We arrive at Granny's and I find a spot right out front. I shut the engine off, I get out of the car and run around to Regina's side and open the door for her. "Thank you my love". I close the car door and she takes hold of my hand as we walk up to the entrance of Granny's. I open the door for her and she walks in and I am right behind her. It's a little crowded for this time of day. It must be a mix of breakfast and lunch people. I look around and see my parents sitting in a booth. My mom was facing the door and looked right at me. "Hey babe it's beautiful out why don't we tell Ruby that we'd like to eat outside, if that is ok with you?" "Of course sweetheart. I don't mind the fresh air". "Great. Why don't you find a us a table in the shade while I get us menus. Do you want something to drink?" "I'd love some ice water and some orange juice please". She gives me a kiss and walks outside. I walk over to the counter and tell Ruby that we will be outside and we both want an ice water and 2 large orange juices, 1 with ice. Ruby gives me 2 menus and as I start to walk outside I feel a hand on my shoulder. "Emma wait please". It's my moms voice. I turn around and look at her. "I'm sorry for the way I spoke to you Emma. If you'd like, you and your friend can join your father and I". "My friend, really mom? She's still my wife and she's carrying your grandchild, but maybe you just don't care about that. I know I'm some sort of freak to you and a complete embarrassment but I don't care what you think. I found someone that loves me for me. Even with my freakish body she sees beyond that. She sees me mom. Just me". My dad comes over. "Hey I think it's time to calm down. People are starting to watch". "It's fine dad. Please excuse me I have a wife and an unborn child that want breakfast". I walk away without another word. I see Regina at a table and I sit next to her facing the door. We both look over the menu and I hear the door open and out walks my parents. 'Shit'. I say to myself. Of course they walk over to our table. "Hello Emma sweetheart". My mother says looking at me. Damn her. "Hey mom, hey dad". My mother holds out her hand to Regina. "Hello. I'm Mary Margaret, Emma's mother and this is my husband David". The 3 shake hands and Regina says it a pleasure to meet them, she also asks if they'd like to join us. My mother says yes but my dad thankfully said they and a prior engagement that they needed to tend to. They said how nice it was to meet Regina and my dad escorted my mom way. "So those are your parents? They seem nice. To bad they couldn't join us for a little while". "Yeah to bad". She must have noticed a little bite to my words. "Emma dear is everything ok?" "Sure babe. Why would it not be?" "Well I'm not sure but you didn't seem to happy that I invited them to join us". As I was about to speak Ruby came over to take our order. I said I didn't want anything just yet and I didn't because I wasn't in the mood to eat after seeing my mom. Regina also asked for more time. Ruby nodded and walked back inside. "So what's going on Emma?" I let out a deep breath and say. "I knew my parents were in there but I didn't want to sit with them, well my mom more than my dad. The day we met at Granny's to talk, when I went home and told my parents everything they seemed so happy. I also needed to make amends to Ruby for shutting her out. So I came back here and helped her clean up. We talked and drank way too much. I called my dad for a ride home. I was just trying to be responsible. The next morning my mom freaked out on me cause I got drunk and I have a kid coming soon and I'm still living with them. So she told me I had two weeks to get out". Regina looks sad and says. "Emma I'm so sorry". "It's fine Regina this isn't your fight. This is between me and my mom. I just need to get a place of my own that's safe for when our baby is there and I need to get a part time job till I hopefully get into the academy". "Emma I'm so sorry. You have so much going on right now, how are you holding it all together?" "I have to hold everything together Regina because everything I do now concerns you and our child. To me that's all that matters". She leans in to kiss me. "That's beautiful Emma thank you for saying that". "It's all the truth. I'll do anything for you and our baby Regina. I promise". Ruby comes back a few minutes later. We gave her an order to go. Neither one of us wanted to stay there so when we got our food we went back to Regina's house and ate breakfast out on her backyard patio.
After we ate we outside on the patio we decided to sit there for a little while and enjoy the beautiful spring afternoon. It's the beginning of June so the weather is just perfect right now. Not to hot and not to cold, and definitely perfect weather for sleeping at night with the windows open and the gentle breeze blowing around the room. That's actually what I had last night sleeping with Regina in her bed. I like thinking about last night and holding her in my arms. I have a lot to get done in such a short time. Not only do I need to study hard and get a good paying part time job, but I need a safe place that Regina wouldn't mind staying at once in a while when I have the baby. It's only been the second day so that means I have 13 more to get out of my parents apartment. "Fuck". I feel a hand on my shoulder with a tight grip. That wakes me from all my thoughts. "Hmm. What?" I look over at Regina. "What's wrong babe?" "I was going to ask you the same question dear. You just cussed out of no where. Is everything ok?" "Cussed? I'm sorry I didn't realize I spoke out loud. I was just thinking". "May I ask you what you were thinking about?" "It's just so much Regina. I've got 13 days to get a job and an apartment that's not only is safe for our baby but something that you wouldn't mind coming to either. I still have to deal with my mom and I definitely don't want to do that but I really need to start to go get things done and it sucks because I love spending all this time with you". I look over at her and she unfortunately seems upset. She stands and starts to gather the dishes. She won't look at me. I stand and help her to clean the table. We carry everything into the kitchen and throw the few leftovers away and put everything into the dishwasher. I take the cleaning spray and a clean towel out to wash up the patio table. When I went back inside Regina was no longer in the kitchen. I washed may hands in the sink and after I dried them I went to find her. She wasn't in her office or library. I found her in the living room sitting on the couch with her head back against it and her eyes closed. I carefully walk in and sit on the couch with her. I speak softly so I don't startle her. "I'm sorry that I upset you Regina. I really didn't mean to". "I'm not upset Emma. Everything is fine. You have things to do. You should probably get started on them before time runs out". "Regina please I'm sorry. I....". She sits up and looks at me with eyes wide open. "Emma I don't want to hold you up any longer. I'll walk you out. I hope we can have another date soon. We are taking this slow right?" She doesn't wait for my answer she just walks right past me out of the room. I follow her to the front door and she opens it. "Yes. I can't wait for our next date. Maybe we could...". She cut me off before I could finish my sentence again. "I'll text you when I'm free Miss Swan". She leans in to what I thought would be a kiss on the lips but she kissed me on the cheek and pulled away. It felt so cold. I've hurt her feelings and that sucks. She's basically throwing me out. "I hope you call me soon. I miss you already". "Good luck with your searches Miss Swan". And with that she closed the door and I could hear it lock. What was up with the Miss Swan stuff? She must be really pissed at me. I walked away from her house and got into my car. I'll text her later. Hopefully she will have had time to calm down.
