Our Lives Have Changed

Chapter One

-Jakes P.O.V-

Heartbreak. It's the worse type of pain ever. No matter how hard you try to get rid of it, it always finds a way back to you. When your heartbroken you feel lifeless, as if the world is moving and your just lying there in the grass wanting to move but you can't because you're in too much pain.

People say it's easier to leave a broken heart alone then try to piece it together and get hurt. That's what I've been trying to do I've been trying to fix it and each time I do it breaks even more. It's been a week since the incident and I still replay her last words in my head "I guess this is the ending of forever" more tears fell from my face "forever" that's how long we were supposed to be together. Two years with her just blew away, but we're adults now she's twenty and I just turned twenty-one a few weeks back. We've been over for a week and I can't get her out of my head every time I try to forget about her I can't everything has changed since the break up.

Maria is oblivious to what is going around her but I expect that. Payton made it very clear that she does not want Maria to know that we aren't together and I respect that, so when I go to drop Maria off at Payton's we act like we're together but once Maria is out of the room she becomes very distant. I haven't been with any girls while on this "break" because there isn't any girl in the world that will compare to my one and only girl.

I'm in the music room sitting at the piano trying to come up with songs but I can't the only thing on my mind is her and how much I fucked up "we would still be together if it wasn't for my dumb mistake" I exhaled "her trust with me is gone, every ounce of security and self esteem she had deteriorated and all because of me" I felt a tear escape my eye. Someone knocked on the door,

"It's open" I managed to say

Maria opened the door,

"Daddy" she faintly said

I wiped away the tears and looked at her she reminded me so much of Payton just by the way she acts,

"Yes princess?"

"Can I have some spaghetti o's?"

I smiled at her "yeah come on"

I got off from the bench and went to the kitchen with her following behind. I went into the pantry and found the can I opened it and put it into a pot on the stove. I heard someone knock on the door,

"I got it!" Maria chimed jumping off the stool

"Maria!" I yelled running after her

She was about to open the door until I picked her up,

"You can't be opening the door unless I say so you don't know who is on the other side"

She nodded "ok"

I sat her down "go into the living room and watch tv"

She ran into the living while I opened the door to see Ryan,

"Hey man what's up?"

"Not much"

He walked into the house and followed me into the kitchen,

"I heard about you and-"

I cleared my throat and told him to go out on the terrace. I turned the stove on low and followed him,

"So you told her huh?" he said once I shut the sliding glass door

"I had to" I ran my hand through my hair "she sorta found out"

"You shouldn't have cheated on her"

"I know"

"Do you really?"

"What do you mean?" I sternly asked

"I mean if you knew how special she is and that you loved her you wouldn't have cheated on her" he said stating the obvious "Payton is a beautiful, smart, talented, wonderful, cute-"

"Dude?!" I yelled "why in the hell are you talking about my girlfriend like that?"

"She's not your girlfriend Jake! You two broke up she's done with you!"

"No she isn't" I said as hot tears escaped my eyes

"Look" he exhaled "all I'm saying is that since you didn't treat her right someone else is going to and she's going to be with that someone"

"I'm not letting anyone take her"

"Good luck with that"

He's really starting to irritate me,

"And what's that supposed to mean?" I questioned

"Payton isn't unattractive"

"I know that"

"And so does the rest of the world someone will take her"

"She wouldn't leave me" I stated

"Oh really if she wouldn't leave you then why are you here and she's at home?"

"We're on a break!"

The door opened its Maria she looked at Ryan then me,

"It's done"

"Alright I'll be there in a minute"

She shut the door. I heard Ryan's phone go off he looked at it and smiled,

"Who are you messaging?"

"Payton"

Once he said her name I wanted to beat the living shit out of him "how dare he talk to my girlfriend" I relaxed,

"How long have y'all been talking?"

"A few days she's just looking for comfort" he looked at me "or maybe she's moved on to the Ryan express"

I swear if I didn't have my daughter in the house I would kill him,

"What does she want?"

"What does it matter to you? You two are over"

"What did she say?" I clenched my fist

"Just that she wants me to come over"

"She's heartbroken and wants you to come over?"

"Yeah"

"I swear to god Ryan if you"

"Relax" he interrupted "if I wanted to do anything with her I would've when she first messaged me"

"When was that?"

"when you two broke up"

I just glared at him and he smiled,

"Don't you have a daughter to take care of"

I walked over to him and grabbed him by his shirt "If you hurt her"

"Why would I do that? You already did" he smirked

"Dad!" Maria yelled from inside "I'm hungry!"

I let go of Ryan and went inside.
