I wake to kisses all over my face and a sweet sultry voice saying. "It's time to wake up my love. We have a lot of things that need to get done today". Unfortunately not much of that registered in my head because I was basically in a dead sleep. Regina's California King Sized bed was unbelievably comfortable. I'm so glad I decided to stay here with her. "Emma. Damn it. Are you awake?" "Hmm. A little babe. A little". Regina laughs and slaps me gently on my shoulder. "Oh Emma my love get up. We have a lot to get done today". "Hmm no babe let's sleep. What do we have to do?" I mumble out. "Well I wanted to make us a nice breakfast then help you with a little studying. I do have some shopping that needs to be done. I especially need more food around here. Not only for you but for this little one. And before you ask yes most of it will be healthier foods like fruits and vegetables". I look at her through my tired eyes and smile. "I guess all that doesn't sound so bad. What do I do first?" "Well you can get up and shower and get dressed. Then you can meet me in the kitchen for breakfast". She gives me a kiss then stands up from the bed. I see that she is already dressed as she heads out of the room. I stretch and roll over and close my eyes for just a minute. It was during this minute that I hear Regina call to me from downstairs. "Why don't I hear water running Emma?" I leap out of bed and say. "I'm going in right now babe I swear". The first thing I do is turn the water on inside the shower. I got a clean towel out of the closet and undressed. I took a nice hot shower and I felt nice and relaxed. About 15 minutes later I met Regina in the kitchen and she was just putting our plates down on the table. "Just in time my love. Would you like some orange juice dear?" "Yes thanks. I'll get though. Have a seat. You having OJ as well?" "Yes please". I get 2 glasses out of the cabinet and put some ice in one. "Ice babe?" "Sure why not". I put some in her glass then filled them up with the orange juice. I put the glasses on the table and sit next to her. "This looks delicious sweetheart thank you". "Your very welcome my love". We start eating and it is very good. She made us broccoli and cheese omelettes, home fries and crispy bacon. I hear little chuckles coming from her. "Did I miss something funny?" "No. I'm sorry dear it's just, after you take a bite you let out a little hum". I blush a bit. "I do? I haven't even noticed. Sorry". I say a little embarrassed. I take a sip of my juice. When I go to take another bite I just put a small amount of the omelette on my fork and eat it making sure not to make a sound. "Emma I'm sorry. I didn't say that to hurt your feelings I just thought it was cute that's all. Please don't be upset". "I'm not upset I just feel stupid". I say putting my fork down. She takes hold of my hand and says. "I'm so sorry that I ruined your breakfast I certainly didn't mean to. I really liked that you were enjoying it so much. I loved knowing that something as small as making your breakfast made you so happy. I always want to see you that happy so please don't let something I said stop you from that". "So you really thought it was cute?" "It was extremely adorable my love". She says with a big smile which makes me smile. I pick up my fork and start eating normally again. When we were done I helped her clean up and then we left to go out food shopping. I wasn't surprised when Regina pushed the cart over to the produce section first she loaded up on a lot of different fruits, some I have never even seen before. Same thing with the vegetables. She got some weird looking green pinwheel looking things called fiddlehead ferns and then it was this green pine cone looking thing called romanesco broccoli. I'm someone who actually loves broccoli but have never seen this kind of broccoli. Then she finally got something I did recognize. Carrots. The weird thing was they were all small and all different colors. Every time she put these in the cart I made a strange face. I didn't think she noticed until she said. "Ok Emma what's wrong?" "Nothing". "It's not nothing you keep making a face when I put something in the cart. If you don't want to eat the food your unborn child and I'll be eating the frozen food section is a few isles away, but you better buy your own freezer to keep them in because I'm not having that crap in my house". She takes the cart and goes over to a new section and selects a few different types of lettuce. Then moves onto the next isle. I quickly walk to catch up to her and stop her from continuing on. "Wait Regina please. I'm sorry. I just never seen or heard of some of these things before. My mom was just a canned vegetable kind of cook. I'm sorry I didn't mean to upset you. Please forgive me. I can't wait to try whatever you make with these". She crosses her arms across her chest and doesn't look at me. I get and idea. I smile and get closer to her. I rub her arms up and down and say. "If I promise to hum while I eat these will you forgive me?" She tries to fight a smile and pushes me in the chest gently with her hand. "Idiot". I laugh. "Yes I am and I'm all yours babe". I walk behind her and wrap my arms around her waist. A woman walks by us and smiles. I say to the woman. "I'm an idiot and I'm all hers". She looks at Regina and says. "Congratulations". And leaves the isle. She slaps my shoulder. She can't help but laugh and says. "Oh gosh. What have I gotten myself into?" We share a kiss and continue on with shopping. I picked a few things I wanted plus some snacks and surprisingly Regina didn't fight me on the goodies. I tried to pay for the groceries but that wasn't happening. She did let me pay half of the total though. When we went home I helped put everything away and she told me to go grab my books for study time. We got lost in the reading and the end of chapter quizzes. We banged out chapter after chapter. We hadn't noticed but hours had passed and it was almost 7 pm. Regina seemed a little upset about that. "Damn it. I had planned a nice dinner for us tonight, but now it's to late to get it started so I'm just going up to take a shower. Why don't you order yourself a pizza". She kisses me and gets up to walk away. "Regina wait please. We can still have dinner. Granny's is only 5 minutes away. They have lots of food you like. Please let's go over there and eat. We haven't eaten since our breakfast at like 10 this morning. You need to eat and so does our baby. This is all my fault that we lost track of time. I should have been watching the time more closely to make sure you and our baby both ate. Please lets go to Granny's". She nods yes. "Ok Emma that sounds fine my love. Let's go". I give her a kiss and say. "I love you". She smiles. "I love you too".
As we are sitting in a booth at Granny's waiting for our food when I see my dad walk in looking very tired. "Babe excuse for a minute please?" She curiously nods and watches where I go. I walk over to my dad and sit next to him on a stool at the counter. "Hey dad what's up, are you ok? You look exhausted". He hugs me. "Hi sweetheart. I'm ok. I've been working a lot the last few days". "Sorry dad. What's going on?" "Oh you know just police stuff". He's being very evasive and it's starting to concern me. "Is everything ok at home. I've only been gone 2 days now. You guys able to make it without me?" He looks away and takes a sip of his coffee. "Dad. What's going on?" "It's nothing sweetie, everything is fine". "Dad I know you and mom. If you work late she's always ready to reheat or cook something fresh no matter what time it is. Please tell me what's going on?" "Emma we can't talk about this now. Please let's meet tomorrow and we can talk". "No dad tell me now what's happening". "I'm going into detail but your mother and I are taking a break right now". "Dad I'm sorry". He's having trouble looking at me. "This is about me isn't it?" "Emma I told you I'm not going into detail so please drop it for now". "Well that's a yes that it's because of me". Regina comes over and taps me on the shoulder. "I'm very sorry to interrupt. Emma my love your dinner is getting cold". "Ok babe thanks. I'll be there in a minute". She nods and puts a hand on my dads shoulder. "Hello David. It's nice to see you again. Would you like to join us?" "Hi Regina. It nice to see you again as well. Thanks for the invite but I'm getting my dinner to go. Thanks anyway". "Ok well maybe next time. Emma I'll be back at the table". I smile and nod and she walks away. Before I could speak again Ruby comes over with my dads order in a bag and the tab. He thanks her and takes out his wallet to pay. "I need to go sweetie. I promise we'll talk soon". He stands and grabs his food. We hug and I hold him tight then I say. "Dad I'm so sorry that this is all my fault". "It's not Emma. Please don't let this bother you". He kisses my cheek and says he'll see me soon then he leaves. I stand there staring at the door. I'm just so surprised that my parents are taking a break. Regina comes over and says. "Emma do you want to come back and sit down?" I nod yes and she takes my hand and leads me back to the table. I sit in the booth across from her. She picks up her grilled chicken sandwich and takes a bite. I have a burger with sweet potato fries. I pick up one of the fries and just toss it back on the plate and push it away. Regina puts her sandwich down and asks me. "What's wrong my love?" "We can talk about it when we get home so please eat. I'm gonna go to the bathroom babe. I'll be right back". I get up and walk into the backroom area where the bathrooms are. I don't even have to go so I just go into the employee break room and sit on a chair at the table. Ruby comes in a minute later and flops down on the loveseat that's in there. "Shit Ems this day sucks. I don't know why Granny didn't call you to work. I've been running around all night. I think I need a few drinks later wanna join me?" "Yeah maybe Rubes. I need to check on a few things first". My voice is so monotoned that Ruby looks over at me. "Ems what's up? You look a little off. What happened with David?" I stand up and start to leave the room and say. "I can't talk about it right now. I'm coming in to work in the morning maybe we can talk then. I need to get back to Regina. See ya Rubes". I go back out to Regina. I sit back in the booth. "I'm sorry Regina I just needed a minute to think". I look around the table and there is no plates of food on it. I was about to ask where everything went till a waitress came over with togo bags and gave Regina back her credit card. "Would you like to go now my love? Everything is all set". "Yeah thanks babe". We leave and I drive us home. I pull into the driveway and when I get out of the car I run over to open Regina's door. I then open the back door and grab our togo bags and we walk up to the front door together. She uses her keys to unlock the door and walks in. When we are inside I make sure the front door is locked then we go into the kitchen. I place the togo bags on the island and open the refrigerator. "You want something to drink babe?" "I'd love a water sweetheart. Thank you". I nod and get her water out and give it to her. I take a beer out for myself and then I open the freezer and take out my bottle tequila. I place both both bottles on the counter and go to a cabinet that has the small glasses. I poor a little, then I pour a little more tequila into the glass. I take it and my beer and sit next to Regina on the stool. I drink all the tequila down in one swig and take a big gulp of my beer. "Emma what's going on my love, please tell me?" "I guess I'm just a little upset and I'm sorry, but I didn't want to talk about it at Granny's". I take another long drink of my beer. "My dad told me tonight that he and my mom are "on a break" whatever that means for them. I also asked my dad if I caused the break but he wouldn't answer. So that's an automatic yes. I just feel bad. My mom told me to move out so I'm doing that, but what could have happened in the few days I've been gone?" "I don't know sweetheart. I'm sure you'll dad will tell you when he's ready". I just shrug and finish my beer.
