Albums are something I used to be really against. I would think, Who wants to listen to the same person singing all the way through. The only CDs I would ever buy were NOW That's what I Call Music compilations.
Ever since getting really into music, I know that is definitely not true. Albums are a work of art, and essential to an artists success. I haven't bought a compilation CD in 2 years. The only compilation I now listen to is David Bowies Legacy, which I got as a Christmas present this year for my record player, and Queens Greatest Hits collections, but as for one with multiple artists, those are a thing of my past.
The first album I ever bought was Coldplays A Head Full of Dreams, in November 2017 from my favourite Tesco. That album is essentially what sparked my love for music altogether. Although not my favourite album from the band (still an amazing record in my opinion, you cant tell me Amazing Day, Everglow and Adventure Of a Lifetime arent some of the best songs in their discography), it got me hooked on the idea of listening to an album all the way through without skipping anything and being taken to a different place. I did that with my compilation CDs, but theres nothing like a proper album that an artist put sweat, blood and tears into creating.
I own all the Coldplay albums on CD (with the exception of Everyday Life, which I chose to get on vinyl), which includes The Butterfly Package and the Kaleidoscope EP, Ed Sheerans Divide, HAIM's Something To Tell You, all 3 The 1975 albums, Queens Platinum Collection with Greatest Hits I, II and III, Wallows' Nothing Happens, Panic! At The Disco's Pray For The Wicked, both Picture This albums, Whitney Houstons The Ultimate Collection, Athlete's Tourist, 5 Seconds of Summer's Youngblood and Will Smith's Big Willy Style. Those are the albums on CD I own. In total, I have 25 albums on CD from the past 2 years I've been purchasing them. That is crazy for me to think about.
I dont have as many vinyl records, as I just got into it recently. Vinyl is definitely my favourite way of listening to music. I love everything about it. The albums I own so far are Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of The Moon, Coldplays Everyday Life, David Bowies Legacy, The 1975s I like it when you sleep, for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it and A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships, Queens A Night at The Opera and Billie Eilish's WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?. I have 7 vinyl records. That is quite impressive as I'm only getting into it.
I've also streamed many more albums, and I always listen to them through either really good headphones, or connected to my guitar amp by an aux lead or connecting my phone to the Bluetooth on my record player. Streaming is my most frequently used way of listening to music. I'm streaming music through Spotify right now as I write this. I can't possibly name all the albums I've streamed, but I can say the last one I listened to, which was Selena Gomez's Rare, which is already on my list of albums from 2020.
Albums are something that I find very important in my life, no matter the format. On average, I probably listen to 1 album every day and usually more on the weekend. I've fallen in love with some artists through their albums. Examples of that happening would be The 1975, Coldplay, Eminem, Clairo, Wallows, Athlete, Billie Eilish and Pink Floyd. I never judge an artist by their singles. An artist can have average singles on an unreal album. Most albums I've listened to surpass the singles they're linked to. The singles might still be amazing, but the album is on another level. I'm not a huge rap fan, but I became really intrigued by Eminem after listening to The Marshall Mathers LP, and hes now one of my favourite artists. Most of my favourite songs from my favourite artists are songs that weren't released as singles. I only found them from the album.
I recommend all the artists and albums I've listed above. If anyone would like to see my top 10 albums of all time, I'll do that. I'm listening to so much music lately that I'm finding it difficult to narrow down songs. And if anyone would like this book to turn into an album and songs book, I'll do that by all means.
I hope you have learned something new about my love for music and discovered some new artist you might be obsessed with in a few days. At the end of the day, my objective is to express my love for the most important thing in my life and draw attention to some of my favourite artists.
