1.11| The Apathetic Young Master Li

"Bai Ning, it's your crush, CEO Li Mu from the Li Enterprise!" A woman beside her whispered to her ears.

Bai Ning's calm face brightened slightly at her friend's remark. Her eyes darted towards the room's entrance where a 1.9 meter man just walked in. His handsome visage was exposed for all guests to see. His neat and crisp black tailcoat and vest intensified the regal imposing aura that he exuded, enchanting most of the youthful woman in the room into little girls who just reached their puberty.

Even Bai Ning herself was no exception as she greedily raked her eyes over the man's body.

The woman viciously watched the unmarried ladies across the room that looked at Li Mu with hungry eyes, but she refrained herself from lashing out at them and hiding the man away from the public's sight. She remembered the task that Duan Ping gave her, and she thought, soon after she did her job, the man that everyone coveted will be hers and they will be the most perfect couple in the history!

Bai Ning's black eyes flashed a dangerous glint as they longingly expressed the emotions for the man deep within.

I must be patient...

Not long after Li Mu's eye-catching entrance, Duan Ping and her husband, Li Tao who was driving the wheelchair entered the room. The 70 years old man was still full of vigor despite the fact that he had been staying in the hospital; he showed no signs of a sick patient but instead a full recovery. His steps were still full of power and sturdy and his hands which grasped the wheelchair handle was firm. On the other hand Duan Ping who was seated on the wheelchair used such a thick make-up to hide her abnormally pale complexion. Thankfully, she wore a glamorous dress that took everyone's attention away from her unpresentable state.

A smile was hanging on Lin Tao's lips as he looked on his wife with adoration deep in his eyes, showing everyone how their relationship was still going strong. As if playing along, a tint of blush spread across Duan Ping's cheeks.

Other couples might be fooled by the farce as they stare in envy at the old couple, only Li Mu who was standing on the side of the room knew that it was actually his parents' trick to keep their clean reputation intact.

Li Mu watched on with a calm indifferent gaze, not approaching them as if they weren't blood-related.

The business partners that surrounded Li Mu kept their mouth shut, not commenting at the man's dull reaction to his own parents. Their ears however betrayed their thoughts as they tried to concentrate on the whispers of the people around them, trying to pick up a certain gossip material to talk about after the party ended.

A man similar to Li Mu's age approached him from afar. He was dressed in navy blue suit which gave a clean and crisp atmosphere to those who saw him. Different from Li Mu's masculine features and his strong aura that puts others away, the man's aura gave off an elegance and charm that attracted the unmarried ladies to reach out to him first. A waft smell of medicinal herbs entered Li Mu's nose as the man came nearer.

"Wu Ming." Li Mu greeted him first.

"Li Mu, it's been a while." The man, named Wu Ming, replied back to him. "It's unusual that you come today. What happened?"

"Business matters."

"Ah.. as always." Wu Ming chuckled, not in the least surprised. He continued, "I've heard about your engagement to the Bai's eldest daughter."

Li Mu's expression turned colder.

Wu Ming continued, trying to let his friend spill the beans, "..and it's even rarer for you to leave the rumours alone."

Li Mu swirled the champagne in his hand, his eyes narrowing, "I did not agree to it. It was a one-sided decision made by that shrewd woman."

Wu Ming knew that the shrewd woman Li Mu talked about was his own mother.

"Well, it is time for you to get married." Wu Ming raised his eyebrow, "Since you don't even like anyone, does it matter if you married Bai Ning or not? Even if you remove this Bai Ning, your mother will bring you a second Bai Ning and then the third one."

Li Mu looked calmly at him, "That woman that you deemed as pure and innocent is not as easy as she looks."

Wu Ming sighed. "I know..., but I really can't imagine you falling for someone, though. Sometimes I even thought that you will live and die alone through old age."

Li Mu stayed silent.

He quickly diverted the conversation from the unpleasant topic, "I heard your parents arranged a marriage partner for you."

"En. Since I'm reaching 40 next year, my parents are rushing to marry me off. They're afraid that I'll become like you." Wu Ming laughed heartily.

"...but, I have someone already. I'll introduce you to her next time."

Li Mu simply said, "Sure."

As the conversation ended, they both watched the other guests around the room. The guests' loud chatter and their boisterous laugh made the room incredibly lively.

A sound then interrupted their thoughts, "Meow?"

Bewildered, Wu Ming looked around, "Hm? I seemed to hear a cat sound?"

"Meow~" A small grey kitten popped its head out from Li Mu's vest. Its captivating blue eyes blinked adorably at Wu Ming.

Wu Ming was immediately startled.

Frightened out of his wits, the man exclaimed. "Brother, how did that thing get into your clothes?"

Wu Ming denied the possibility that Li Mu placed the kitten himself inside there. But the answer shocked him again.

"Picked it up a few months ago. He's cute, isn't he?"

Because the area where they're talking was isolated away from the others, Li Mu willingly pulled out the little guy from his vest and hold it against his chest. The small feline nuzzled its head against the man's neck, it purred happily when the man rubbed its back in response.

"You.. what the hell happened to you in these few months, brother?" The young doctor shockingly saw his childhood friend turning gentle and loving towards the kitten. He dazedly watched the grey kitten licking his friend's lips and Li Mu, which he thought to hate skin contact, responded early by kissing the kitten back on its nose. Wu Ming was at a loss for words.

Why did he feel that he was being fed dog food?!

"I will actually thought that you are in love if what you're holding is a woman." Wu Ming carelessly blurted out his thoughts.

Li Mu's smile froze.

His hand which were rubbing the kitten's back paused. Unconsciously his heart gave a violent lurch at the unexpected statement.

Li Mu's black eyes turned a shade darker as he looked down on the small feline in his arms.

In the instant, the atmosphere turned tense.

"Wait... are you actually...", Wu Ming showed an incredulous expression as he watched his friend not responding to his statement.

A myriad of emotions swirled inside the Li Mu's black pupils. With a dark gaze and a voice deeper than usual, he whispered.

"You must be... wrong."

I've got 2 submissions on Friday and I've also had the worst period cramps few days ago. I actually considered whether I should post anything for this week as I wasn't feeling well. Thankfully I'm okay now ( ' ▽ ' )
