It is Monday which means, first day of class. I walk into the kitchen to eat breakfast, it is only 9:30 a.m. and I don't start till eleven, so I take my time. I prepare a bowl of cereal and walk into the living room where I left my laptop the night before. When I walk to the couch, I'm not surprised to find a post-it on my laptop. Grey knows that the first thing I do in the morning is turn on the device to watch some videos on YouTube and to catch up on the news. I pick up the note she left.
'Good luck today, I started at 8 you were still asleep. See you tonight.
Kisses.
And, go talk to Leo!'
She won't let that go anytime soon. Grey starts her second year too, she studies design, but she really wants to do something with nature and outdoor architecture. Next year when she will be done with this, she will look for a study where she can combine those two things.
At 10 o'clock I decide to go take shower knowing it will take me about ten minutes to get to my first class. I quickly take a shower and blow-dry my hair. I have the kind of hair that you have to blow-dry and put into shape every morning otherwise it just looks like a curtain. I put some makeup and get dressed. I decided to go for a jean skirt with a white shirt and my black high all-stars. I finish a few minutes early, but I decide to leave not wanting to be late on my first day.
This year starts with a class film history from M. Anderson. I love that teacher he gives all classes that are screen related, from film history to video editing. I do an entertainment study. Which just consists of learning everything about the history, makings, and managing of the movie, tv, music, artist and event industry. My dream is to work for a tv channel or make one of the books I read into a movie.
When I arrive at the building, I still have five minutes left so I decide to go in to get a good spot. This class is only given in small groups of twenty to thirty students because every student is supposed to give a lot of input and to freely debate about certain topics. I decide to text Grey to wish her good luck for her first day. Hers are somehow always tougher than mine. Right when I want to enter the room, I bump into someone who wants to go through the door at the same time. My phone almost falls out of my hands, but someone catches it before it hits the ground.
"Thanks," I say gratefully "I'm sorry I can be so clumsy sometimes" I smile at the person who caught my phone.
"No worries," he says.
"Sam, right?" I ask thinking that's his name, I saw him in a few of my classes last year. Everybody knows him. I never really talked to him; he seems nice though. We don't really live in the same social circle.
I'm pretty sure he knows my name too. "Yes, Rosa, right?" His eyes light up when he says it which confirms my earlier assumption. I decide to play along.
"Rosie, actually" I smile at him.
"I should have known that," he says winking at me.
I smile at him "You did" I walk past him and take a seat on the second row.
Two hours later class is over, we discussed the choices directors made to send a message through their movies during the cold war. It was quite interesting we also discussed some Charlie Chaplin movies, I already studied them back in France, so it was nice talking about them in a different context.
It was time for lunch and I usually meet up with grey and Leo but I'm not sure how things are going to unfold today. I arrive at our usual picknick spot in the campus garden. Grey chose this spot last year; she loves being here she knows all about the flowers and she can talk about it for hours. I see her sitting under a tree on her jacket reading the book she talked about last night. I go to sit down next to her.
