Here’s an improved version of the chapter:

---

They moved toward the entrance as quietly and quickly as possible. Stacy had made sure to park the Jeep far enough away so that her mom wouldn’t be caught off guard by anything—or anyone—leaving the store. She gripped her machete tightly, already dreading what she knew they’d find inside, though a small part of her still clung to hope that she was wrong.

As they approached, the automatic doors slid open with a mechanical hiss, revealing the dimly lit interior of BulkMart. The stench of decay hit her immediately, and she gagged. Then, almost simultaneously, more than twenty pairs of lifeless eyes swiveled to meet hers. The zombies stared at them for a split second before charging in unison, their growls rising to a chilling crescendo.

Stacy didn’t hesitate. She raised her machete high and lunged at the closest zombie, slicing clean through its skull. The body crumpled to the floor as she stepped back, narrowly avoiding a clawed hand reaching for her hair. With a sharp kick to the stomach, she sent the creature sprawling back into the frenzied horde. Two more zombies flanked her on either side, closing in fast. Stacy swung her machete with precision, decapitating the one on her right. Without pausing, she slashed out at the one on her left, the blade embedding itself deep in its shoulder. The zombie staggered but didn’t retreat. She took a moment to line up her next strike and cleaved its face in half, the body dropping lifelessly at her feet.

Before she could catch her breath, another zombie slammed into her, knocking her to the ground. The impact sent her machete skittering across the floor, and the zombie landed heavily on top of her. Its fetid breath was hot on her face as it snapped its jaws inches from her throat. Stacy struggled, her hands slipping as she tried to push the thing off her, but it was too heavy, its slick, blood-soaked skin making it impossible to get a grip.

The other zombies, sensing easy prey, began to move faster, their ravenous eyes fixed on her. Panic surged through Stacy as she tried to brace herself for the inevitable. But then, just as suddenly, blood splattered across her face as the zombie was jerked sideways, a knife buried in its temple. The creature convulsed once before going still.

Stacy shoved the corpse off her and scrambled to her feet, wiping the blood from her eyes. She expected to see Mr. Wilson standing over her, but instead, she was met with a face she didn’t recognize. A tall, muscular man, no older than 27, stood before her, shirtless and smirking as her eyes inadvertently lingered on his impressive physique. He had a foot on her in height, with sleepy hazel eyes, full lips, and tousled dirty blonde hair just long enough to run your fingers through. His broad shoulders and defined muscles suggested he was someone used to heavy lifting.

Stacy snapped out of her daze as he moved past her, casually driving his knife into the forehead of an approaching zombie. With a nod of thanks she sprang back into action, slicing through the remaining undead alongside her unexpected ally. They moved with lethal efficiency, cutting down the zombies one by one until the store entrance was finally cleared of the undead.

As Stacy wiped her machete on the shirt of a fallen zombie, she turned to her mysterious savior. “Thanks,” she began, still catching her breath. “You really saved my life"
