Nishikita quickly blushed and looked away. He just couldn't believe that Takagi-San would ask a question like that. Were his feelings for Akari-San so obvious that Takagi-San could read him like a book. And if she knew, did this mean that Akari-San also knew. 'Surely not, she would've mentioned it if she knew how she made him feel.' Nishikita looked at Akari-San and was surprised to see her just smiling at Takagi-San, not a hint of red on her face.
She may have looked like she was fine, but on the inside, Akari-San was freaking out. She knew she was taking a risk by holding Nishikita's hand, but didn't think that Takagi-San would notice. Her mind raced at light speed to think of something to say in response to Takagi-San's question. Luckily for her, Nishikita quickly responded.
"U-uh w-we aren't d-dating" he sputtered out.
"Okay then" replied Takagi-San. Maybe she still had a chance.
"So Takagi-San, how are you?" Akari-San asked.
"I'm alright thanks, just been a bit sick."
"Okay that's good, we came to make sure you weren't deathly ill." Akari-San stressed the word "we" and everybody noticed. Nishikita started to feel that strange tingling in his stomach again and Takagi-San started to feel the strange sensation of jealousy creeping into her heart.
"I think it's time we should go Akari-San, i'll meet you outside I just need to tell Takagi-San something quickly" Nishikita said.
After Akari-San left, Nishikita apologized to Takagi-San for how he had treated her on the way to the nurses office. At school he had been getting a lot of people telling him that he should apologize to her for that and he decided that it was the right thing to do.
"I accept your apology Nishikita, but please don't do that again."
"I wont." promised Nishikita.
As he walked out, Takagi-San thought about asking him about his relationship with Akari-San, but decided against it as doing that would likely just make him angry at her again.
*TIME SKIP*
They had been walking in silence for a while, and Nishikita felt something bugging him. 'I cannot believe how nonchalant she acted when she held my hand, how can somebody do that?' He decided he would ask her about it.
"Uh hey Akari-San, w-why did you grab onto my hand?" he asked her.
"I felt light headed suddenly so I grabbed onto your hand so I didn't fall over."
"O-oh ok." Nishikita internally cringed. 'I cannot believe I actually thought that it meant anything, I'm such an idiot'
"Why did you think I did it?" she asked him
"U-uh d-don't worry" He blushed and Akari-San noticed. She knew that he thought that she held his hand because she liked him, and whilst that was the truth, she couldn't let him know of that. On the side of Takagi-San, she wasn't sure of the relationship between Takagi-San and Nishikita, but she thought she had detected a hint of jealousy in Takagi-San when she grabbed onto Nishikita's hand.
Akari-San had no clue what reason Takagi-San would have to be jealous of her.
