I sighed as I played with Steven's hair to give him some sense of content. He hasn't been doing well for the past few days and I want to be there for him. However, he's been more distressed every time I see him; he's always tired, unmotivated, mysterious and distant to us. Whenever we meet, he'd just want to cuddle and not talk at all which concerns me. Steven has been wearing more layers of clothing, including gloves. It's strange as he really doesn't like many layers of clothing.

What if he's harming himself?

"Steven, we need to talk."

Steven just groggily hummed in response. My nerves making my heart beat rapidly.

"Are you harming yourself?"

"What? No!" Steven exclaimed as he sat up to face me.

"Then what's going on? Steven, you've been acting strange! Let me help you."

Steven looked at me in disbelief and I felt a wave of sadness wash over me.

"How am I acting strange, y/n?"

"You're always tired, unmotivated, distant and you wear layers of clothing. I know something is going on, Steven."

His face held a look of defeat. My whole being felt soft and I held his delicate face in my palms.

"Come on, you can trust me." I softly said as I kissed his forehead.

He gave in and melted under my touch. His eyes were now on the brink of tears and I was immediately concerned.

"S-something's wrong, y/n." He stuttered.

"What is it?"

Steven said nothing and just began to remove his jacket and gloves. My eyes widen at the sight I saw; his nails were getting sharp, patches of purple are appearing on his skin and what seemed to be horns growing out of his body. He began to cry and collapsed under my arms making me embrace him, tears spilling from my eyes.

"You're-"

"Corrupted." Steven continued for me as he dug his face deeper into my neck.

"Does the gems know?"

"They can't know..."

"Steven, they can help you! We need to tell them-"

"I said NO!" Steven shouts as he faced me again, his eyes turning dark for a moment.

I stayed quiet and looked at him in horror. I could feel my body shake as Steven's eyes look at me in fury. He realizes my state and his eyes went back to normal, his mouth forming a frown.

"Y/n, I am so sorry! I didn't mean to lash out on you..."

"I know, Steven."

I smiled at him to hide that feeling of fear I had. I grabbed his corrupted hand and gave it a gentle kiss, which made Steven blush.

"Y/n, I appreciate your concern. It's just that, can we not tell the gems until I find a way how I can stop this by myself? If it doesn't work then we'll tell them."

"Fine, I trust you."

Steven gave me a small smile and leaned in. I leaned in as well and kissed with so much love.

It's been three days since I last saw Steven. We've been texting, but he suddenly stopped replying today. My concern for him was now growing; I was afraid that he had been fully corrupted.  I quickly called Steven, but he didn't answer once again.

I promised Steven I'd give him space, but I have to check on him.

I hastily prepared myself and ran towards Steven's home. Thankfully, I live ten minutes away and running would take five minutes. People looked at me weirdly, but I didn't care about it. I was running out of breath and my body was slowing down. I finally reached the area, but it looked so dull and empty. 

I heard a loud monster scream over at the other side of the cliff and I dashed my way there. I saw a giant looking dragon, with sharp silver thorns, purple scales and striking black eyes with pink radiating pupils. The gems were defending themselves from its attacks.

I remember those eyes, skin and horns... Steven!

Steven had fully corrupted. He wasn't himself anymore. I felt my heartbreak as I watched him fight the people he loves. So many emotions flooded in all at once and it made want to break down, but I managed to stop it.

"Steven, this isn't you!" Amethyst shouts as Steven growled in return.

I approached him slowly. The gems noticed me and tried to stop me from going near him.

"Y/n, get out of here!" Garnet exclaims, getting hit by Steven's tail right after.

I ignored them and continued to approach Steven. I would be lying if I said that I'm not afraid for my life right now. He noticed my presence and lowered his head to go down my level. He wasn't attacking, he was just looking at me with those eyes I badly didn't want to see. 

"Hey, love..."

Steven continued to stare, the gems were close just in case he attacks. I cautiously raised my hand, wanting to touch him. He went closer and closed his eyes, indicating that he allowed me to be in contact with him. My palm met his scaly skin; I was broken but he seemed to remember me.

"How is this possible? When we approach him, he's aggressive with us but with you he seems to be fine." Pearl comments.

"Y/n might be the only person he can remember." Garnet answered with a low voice.

Steven growled softly and rubbed his face more, wanting the feeling of affection. I smiled and held his face with both of my hands, well I tried to. He seemed to like it, his scary eyes now shined but it was still that dark and terrifying form. I gave him a little peck and stared at his eyes.

"We'll bring you back, I promise."
