The next morning Emani woke up and thought of what she was gonna wear that day. When she made up her mind she stretched in bed and went to the bathroom to do her hygiene thing. When she went back to her room she turned her TV on and turned to MTV Jams. When she got dressed she decided to wear a Mickey Mouse t-shirt, some skinny jeans, hi-top Nike dunks and a crooks and castles fitted snap back. She looked in the mirror to make sure she looked alright. She turned off her TV and left her room.

She was walking towards the living room when she heard movement. She did not feel like talking to her mother this morning. She knew her mother would bring up crap to talk about. All Emani wanted to do was chill with Shawn and Beyoncé since Kelly was out of town. Now she had to be in the presence of her mother until Shawn came to pick her up.

“Good Morning” her mother said  

“Morning” Emani mumbled.

“So…are you going to talk to me today.” Her mother asked.

“About what?” she asked confused

“About this grudge you’ve had against me since I told you about your brother.” Her mother said

“You didn’t tell me about my brother you let it slip out when you was upset. I’m not a baby anymore y’all can’t keep hiding stuff like it’s not there. This is my life were talking about.” She said.

“We didn’t want to hurt you and I’m not the only person hiding stuff.” Her mother said.

“What the hell are you talking about and I did get hurt.” she said.

“Watch your mouth!” Her mother said.

“You know what, since were talking I mind as well get something’s off my chest.” She said

Shawn and Beyoncé were watching TV in the living room while the boys were sleep.

“Since the boys are still sleep I’m gonna go pick up E.” Shawn said to Beyoncé while there were sitting on the couch watching TV.

“Ok” she responded.

Shawn hoped in the car and went to pick up Emani. With her being in school and working with Kelly and him with Bey and the babies they really hadn’t had time to chill with each other. Shawn figured since Kelly wasn’t in town they could chill and Emani was too happy when he called and told her. Shawn was missing his little sister and he was happy her and Beyoncé clicked as well. Shawn parked in the drive way and went to the front door. He heard some loud yelling and knocked on the door. He knocked for another few minutes and nobody opened the door. He looked under the welcome mat and got the extra key that was there. He opened the door and the yelling got louder. He saw Emani and her mother arguing, he couldn’t tell what was being said he just knew it was loud.

“Whoa! Hey! What happened” Shawn yelled.

They both turn around and looked at Shawn. Her mother spoke first.

“Shawn, you say she’s like your sister. Well take her.” She said to Shawn

“You get the hell out my house. Don’t go in that room and take shit. I bought it so it’s mine. Get Out!” she said to Emani.

“So I tell you about yourself and your lil boyfriend and you get in your fucking feelings.” Emani said

“Hey! Wait a damn minuet. Emani get in the car.” Shawn said.

“What? You just go..” Emani said

“Get in the damn car!” Shawn said.

Emani walked out the house and slammed the door.

“Auntie, what just happened?” Shawn asked.

“That girl has been nothing but disrespectful since I told her about her brother. I will not tolerate that nor does she do what she supposed to do. All she does is work with Kelly and that’s it. I don’t know what she’s been telling y’all but the school’s been calling me and she barely goes there. All she does is dance. I can’t take this anymore. Y’all either get her to change or she can get the hell out.” She said.

“She’s been telling us that she’s doing fine in school” Shawn said.

“Well she probably has, when she goes and according to the school is two or three times a week. Shawn she is going to end up like her brother I just know it.” She said tearing up sitting down on the couch.

“Look let me talk to her and see what’s going on.” Shawn said.

“Well y’all better figure something out because she’s not staying here until she gets her shit together.” She said.

“Ok” Shawn said heading out of the house to his car.

Shawn saw Emani sitting on the porch with her head in her hands. The only time Emani does that is when she guilty about something. Shawn walked passed her down the steps. She picked up her head and saw Shawn walking towards his car.

“Get in the car.” Shawn said

Emani got up and walked towards the passenger door and got in. There was silence in the car for a while.

“So what you been up to?” Shawn asked.

“Nothing” Emani said confused.

“You sure?” Shawn asked as he was driving.

“Yeah” she said.

“How’s school?” he asked as he approached his drive way.

“Good” she said.

“O.k.” Shawn said as he parked.

They walked into the house and saw Beyoncé on the couch watching TV.

“Hey Bey” Emani said about to walk down the hall.

“Hey! Couch, we need to talk” Shawn said to Emani.

“Oh lord.” Beyoncé said as she turned the TV off and Emani sat beside her. “What did you do?”

“I don’t know” Emani said.

“That’s what this conversation is about. It’s what you’re not doing. When the last time you were in school Emani?” Shawn asked as he and Beyoncé looked at her.

“Yesterday” Emani said confused.

“What about before that?’’ he asked.

“uhm, I was sick.’’ She said not looking directly at anyone.

“So you’re gonna keep lying.” Shawn said.

“Wait, what’s going on?” Beyoncé said.

“Well the girl beside you that has told us time and time again that she doing great in school has been lying. She barely goes to school and I want to know what she’s been up to.” Shawn said.

“What you mean you barely have been in school?” Beyoncé asked her.

“I…” She started.

“You already lied to him, don’t lie to me” Beyoncé said.

“I just don’t go.” Emani said looking down.

“Where do you go?” she asked grabbing her chin so Emani was looking directly at her and she raised her eyebrow.

“Before you start, lie again. I dare you” Shawn said.

“Home, chill with…” Emani started.

“If you say CJ, I swear.” Beyoncé said.

“It’s Dre isn’t it?’’ Shawn asked.

Emani looked down.

“Yo, go in the back.” Shawn said to Emani as she got up “and don’t use my TV.”

“So she’s been lying to us for six months.” Beyoncé said

“Yeah, I knew she was seeing her brother I just didn’t know when.” Shawn said shaking his head. “I know she loves her brother but this is one of the reasons I didn’t want her to have this much freedom with her brother. Who knows what she’s doing when she’s with him.”

“Does Kelly know?” Beyoncé asked.

“No, she gonna be beyond pissed and she’s not just over here because she lied. Her mother kicked her out.” Shawn said.

“What!” she said

“Yeah, when I went to pick her up they were arguing and I guess she told her mother about herself and her mother kicked her out and told me how she was really doing in school. Now I don’t really care what they were arguing about I’m just pissed that she lied to me.” Shawn said.

“Well since she’s staying she’s going to school if I have to pick her up and drop her off and the lying is going to stop. I don’t play that” Beyoncé said.

Shawn just looked at her a smiled.

“What?” she asked.

“Thank you for loving Emani the way I do.” He said.

“No problem, she’s growing on me and I know how much she means to you.” She said

Shawn kissed her on top of her head and held her knowing they had to have a talk with Emani soon.
