It's the end of September. The first month of school is already behind us. And even if I won't admit it, it went well. We won most of our basketball games and my education has gone up ever since I spend time with Rosie, Grey, and Leo.
It is Monday night and I am on my way back from basketball practice. Leo sent me a text with groceries I have to go get and the takeout I have to pick up for tonight. It is more than enough for the two of us, so I guess Rosie and Grey are staying over for dinner. Don't ask me why they decide to come to have dinner at our place while they have their own whole ass apartment. Not that I mind, I got to know the girls a bit more. They are nice you can have a good laugh with them. I don't usually surround myself with this kind of people. It is a nice and welcome change.
Being in a room with Leo helps me see a bit clearer sometimes. We are different but lately, I notice that we start rubbing off on each other. He became a bit looser. I mean he even got into a relationship with Rosie after being in love with her for a whole year. How he did it wasn't smooth, but he will learn. I hope. I, on the other hand, calmed down a bit. At least I like to think I did. I stay in more and I brought home, fewer girls. Exactly two girls since the end of august including Krystal. Yes, I remember her name, Rosie lectured me about it when she found out I didn't remember her name.
Talking about Rosie, I think out of the three friends I get along with her the best. We joke around a lot. She has been around a lot since she started dating Leo. I am not going to deny that I find myself staring at her sometimes and that I had a few dreams about her. But you know Sam Brens will be Sam Brens.
I had some good talks with Leo too. I learned a bit more about where he grew up, his parents and a few of his friends. I understand him and his lifestyle better and I see what is appealing about it. Maybe that is the reason why I stay in more. Sometimes it is nicer to just stay in and talk to Leo then to go out and get drunk with the boys of the basketball team. With him, I don't have to pretend it is refreshing.
I slowly walk through the supermarket searching for the ingredients. I hate being here with everything I have. I never come here Leo usually do this but apparently, he had a busy weekend, so he didn't have time. He spends most of his weekends in Rosie's apartment. Sounds romantic I know, but I highly doubt they do more than study or talk. I tried to push him, but I didn't succeed. At least I think I didn't. If I would be honest with myself, I might realize that deep down I've been hoping that I didn't succeed in pushing him. But I'm not, honest with myself, so my conscience clear.
"Hey, Sam!" I hear a high-pitched voice say behind me.
When I turn around, I see a girl who hurries over to me "Iris" I say a bit flatly hoping she gets the hint that I don't want to see her. I used to see her at parties. She was my backup hook-up. I know how that sounds but it is not that bad. At the beginning of last year, we meet, and we slept together. After that, we made a deal that if one us didn't have anyone at the end of the traditional Friday night parties, we would just go to one another and hook-up. It never happened again because I always found an excuse not to. I never had feelings for her but I'm not sure about her. Sometimes she gets a bit too clingy.
"Haven't seen you in while?" she says putting her hand with her red painted long nails on my chest.
"Yeah, I haven't been to a lot of parties lately" I explain myself getting away from her, I continue shopping.
She doesn't get the hint and follows me "I noticed" she stands in front of me and she pushes her chest in my face when I get down to pick up some fruit. I quickly get up and turn my eyes away from her. Now is not the time to do this. Three months ago I probably would have played this game but right now I just want her to go away. "What I also noticed is that you have been hanging out with your nerdy roommate and his friends," she says with a flirty voice. I take a better look at her. She looks so fake, I never noticed before. Her fake blond hair and layers of makeup make her look cheap and her short and tight clothes don't flatter her body one bit.
