'Hello'
A single word is all it takes
'What is your name?'
A single question can make one stay
'What are your favorite things?'
Simple questions can lead to friends
I know
I know it
One question
One question to the new kid
One question to the silent kid
One question to that one kid sitting in the back there by themself
'Well maybe someone else will go'
'They probably have friends'
'I'm afraid to speak to new people'
'They won't even respond'
All these doubts swirl
Before you go say that one word
I know it
Cuz I've thought it
But I needed to go
I needed to say
That one word 'Hello'
And so I did
I went and I talked
To each new kid
To each silent kid
Even to that one kid sitting in the back there by themself
One by one
I went and I talked
They didn't all respond
And some took time
But I got those nods
Or even a 'hello'
This one word
This one question
These simple askings
They help
I know it
I do
For I was that new kid
I was that silent kid
I was that one kid sitting in the back there by themself
And if one
Any one kid who cared
Had come and said 'hello'
I know it would've helped
But no one sincere did
So now I go
And I say to you
Go
Say that one word
That one question
Have that one conversation
Because it will help
I know it
And they need it
