"Will the defendant please stand" the judge ordered. My dad stood up fixed his jacket and took a deep breath before looking at his attorney.

"Mr. Ortiz I reviewed your record and you have quite a lengthy arrest history. It seems as if you were on the straight and narrow up until your most recent arrest which is why you're here now. I listened to the evidence presented by the prosecution and taking everything into consideration I've made my decision."

My dad looked back at me and gave me a small smile. I gulped loudly my hands were sweating like crazy and my heart was racing a million miles a second it felt like my heart was going to burst through my chest. I gave my dad a small smile back this could go one of two ways he would be released to come back home with me right here and now or he was going to be doing prison time.

"With all things considered I find you guilty on all charges presented and will sentence you to five years in Clark County Detention Center."

This is why I hated the law, this judge just gave out five years like it was nothing. My heart shattered when my dad looked back at me he mouthed an "I'm so sorry" to me before he was cuffed and taken away.

My dad's friend and fellow Serpent Montana hugged me tightly and kissed the top of my head "I know this sucks but you need to be strong for him right now baby girl." We walked out of the courthouse and I was numb.

He stopped off at In-N-Out and then we went back to the house we had been living in for the last three years. Montana was my dad's second-best friend and our roommate since we moved to Vegas. We ate quietly I spent the rest of the night crying my dad is one of my best friend's, even though my mom was in my life she wasn't actively involved in my everyday life like my dad was.

We did everything together we worked on cars together, watched football anytime it was on, my dad and I tattooed our fellow Serpents together. And many times we would stay up super late on the weekends with snacks and sat at the kitchen table drawing together. We had our inside jokes and our holiday traditions. I still couldn't believe this was happening to me especially right before my senior year of high school.

My dad won't be here when I turn eighteen in just a few months, he won't be here when I graduate, we won't have our scary movie marathon for Halloween or spend all day watching football on Thanksgiving. I won't be able to talk to him whenever I feel like it or see him whenever I can. This shit isn't fair.

Three days later I was finally able to visit him once he was transferred to the place he will spend the next five years.

I hated the entire process of being able to go into a jail especially since I was packing a lot extra I always felt violated as fuck once the process was done. But it meant I got to see my dad so I didn't really care.
