I've been home for over a week now. I left Philadelphia airport on Wednesday around 11 a.m. with the time difference I ended up arriving very early Thursday morning at Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris. My mom came to pick me up because it was a two-hour drive from the capital city to the small town, I grew up in. We arrived at the house around 5:30 a.m., after saying hi to my dad I directly went to bed because I found myself unable to sleep during the flight.
Right now, I'm driving back from my friends Lea's house. We met up because we didn't see each other since the summer holidays. She went through quite a lot these last months. Her mom died and she lost the only grandma she still had. The contact with her dad isn't great. She kind of found herself alone with her brother. Because I'm far away I can't really do anything from a distance, so now I'm home I try to do whatever I can to help.
She lives fifty minutes away, but I don't mind the drive. It was nice driving the country roads again and enjoy the French winter landscape from the warm cocoon that is my car. I missed this. The endless views and forests.
I park my car in the driveway getting out the groceries I went to get for my mom. She is already standing in the doorway to let me in. She has tea and cookies standing in the living room. I spend my time running around to see everybody before Christmas begins so I didn't really have the opportunity to spend time with her. It is Sunday the 24th of September and I promised my mom that we would spend the afternoon watching movies and cooking a quality dinner for tonight.
We settle down on the couch to drink our tea and watch Grease. At the end of one of the songs, my mom pauses Netflix and turns to me on the couch "So how is Grey?".
"Good! Really well actually" I stand up to go to the kitchen to refill my mug.
"Her and Kay still going strong," my mom asks me raising her voice so I could still hear her in the kitchen.
"Yes, so far so good"
"That doesn't sound very positive"
"No, they're fine, I just felt like lately, they fight more than they used to. Maybe distance is getting to them a bit". More and more Grey is coming to me with stories about her and kay fighting. I hope this holiday will allow them to calm down the tensions.
"That can indeed become a struggle point" I sit back down on the couch next to my mom "Did you talk to Leo since everything happened?"
"Not really we talk when we are in a group but when we cross each other in the hallways we just send each other a quick smile".
She nods "And Sam?".
"He went to see Grey".
"He did" surprise marking her features when she looks at me over the huge mug, I gave her as an early Christmas gift.
"Trust me I was just as surprised as you are. Grey called me to say that he came by and that if he gets in contact with me, I should not avoid him but face the conversation he wants to start". I wasn't even three steps out of the plane when Grey called me to inform me that Sam came by to see her, well me but found her. She didn't want to tell me what they talked about, but she told me that I should hear him out and look at the situation from his side.
"So, did he? Get in contact?"
I take a big sip of my tea almost burning my mouth "Yes he texted me, we are texting since Wednesday evening, nothing serious though just about casual things, what we do during the day and we debate a bit about movies and books".
My mom puts down her mug "Did he aboard the situation yet".
"He didn't. It scares me a bit that at some point he is going to. But at the same time, I really want to have a serious conversation with him about it. Because things are just being weird and ignored right now".
