Here we go. Saturday night in London going to a pub. I should be excited, hell if I was any other twenty three year old girl I would be bouncing off the walls right now. I mean cute and slightly buzzed British guys, what more could a girl want? But I'm not any other girl, I'm me, and the me that I am is terrified of making a fool of herself.
I follow closely behind Piper and Chloe as we enter the crowded pub I am starting to regret agreeing to join them. Not that Piper gave me much of a choice. She called me earlier today and said I had to go with her because if she had to deal with Chloe and Liam sucking face alone she might actually die. Yes, she is very dramatic but I felt for the poor girl. No one likes to be the third wheel. So here I am. Sucking it up for her and shuffling through the crowded pub that is full of already intoxicated university students. Maybe I need a drink myself to calm down a little.
It is already rather cold here in London, and my fingers feel a bit numb from the ten minute walk from my apartment to get to the pub. I have always loved September, all the fall colors make for the perfect picture backdrop. It's even more beautiful here than New York in the fall so despite the cold I enjoyed the peaceful walk here.
"I'm going to find Liam!" I'm yanked from my thoughts as Chloe half yells at us over the loud conversations when we reach the bar.
Piper rolls her eyes in response and I hold in my laughter only letting a small giggle leave my lips. We both yell a sarcastic bye as we watch Chloe disappear into the crowd without looking back at us. It smells like cigarettes in here big time. I forgot how many people in England smoked, I don't think I have come across anyone who doesn't do it at least socially. I don't mind smoking, I just hate the smell.
"God, she's obsessed," Piper laughs as she looks towards the bartender waiting for him to make his way to us. We squeeze in between a group of girls chatting loudly with each other and a guy who looks way too old to be hanging out in a pub as we lean against the bar top.
"She's in love," I say dramatically drawing out the word and giggle as Piper scrunches up her face and rolls her eyes yet again. I'm feeling a little more relaxed now just chatting with Piper.
"Whatever. It's sickening," she says waving at the bartender who looks to be in his forties and currently hating his life, trying to get his attention as we continue our banter.
"Oh come on! You cannot tell me you don't want to have that." I tease poking her and finally getting her full attention. "To have someone you enjoy being with so much you never get tired of seeing them? Everyone wants that." I state my voice turning a little more serious than I meant as my own words hit me. Piper stares at me and silence falls between us for a short second as the loud commotion of the pub continues around us.
I haven't had a guy in my life in god knows how long, and I would never admit it, but aren't we are all searching for a person that understands us in a way others don't? Somebody who just sees us?
"Anyway there's a cute blonde girl making eyes at you as we speak," I finally add with a laugh breaking the weird moment I caused.
Pipers eyes grow twice their normal size at my words and a look of panic takes over her face, and I try not to laugh at her.
"No there is not," she says fear covering her face as she stares at me not daring to move a muscle.
"There so is," I giggle at her suddenly dramatic reaction, I mean Piper is the most confident person I think I have ever met but she looks terrified right now.
"Where?" Pulling her bottom lip between her teeth nervously as she starts to casually glance around the crowded pub.
I nod in the direction of the blonde who has been staring at her since we got to the bar.
