Before we started to walk to the pier I put my bag in my car so I didn't have to carry it. We walk around the corner to where the pier is and we each got a lemonade and took a seat on the bench. "Ok Emma can you tell what's going on now?"  I let out a sigh. "The truth is I don't like to write about myself. I guess it's because I would really have to look at who I am and I'm not sure I know who that is or if I want to know".  "Can you give a little more detail than that?"   "In my classes I just try get by. I'm not the smartest or the most athletic. I just try to do a good job so I can graduate".  "Come on Emma there has to be more to it than that".   "Damn it. What do you want from me".   "Be honest with me".   "Fine. I don't want to put myself down on paper because if it was to fall into the wrong hands do you know what would happen to my life not only on campus but in the outside world. It's not fun Mills trust me. I was 13 the first time I got beat up for being born the way I was. Puberty is supposed to strange I understand that but try it looking like a girl but having penis. I'm 21 years old Miss Mills and it doesn't get easier. Some drunk at a bar hears I'm different and he wants to start some shit. Relationships suck just as much. There are not a lot of people that can be understanding. So is that enough?  Can that just be my assignment. I told you I just didn't write it down. It's the same thing".  I finish the last of my lemonade, I get up and throw my cup away. I don't go back to sit down I just look out at the water. She comes and stands next to me. "Thank you for all that Emma. I respect your decision to not want to write the paper".   "Thank you".  "Can I ask you a question?"   "Your all full of questions today. Wow".  "Well I am a teacher. My question is if you don't like telling people about yourself why did you tell me when you first started taking my classes?"   "I don't really know. It's just a vibe I guess that I got from you. I didn't think you would run up and down the halls yelling out Emma Swan has a dick".  I laughed a little making her laugh. We start walking back towards Granny's. When we get there I say how hungry I am and ask her if she wants to sit and get something to eat. "I don't think that would be a good idea".  "Come on it's just food".  "I know but I'm still your teacher".  "Is there a rule that says teachers can't ever eat with students?"  "Well no".  "Come on then it's just Granny's. It's not like it's a date or anything".  "Fine you win. Your lucky I'm hungry".  We walk in and have a seat in a booth. Ruby comes over. "Hey Miss Mills can I get you anything?"  "Yes. I'd like a chicken Cesar wrap with onion rings and an iced tea please".  "Sure and for you Ems, you want your usual?"  "Yes please with a ginger ale".   "Ok coming right up".  "You come here so often that you have a usual?"  "Well yes and Ruby is also my cousin".  "That's nice. You two seem close".  "She's pretty much my only friend here. I didn't really know her when I was growing up but when my family moved back here we just became best friends".   "Where did you live before?"  "Well my parents were born here. When my mom was pregnant they moved to Boston for my dads job. When things got difficult for me at school, we came back here when I was 14".  Just then Ruby came walking over with our drinks and food. "Here you are ladies. If you need anything just yell".  We both said thank you and started to eat. "Do you mind if I ask what you meant by things got difficult for you?"   "Someone found out about me and it spread around the school like wildfire. I was getting harassed not only at school but just about anywhere I went. When I started to get death threats my parents couldn't take it anymore and we packed up and moved back here".   "Emma that's awful. I'm so sorry all that happened".   I shrug. "Yeah well everyone has their battle scars, it's just a matter of how you let them affect your life. You can either let them drag you down or you can learn from them and become stronger".  "Wow. The way you look at things are just amazing Emma. Even after everything you've been through. You already have years of wisdom in your young life".  Her words make me laugh a little. "What is so funny Miss Swan?"   "It's nothing really it's just that you said young life. You make yourself sound years older than me. My guess is that you can't be more than like 3 or 4 years older".  "Well thank you but I'm a few years older than you think".  "Ok come on tell me. I basically told you everything about myself the least you can do is tell me how older you are".  She has a little smile on her face as she thinks about it. "Ok fine Miss Swan. I'm 27".   "Oh wow I was wrong. You are way older than me. What's your secret to looking so young?"   "Haha. You are very funny Emma".  "Gee sarcastic much?"   We both laugh and Ruby walks over. "You two seem to be having a good time. Can I get you anything else?"   "Just the Check please Ruby. I need to get home to start grading some papers". Miss Mills says as she looks at me and I just smile and shake my head.  "I'm all set too Rubes. Thanks".  I hand her my credit card and she walks away. "Miss Swan what are you doing?"   "What I don't have any cash on me. It's just easier for Ruby".  She comes back and I sign the slip and write in a tip.  I look over at Miss Mills and she's giving me the evil eye. "Thank you for dinner Emma. I'll see you tomorrow in class?"  I stand when she does.  "Yes ma'am. Bright and early".   We both say bye and I watch her walk out. She's so damn sexy. "Hey Ems what's going on with you and Miss Mills?"  "What? What are you talking about? I just had a difficult time with the writing assignment we had this afternoon and she wanted to talk to me about".  "Sure Em. I know how much you want her".   "Oh Stop she's our teacher. I doubt she's willing to risk her job for someone like me".   "You need to start giving yourself more credit Emma. If you don't believe your worth it no else will either".  She gives me hug. "Love you Ems. I gotta get back to work before Granny freaks out. See you on the morning".  She runs off into the kitchen and I leave and go back home.
