Twelve years earlier.

After calling daddy's name for five minutes while I wander through the house I stand in front of the door to his study. I hear sniffling as I lightly knock on the door. I wait patiently until the door opens up and daddy looks down on me with a frown.

"Did I not put you to bed princess... Two hours ago?"

"I couldn't sleep, when I went into your bedroom you weren't there. Why aren't you sleeping, mister?" Daddy scoops me up into his arms and brings me into his study sitting me down with him in his big brown leather chair. I notice he's drinking the brown drink that he usually drinks when he has his friends over to play his card game. Next to his glass filled with ice and the brown drink, there are pictures of mommy. I pick one up and stare at it as he picks up his glass and takes a drink from it while watching me closely.

"She was beautiful, wasn't she? I see a lot of her in you, it's crazy?" Daddy takes another sip from his glass as he picks up his wedding photo.

"Really, what was she like?" I never really talked with him about mommy. Sylvia always tells me stories and he usually leaves the room when the conversation gets brought up.

"Well, she was kind, caring, and the most gorgeous girl in the whole wide world, besides you of course." I chuckle at that statement. He looks off into the distance and continues. "I remember the first time I laid eyes on her.  It was after I found out about my father's other business, he had a business partner that he was very close with, your other late grandfather Tony. Tony invited us to a dinner party where I knew other business associates were going to be. I didn't want to go but my father insisted I go with him so I can meet future business partners. Between you and me I only went for the free steak dinner." He looks down and chuckles and I notice there's red in his eyes. "Once we got there I walked around with my father while he introduced me to everyone, once it was dinner time I ate my steak dinner and expected to leave right after but that was not my father's intentions. He went around chatting. I had a headache and decided to explore the house while no one was looking. As I walked up the stairs I saw pictures on the walls. It was the same girl in all of the pictures. There was one particular picture." He rummaged through the pictures and pulled out a framed picture of mommy when she was younger, maybe around eighteen, it looked like a school picture. "This picture was at the top of the stairs. She was the most gorgeous girl I have ever seen. I hoped she lived there and wasn't off to college or lived on her own. I forgot about exploring the house and my main goal was to find this girl's room. I don't know what was going through my mind, I didn't have a plan I just wanted to find her. I walked down the stretched hallway, all of the doors looked the same, but there was one door I noticed had a gold handle versus the other doors that had a silver handle. I walked to the door and was sure this was her room. on the outside fo the door there was a sign that said :

KEEP OUT

Underneath said Julia. I mouthed the words as I put my ear up to the door listening to any movement inside. After a few seconds, I heard a page flip over indicating she was reading a book, so I knocked on the door. I heard her shut the book and walk over to the door. She opened it up and that's when I saw her in person for the first time, She was even more beautiful in person. She had big green eyes and long, black, thick, and wavy hair.

'The bathroom is down the hall, and there is also one downstairs where the party is.' She said while looking me in my eyes. I probably looked stupid. My mouth was hanging open as I stared at the gorgeous girl in front of me. I didn't know what to say, I wanted to turn around and pretend I was actually looking for the bathroom but I didn't want to take the chance of never seeing her again.

'Umm, sorry. I was just- well to be honest with you, I don't want to be downstairs with a whole bunch of old men. I went to explore the house and saw your picture on the wall, you looked to be around my age and I was wondering if you wanted to maybe hang out or something.' I remember my heart beating out my chest, I thought she was going to slam the door in my face but surprisingly she opened up her door and let me in her room. I talked to her for hours until my father found me and told me it was time to go."

Daddy was staring at the picture as I looked through the other pictures. "What happened after that?"

"Well, luckily for me my father and Grandpa Tony were such good friends I planned a poker night with them. While they played poker Julia and I talked in her room. I asked her on a date and five years later we were married."

He picks up the wedding photo and shows me the bump mommy had.

"That was Carlo. Our plan was to get married then start a family but one month before the wedding we found out mommy was pregnant, we were both so excited to be parents. She always wanted a girl. We were going to stop at Carlo but your mommy wanted a girl so bad we had another."

"Then you had Bruno, what a disappointment," We both laugh as he puts away his bottle and glass and looks for other picture. It was a picture of mommy holding me the day I was born.

"Then we had you. Julia was so excited when she found out you were a girl. She never put you down, she barely let me hold you, but when I did I knew I never wanted to put you down. That was of course before your mommy took you out of my hands," he says chuckling. He stares at the picture some more before sniffling and lifting me up in his arms as he walks out the door. "Alright, young lady I think its time to go to bed."

He lays me down and kisses me on my forehead. He pulls the picture of mommy holding me out of his back pocket and sets it on my nightstand.

"What happened to mommy?" I've never asked before. Daddy got really pale before he exhaled and sat next to me on the ned as he tucked me in.

"She got into a plane accident. The saddest day of my life, but I've come to learn she is always right here," He says while pointing at his heart than mine. "She will always be here." Then he left the room without another word.
