It was the big day.

Graduation day.

Evelyn drew a line through the date on the calendar and smiled with a bit of irony. She was actually feeling good for someone who is ought to have a panic attack for being valedictorian. She was excited.

"Have you decided which dress you want to wear?" Erika walked in as Evelyn spun around and hoisted herself up on the desk looking at her mom. "I can't. I love them both."

"You can only wear one." Erika smiled walking over to Evelyn. "I'm so proud of you daughter. This is really something your father and I have dreamed of."

"You guys dreamed of your daughter becoming valedictorian or actually graduating?" Evelyn asked with a smirk.

"Oh Evelyn. We've never expected anything more from you but that you do well in school and... just know we're proud of everything you've done."

Evelyn bit her lip lightly. "Does that mean I can fly out of home and do what I want?"

Erika narrowed her eyes and smiled shaking her head. "You remind me of when I was your age, you know." Evelyn smiled and Erika continued. "I wasn't much of an outgoing kind of girl... I was quiet but I dreamed of running away and doing crazy things I just never had the courage to do so since my parents were so overprotective."

"See, I don't want to fight you now mid your excitement to see me graduate but like that's exactly what you've been doing to me, mom. I also have those dreams. I'm not a little girl anymore for you and dad to keep me cooped inside this house. Why can't you give me what you couldn't have?" Evelyn said straightforward getting her mother to slightly tear up. "I know what you and dad fear but I can take care of myself, really."

"It's not that we are afraid to let you go. We just can't bare to see our precious daughter grow up so quickly and maybe have her heart shattered by a man who won't love you like we do."

"Mom... really, don't worry about me." Evelyn said sweetly taking Erika's face in her hands. "I love you and dad despite how strict or overprotective you are but I need you to respect I am my own person and one day or another I will leave you, this house and dad."

Erika's tears flowed now and Evelyn smiled pulling her mother into her arms. "That doesn't mean I will stop loving you guys."

"Dad will want to know when you lost your virginity." Erika laughed and Evelyn pressed her forehead to her mothers smiling. "Dad will have a breakdown." While daughter and mother doubled over in laughter the door opened and Bailee stood in the doorway. "Hi- uhh OH! Is this a wrong time?"

"Not at all, Bailee. My daughter here could use some friendly advice on which dress she looks sexier in."

"MOM!" Evelyn's mouth fell open never hearing her mother refer to her in such a manner. It was funny. Bailee chuckled as Erika left the room with a wink directed towards Evelyn.

"It's our day, Ev!" Bailee squealed running over to Evelyn. "Let's get going!"

"So these are the options." Evelyn showed Bailee her dresses and Bailee stared at them intently and then at Evelyn. "God, they are both gorgeous..."

"I know."

"Hmm... Let's go with the yellow, Summer is right around the corner." Bailee picked up the light yellow dress and smiled over at Evelyn who was smiling back with glee.
