A Night We'll Never Remember

Chapter 23

Time Jump - 3 months.

I'm half asleep when I hear the sweet voice of the woman I love. "Emma". Then I feel gentle kisses to the back of my neck and my cheek. I'm hugging my pillow and I'm faced away from Regina. I groan out. "Mmmm. What's up babe?"   I feel kisses again. "Well my love it's time to wake up and get ready".  "Baby I'm tired. Can I sleep please?"   "My love I know you had your training the last few days and that you are so tired from that but today is my doctors appointment. If you don't want to get out of bed and come with me to hear our baby's heartbeat and possibly find out the gender then you can stay here and sleep my love. I'm going in to take a shower. Make up your mind quickly my love".  She kisses my cheek and gets out of bed. I hear the bathroom door close and it only takes me a second to jump out of bed and run over to the bathroom. I take off my boxers and tank top and join her in the shower. I hear an evil little laugh from her and I smile. I wrap my arms around her and put me hands on her bigger baby belly. I kiss her neck and say. "Thank you for waking me babe. I don't want to miss this for the anything".  She lays the back of her head on my shoulder and turns to face me. We kiss on the lips and she says to me. "I'm so glad you woke up to come with me to the appointment my love".  "This is my first time going with you to an appointment. I can't wait to see our baby on the screen and to hear the heartbeat. Regina thank you so much for not giving up on us. I do love you so much. I can't wait for the next part of our lives".  She turns around and hugs me. "Oh Emma. Since the first time we talked there was just something about you that I really liked. You were honest with me when I asked you any kind of question".   "I have no reason to lie to you Regina. What you see is pretty much what you get".  We share a kiss and then we wash each other's bodies and hair. It's nothing sexual just us being close and enjoying the moment. Once we are all done and dried off we got dressed. We go over to her doctors office and check in.  After a few minutes we get called by the nurse. We follow her into an exam room and I help Regina up on the examination table. The nurse takes her blood pressure and temperature along with some blood work and a urine sample to check her sugar. The last time she was here the doctor thought it was a little elevated and she wants to keep a close eye on it. Some women get gestational diabetes while pregnant. When all the was done the nurse left and said the doctor would be right with us. When the nurse closes the door I ask Regina if she's ok. "I feel fine my love. You seem a little nervous, is everything alright?"   "Me? Yeah I'm ok. I'm not nervous, I'm just really excited and I'm trying to contain myself. I still have the picture that you gave me from your first ultrasound and I still absolutely love it. Today we get to see how much our baby has grown in the last 3 months. I googled what our baby could look like when your 6 months along and it's so different from the picture I have. It was amazing how much a baby can grow in just 3 months". She leans over and gives me a kiss and a beautiful smile. Just then we hear a knock on the door and the doctor comes walking in. She greets us both and Regina introduces me to her. She checks on Regina. She made sure that her feet and ankles weren't swollen. She writes everything down in a file and then starts up the ultrasound machine. "Ok are you both ready?"  Regina and I both nod and we hold hands. It takes a moment before a clear image comes on the screen and I'm just completely at a loss for words. It's a perfect picture of our child. The doctor moves the wand around to take measurements and as she's typing on the keyboard I see the baby's right foot kick and Regina instantly puts her hand on her belly area. "Wow babe I saw the baby kick you".  She chuckled a little and smiled at me. The doctor says.  "Well the baby isn't in the right position now to find out the gender but there are a few things we could try to get the baby to move if you'd really like to know".  Regina looked at me and said. "I know how excited you are dear so if you'd like to know then so do I".  I think for a minute and say. "Actually I don't think I'd like to know. There are so few surprises these days. I'd like wait till we see what our child is when the baby is born, but if you want to know I could step out on the hall till your done".  I'm give her a sincere smile and she thinks for a moment. "Dr. O'Hara I think I'd like to wait with Emma and be surprised".  Dr. O'Hara smiles and says that's a great idea. She takes a few pictures and prints them out for us. Then she tells Regina everything is all set. The doctor hands me a bunch of tissues to help Regina clean off her stomach from of all the jelly on it.  When I'm all done she lowers her blouse and I throw the tissues away.  I help her sit up and the doctor hand us the ultrasound photos. My face is starting to hurt from the big smile I have on my face. "Ok Regina it seems everything is progressing as expected. Your weight is fine and the baby right on schedule. I should get you test results tomorrow so I'll give you a call when I get those. Your blood pressure is good and unless there are any questions or concerns I think we can finish up here".   Regina and I look at each other and she says. "I think we're good Dr. O'Hara. Thank you".   "Your welcome. Don't forget to stop at the reception desk to make your next appointment and I'll see you next month".  We both thank her and she leaves the room. I help Regina off the exam table and we go out to the receptionist then we head back home.
        Later on as we are in bed, Regina has her head on my shoulder and an arm wrapped around me. I really love the feeling of us laying in bed together every night holding each other. It's so great that I haven't even started looking for an apartment yet. I think we should have a talk about that soon. I figured that eventually we would live together but this was supposed to be temporary.  Regina starts to wake up and moves off of me. "You ok babe?"   "Yes dear. I just need to use the bathroom".  I watch her get up and walk into the next room. A few minutes later I smile as she comes back to to rejoin me. She gets in bed and snuggled close to me. "I'm sorry I woke you my love. Your baby likes to make sure I wake up every few hours to empty my bladder". We both chuckle a little. I kiss her forehead and say. "It's ok babe I was awake". She moves her head and looks at me. "Is everything ok Emma?"   "Ya I'm fine I was just thinking about a few things that's all".   "May I ask what's on your mind?"   "I was thinking a little about the appointment earlier and how wonderful it was to see our child on the screen".  "It's amazing isn't my love?"   "Yeah it sure is".  "Anything else on your mind?"    "Well yeah I guess I was thinking about something else".  I didn't say anything more so after a few quiet moments Regina spoke.  "Would you like to share with me Emma?"   "I was sorta thinking how I've been living here for 3 months and I haven't even looked for an apartment yet. I hope your not upset about that".   "Why would that make me upset?"   "I don't know. I mean I moved out of my parents place to grow up so to speak, and to get things ready for our baby. I needed to save money, get a job and to study for the police academy test. Granny helped me by giving me a job and giving days off whenever I needed it. And you have helped me more than anyone ever has. You helped me study, pushed me to never give up when I thought I couldn't do it".   "Emma sweetheart. Everything your saying is wonderful but where are you going with this?"  "Well with your help and belief in me I was able to to do all of those things". She smiles at me.  "The only thing I haven't done was get an apartment that would be perfect and safe for the baby".   "Ok dear we both don't have to work tomorrow so we can start looking for your apartment if you'd like?  For now it's late so we should try to get some sleep".  She leans in to kiss me.  "I love sweetheart".  "And I love you too Regina. Sweet dreams baby".  She smiles and rolls over and hugs her pillow.  I move in close to her and hold her from behind. I gently caress her baby belly as we both try to fall asleep.  She didn't seem upset with me but little did I know she hid it very well. She ended up not sleeping and crying all night as I slept.
