Chapter 10
The next morning I woke up to the feel of something stroking my forehead gently. I turned my head to look at Leon who was lying beside me on his bed. I had fallen asleep in here after our night together. Now that it was day I could see everything clearly. The sheets on the bed were white, almost everything in the room was white. There was a wide window with a view of the lake. Leon was smiling at me with a reflective look on his face.
"What?" I asked with a shy smile.
"Do you think that you would be happy if you moved here and stayed by my side. This is one of my most secretive houses, only handful of people know where to find it so you would be safe." I stared at him. I didn't know what to say. Of course I would be happy but my happiness wasn't the only thing to consider. Even though Shire was beginning to warm up to him again Gianni still saw him as the mean man. Then there was the diner. I couldn't abandon the thing that I had worked so hard on. I was speechless, how would I respond?
I sighed. "Leon . . ."
"What? Kaitlyn I will do everything in my power to make sure that you enjoy life forever. I am offering you house for you and son." He propped himself up on his elbows then turned on his side so he was facing me directly. "Please Kaitlyn now that you are here I can't imagine you leaving. I have seen you in my bed lying beside me and I can not imagine waking up without you. I walked by the room you left our son in, he was curled up with dog and he looked so peaceful. I have missed his first everything and I want to be there for his anything else. Do you remember when we were in Scotland and you asked me about a family. My heart literally jumped and I froze. I was happy you asked. Kaitlyn I am not very good at expressing my feelings, you are first woman I have ever come this close to, I love you please."
"Leon . . . "
"Is it the diner you worry about? You can run it from here, all profits go to you, I pay for your plane rides down there to check on it. I will ensure you get monthly reports, weekly reports if that is what you want and you will in no way be handing over any rights to it."
I stared him in the eyes. He seemed genuinely serious about his offer. "I don't want to be a side woman for you to come home to after a long day of killing."
"You will not be side woman, I will marry you and as for killing I will leave the Mafia."
"No you can't, they'll kill you!" I was terrified. I would have rathered he stay in the mafia than for him to get killed trying to get out for my sake.
"Yes but your father has shown me that when you have family you do not care so much about the consequences you only think about how you can get to them."
"Don't be like my father. He was nearly killed!"
"Yes nearly but he was not."
"Only because you were there! Leon don't!"
Crying came from a distance. Gianni was awake. I found my clothes along the floor, got dressed then went to get him. When I entered the room he was sitting with his back turned to the door while crying.
"It's alright sweetheart, mama's here." I said as I picked him up.
"Mama you left me . . ." He mumbled as he rested his head on my shoulder.
"No I was in the next room."
"Why?"
"Um . . ." How did I explain this to a two year old? My face went red. "We were talking."
"About?"
Oh my gosh he was never this inquisitive. "About . . . ." I had to think. "About moving in here. What do you think?"
