A Night We'll Never Remember

Chapter 22

"Hello Eugenia?"   "Yes that's me. Who's calling?"   "It's Regina Mills".  "Oh good morning Regina. How are you feeling".  "I'm feeling great. I'm actually calling about Emma".   "Is she ok?"    "Well, yes and no. I'm going to be driving Emma over for her shift soon. I just want to let you know she's pretty much had no sleep last night. Her parents have recently separated and it's hard on her right now. So I'm just asking if you can go easy on her today, and if there is anything she can take home to work on I'll do my best to help her with it".   "I completely understand. I've been talking with her mother so I know what's going on".  "Well Emma some what blames herself for what her parents are going through".  "Ok Regina thank you for letting me know. Emma is a great girl and my niece so I always want whats best for her. Will you be coming in when you drop her off?"   "Yes. I told her the baby wants a bear claw".   "Ok good. I'll make sure they save one for you and I'll tell Emma that I have to much to do and that she can take the books home and try to work something out".   "Thank you Granny. I'll make sure she works on the books after she sleeps a bit and if you want she can be there bright and early tomorrow".   "Thank you Regina. We'll see what I have for tomorrow and I'll tell Emma".   "Thank you. I'll see you soon. Oh and by the way we never had this conversation".  Granny laughs. "I understand Regina". 

Emma's POV

Regina Drives me over to Granny's and I am actually totally exhausted but I need to work. It's what's best for me, Regina and our baby. She pulls into a parking spot in front of Granny's. My head is resting against the the back of the seat. "We are here my love, are you ready for a day of work?"   "Nope but this is all for you and our baby and I'll do what's right".  "Thank you Emma. I love you".  She leans in and gives me a kiss. "I love you Regina. Let's go. You said my kid wants a bear claw so let's go babe". She smiles and we both get out of the car. We hold hands all the way to the entrance and I open the door for her. I walk her over to the counter and she sits down. Granny comes walking out of the kitchen and walks over to us.  "Well if it isn't my favorite ladies. Hello Regina. Hello Emma are you ready to get started?"   "I'm all yours Granny".  "Ok then let's go". She starts walking out to the backroom. I kiss Regina and run after Granny. She takes me to her office and we both sit down. She explains what she wants done. I really just have to put all the delivery orders into the book and make sure they all get paid. Granny left me alone for about 5 minutes to check on the kitchen. As soon as she left I pretty much fell asleep sitting up. Granny came back in a few minutes later and woke me up. "Emma dear I think you should go home".  I'm surprised and saddened at the same time. "Granny are you firing me before I really get started?"   "No my dear. I can see how tired you are. Why don't you take these home and work on them".  "Regina talked to you didn't she?"   "I've actually been talking with your mother so I know what's going on. I'm sure your worried about them and that's probably why you are so tired. Am I right?"   I nod yes but don't look at her. "Emma it's not your fault. This is all about your parents. Take these home and get some rest and maybe later tonight you can work on them then come back after the lunch rush tomorrow and show me what you've done".   "Are you sure?"  "Yes I'm definitely sure. I have a bunch of things to do today. Plus Ruby is becoming to hard to handle, so take everything here, put them in your bag and go meet Regina out there before she leaves".  I smile and gather all the books and the papers. I put them in my bag and Granny and I walk back out to the dinning area. Regina is still at the counter eating a bear claw. I sit next to her and watch her take bites and she seems to love it. "Oh Emma my love. I didn't see you sit down. Are you done already?"   "No, Granny saw how tired am. She told me to take everything home and do it after I get some rest. I guess she's been talking to my mom and figured that it would bother me".  "So you can go home sweetheart?"   "Yeah. I just have to make sure I do all this work later".   "That's wonderful my love. Would you like to go back home now?"   "Yeah. I think I'd like that, but I'd also like one of those bear claws. Do they have any left?"  She looks over and says. "I don't know dear I can't see".  I see Ruby walk out from the kitchen with food and she brings it to her table. When she walks back over to the counter I catch her attention. "Hey Rubes any bear claws left?"   She goes over to the pastry case and says. "Yeah Ems. There are 3 more".   "Awesome. We'll take all 3. Thanks Rubes".  Her and Regina laugh. Then I see Ruby putting the claws into a togo box and then into a bag. She gives us the bag and the tab. I pay it and Regina and I leave to go back home. We walk into the house and Regina says.  "Go upstairs to bed my love. I'll wake you later".  I nod yes and yawn. I give her a kiss.  "I love you. I'll see you soon. Wake me if you need anything".  I give her a kiss and I start walking upstairs. I stop and turn around to look at Regina and I say. "Hey babe, can you at least save me one of those bear claws?"  She gives me a cute laugh and says. "I'll try my sweetheart but I make no promises".  I smile and go up to change and get into bed and I fell asleep almost instantly.  It seems like just a few minutes later that I'm being woken up by Regina.  She kisses my lips and I hear her say. "Wake up my love, dinner is ready".   "Hmm. Ok babe".  I stretch and fall back to sleep. "Sweetheart please wake up or you'll be up all night again and be a mess tomorrow. Come on Emma. I made your favorite dinner".  I open one eye and look at her.  "What did you make?"   "Well I thought you'd like something to fill your belly so I made you fettuccine Alfredo".  "With broccoli?"   "Yup and chicken my love". I smile. "So are you going to get up and eat while it's hot?"  "Yup. I'm definitely in the mood for that now".  I stretch again and sit up. Regina stands and then so do I. I'm just wearing a t-shirt and my boxer briefs so I put on some socks and a pair of sweatpants. Regina and I walk downstairs hand in hand. We go into the dinning room and our plates are already on the table with some garlic toast and a nice glass of ginger ale. I kiss my beautiful wife. "Thanks babe. You are way to kind to me".  "I love you Emma and I wanted to make sure you had a good meal and then maybe I can help you with the work that Granny gave you to take home".  "Thanks babe all this is great. It smells delicious. Can we eat now?"  She chuckles a bit and says. "Yes my love. I'm starving". We both sit down and I dig right into the food. It was definitely delicious. After my first few bites I said.  "Shit babe this is incredible. I'm so glad we got married. Not only do I love but you can cook. Damn woman".  I say with a little laugh and Regina just smiles and rolls her eyes. After I ate 2 plates of my favorite dinner I helped Regina clean up and wash the dishes she put the leftovers in a container and sat it on the counter to cool. "Your gonna save that right?"   "Well I could throw it away if you'd like".   "Oh no no no. Please keep it. I may want more later tonight". She smiles and kisses me. "I figured that, that's why I made extra".  "You are the bestest babe. Thank you".  "You are welcome my love. So I think you should get to work on those books that Granny wanted you to work on".  "Yeah I guess I should".  I go grab my bag off the hook in the foyer coat rack and go back into the kitchen and sit at the little table. I pull all Granny's books out of my bag and get to work. "Do you need help my love?"  "I don't think so babe but I'll let you know". She gives me a kiss and leaves me to get to work.
