Jade looked up to see who was talking to her. "Maz? What are you doing here" she asked as she wiped her tears away. "Well, I was on my way to the ball; but I just wanted to stop by and give you something" Maz said as she handed a box to her. "What is it" Jade asked as she looked at the box. Jade opened the box to see a silver cuff bracelet that says 'May the Force be with you' and 'I am one with the Force; the Force is with me'. "Happy Birthday, Jade" Maz told her. "It's beautiful. Thank you. Well you should get to the ball" Jade said as she puts the bracelet on.
"Aren't you going to the ball too" Maz asked. "I'm not going" Jade told Maz. "Why not" Maz asked. Jade stood silent. "Is it because Hux forbidden you from going" Maz asked. Jade nodded. Maz sighed out of frustration, "Jade, you know she can't stop you from doing anything you want" Maz said. "Yes she can. She controls me and the house" Jade said. "First of all, you have more rights to that house than anyone else. Second of all, Hux is your stepmother, not your mother. The only person who can control you is yourself. Besides, you are one thing that she isn't. You are a Jedi, Jade. You have more power than just about anyone" Maz said. "I guess your right. I am a Jedi" Jade said smiling in agreement. "Now that's the high-spirited girl that I met all those years ago. Now let's go to the ball" Maz said about leave. Jade stood up from the bench and said, "Maz wait. I can't go in this." Maz looked at the dress Jade was referring to. It was ripped to shreds, practically rags. "Your right. You can't go in this; but I think I have something for you. Come with me" Maz said leading Jade to her cruiser.
Maz drove Jade to her castle. It was where she both lived and ran her bar. Jade looked around the castle admiring how big and beautiful it was. They both walked into a room with a bunch of artifacts and knickknacks. "Did you really smuggle all of this stuff" Jade asked in amazement. "Sure did. Now go to that chest and open it." Maz said pointing to the chest. Jade walked over to it. It was a big brown wooden chest. She opened it and found a gorgeous icy blue feather dress with sleeves made of diamonds and rhinestones. "Where did you find this" Jade asked. "Canto Bight. It's a casino city on the planet of Cantonica. They have a lot of stylish people. Not even the queen has seen a dress like that" Maz said. "So in other words, you smuggled it" Jade asked raising an eyebrow. "Yes. Now go and try it on" Maz said. Jade walked out of the room and changed into the dress. She walked back in the room with the dress on. "You look great; but we're not done yet." Maz said as she gestured Jade to sit down. Maz put Jade's hair into three neat buns and fixed her makeup.
"Almost done. Let's see. Oh. You need shoes" Maz pointed to Jade's dull black shoes. "It's alright Maz, no one will see them" Jade said. "Here" Maz said taking the shoes out of a drawstring satchel. Jade was stunned on how beautiful they looked. "They're made out of diamonds" Jade said in awe. Maz nodded. Jade slipped the shoes on and then Maz took out a silver mask and placed it on Jade's face. "Perfect. Much better. Now we really must get going" Maz said with content.
"Maz? What about my stepmother and the girls" Jade asked. "You have a mask on, you have nothing to worry about" Maz said. "But a mask only covers so much" Jade added. "Well there is one thing you can do. However, it's something that you've never done before" Maz said. "I think I'm capable of doing it" Jade said sounding determined. "Ok. Place a hand above your head, close your eyes, and use the force to think about being unrecognizable to your stepfamily" Maz said. "But how will I know if it worked" Jade asked. "You'll feel a different kind of energy flowing through you. Like a shift" Maz told her. Jade placed a hand above her head and closed her eyes. She thought about being unrecognizable. Suddenly, she felt something that she has never felt before. The shift.
Jade opened her eyes and said, "I feel different." "Then it worked. You feel that way because the Force energy inside you is unfamiliar. Nobody has done anything like this before. Your the first to do it" Maz said. "How did you know about this" Jade asked. "I just do" Maz replied. Then Maz realized something and gasped. "Jade, I almost forgot. Remember, the force energy doesn't last that long. At the last stroke of midnight, it will all go away and everything will go back to the way it was" Maz warned Jade. " That's plenty of time" Jade smiled. "Now you shall go to the ball. Let's go" Maz said. Both Jade and Maz walked out of the castle bar and got into the cruiser and drove to the palace.
Jade and Maz arrived to the palace within minutes. Maz drove up to the front of the palace, where it showed some stairs leading to the palace entrance. "Go ahead, Jade" Maz said gesturing Jade to get out of the vehicle. "What about you" Jade asked. "I have to go park the cruiser. I'll meet you inside" Maz responded. Jade nodded as she got out of the cruiser and walked up the stairs. She walked through the palace doors down a long hallway. The palace was beautiful itself. Just then, Jade reached the doors that lead to the ballroom. She held on to the door handles, closed her eyes, and said to herself, "Here goes nothing."
