"Wake up changelings" said one of the security guards and started slamming his baton on the prison-cell bars to make as much sound as he possibly could.
The mornings are always like this, you get awoken by the horrible sound of hard wood hitting metal bars daily, you get told whenever there's breakfast, lunch and dinner and you have your entire day planned out by somebody you only see on tv. The usual menu for breakfast is a disgusting mix of porridge and stew that tastes like vomit. Chunky and sometimes has meat in it, slimy, warm vomit.
I noticed that in the back of the cafeteria sat Rubie and the group from yesterday that threw food on the monitor. I grabbed my breakfast from the lunch lady and made my way to the table where Rubie and the others sat to hopefully sit with her and talk to her? But before I could even try and sit down on the only empty seat, some other girl came and sat at the table where I was going to sit!
I was just about to leave and go back to another table, but before I could even take a step to leave. I heard Rubie turn around and yelled "Hey Cassie!". I turned around and saw that Rubie waved her arm for me to come to her table, but I was unsure? Since just a few seconds ago, it seemed as though they didn't want me to sit there?
With a rock stuck in my stomach, I walked up to the table once more and grabbed one of the chairs from the other table and sat down.
"So, guys this is Cassie" Said Rubie and introduced me to the group. "Your little savior from yesterday" said a girl with a raspy, but sassy voice and tattoos from her neck to all the way down to her toes. "You know Rubie?" Asked the boy with metallic gloves from yesterday, "We talked yesterday..." I said, but got interrupted by Rubie saying "Yes, we know each other, now get on with the plan" said Rubie and showed no interest in keeping the conversation going.
"We'll talk about the plans later" said the boy with the gloves and walked away with the other teens in the group, leaving only Rubie and I at the table. "What plans did they talk about?" I asked as I saw Rubie struggle to decide if she was going to join them or not? "I can probably tell you later, I have to ask Harry first. It's the guy with the gloves by the way." Said Rubie and stuffed what was left of her breakfast in her mouth, before leaving the table.
I sat alone at the table and ate the rest of my breakfast and pondered on what their plan might be? And why they had to leave all together? I ate the rest of my food as fast as I could and follow Rubie to where the rest of the group went.
I ran past the security guards and down the many hallways, past cellblock A, B and C. But just as I thought all hope was lost in keeping up with them, I caught glints of Rubie's luscious red locks as they went inside cellblock D.
I looked around to see if there were any guards nearby, but they all had probably gone off to eat breakfast themselves? I ran across the hallway, but stopped just outside the entrance of cellblock D. I only peeked inside to see that the group stood outside the cells numbered D112, D113, D115, D116 and D117. I stood by myself at the entrance of cellblock D and watched as they took notes on what numbers cells they were in, but just as I was about to leave and get back to my own cellblock. I was stopped by a female security guard, that grabbed my shoulder and pushed me into D-block.
"Is this one of yours?" asked the female guard with a deep and butch voice. "Yes" answered Rubie with a sigh as she yet again had to save me from embarrassment and getting shocked from the collar. "Hey you! brainy-boy. Come here!" said the guard and pointed to a boy with what looked like a shock collar, but this one was around his head?
The guard grabbed the young boy and left the block with him. I was just about to turn around to apologize for sneaking up on them but was abruptly interrupted by Harry who screamed "What did you just do!?"
"What do you mean?" I asked shocked and confused, trying not to get any attention from the other guards who had come back from their break. "He was our way out of this hell!" yelled Harry almost started ripping his hair out. I was still somehow confused as how a little boy could be their way out of this facility?
"He's a technopath, which means he can control anything electronic" explained Rubie calmly, almost hitting Harry for screaming at me. "At least he brought the list with him" added Rubie to further calm him down.
The group spread out to their individual cells hopeless as they didn't know what to do, but Rubie was kind enough to invite me to her cell. We both laid on the floor, watching the sun rise and go up above the building, just to the point where we couldn't see it anymore. "Lunchtime!" yelled the guard and hit his baton on the metal bars by the main door of the cell-block ,"Oh and hey, newbie. This is your new block" added the guard before leaving.
"Damn, what do we do now?" asked Harry and didn't care that I heard him! "We'll just stick to the plan" said Rubie, before leaving the group arm in arm with me to go and get lunch.
Rubie and I walked to the cafeteria, only to see that most of the seats were already taken. There was a table ready to use, but it was in the middle of the cafeteria. Right by the guard tower that towered over us as we tried to enjoy the slop we ate once more.
We grabbed our food and sat down at the table to enjoy a warm bowl of boiled vegetables or boiled chunky-noodles? When; "Attention all changelings, listen to what the overhead has to say" said the crazy security guard from the guard tower, the same one that shocked Harry close to death.
"The world has changed, ever since scientists started to find changes in the blood of kids and teens. Many of these kids and teens with this change in their blood have gained all sorts of abilities, but do not fear..." Started the video recording of Johnathan Prune.
"Same old speech, no reason to listen right?" chuckled Rubie and took a spoonful of vegetables. "Hey, what did you just say!" yelled one the security guards and made his was to our table.
"And there is the big bear of a security guard on his way to us" said Rubie and turned around to talk to him. "What's up Robert?" asked Ruby and took a big sip from the cup of water she had with her lunch. "Listen to the overhead or get a shock!" Said Robert and found the collar remote. "Would be nice to listen to something new you know, something we haven't heard a hundred times before" Snapped Rubie back at Robert.
Robert clicked the remote and Rubie fell to the floor, dropping her cup of water with a crash to the ground. Rubie twitched on the floor like a fish as the collar shocked her to the point where she couldn't scream anymore. "Stop it!" I yelled, but the security guard didn't care.
The other security guards around them watched as Ruby slowly got electrocuted to her near death. One of the security guards started getting closer to me, to the point where I could actually grab his gun! "Stop it!" I yelled as I grabbed the security guards' gun and pointed the gun at Robert, but he still didn't listen.
The sick bastard kept on shocking her, but I didn't hesitate and fired the gun at the collar remote and the remote exploded in Robert's hands! "Are you crazy!" he yelled and looked at his hands and watched the damage I had done. I threw the gun away and got to my knees and tried helping Rubie up from the floor, but when I was just about to help Rubie get to her cell.
We started off slowly, but it didn't take long for me to feel what it's like to get kicked in the face by the security guard, which knocked me out.
