TAYLOR'S POV

One thing I'd learned this weekend from sleeping next to Caroline all night is that she's not the best sleeper. She would still be awake, tossing and turning long after I'd fallen asleep. But in the morning she always seemed to be okay, so I would try to cuddle with her and help her get to sleep at night, but in the morning I didn't think much of it.

I found myself waking up at 7am on Sunday morning, which was Caroline's birthday. She was still asleep with her head on my shoulder and her arm slung around me.i stayed in that position so she could keep sleeping. It was weird to think that this girl who came to me as a small 14 year old was 16 today. I'd known her for less than two years and we'd been through so much together. All of the things that've happened have made her mature much past her age, but sometimes if she was in the right mood you could still see the little girl in her.

As much as my shoulder ached I let Caroline stay on it, until around 8 when she started to wake up.

"Happy birthday, beautiful." I said when she started to lift her head off me. Right after I said that she leaned back down, this time resting her head right under my neck and she hugged me. I wrapped my arms around her and kissed her head.

She laid back down beside me and yawned. I got up and reached under the bed for her present. I handed the box to her and she sat up, tearing off the wrapping paper. She opened the white box to reveal the boots and the outfit she had told me she wanted a few weeks ago.

"Thanks Taylor." She said, smiling at me.

CAROLINE'S POV

For lunch Taylor and I ordered in, we'd been in our hotel room all morning and we were both still in our pajamas. So she let me choose what we'd have for lunch and I chose Chinese delivered to the hotel. It had been a good birthday so far, I'd been with Taylor the whole time. When I was younger I always thought that 16 was so old, now I'm actually 16 and I don't feel old at all. I feel exactly like I did when I thought that.

Our food arrived not long after we ordered it and Taylor and I sat together on the bed eating and watching Full House. Sometimes I thought of my good days as days like yesterday when we went out and did things, but they can also be days like today, not doing much and being okay with that.

"Do you want to go pick up that cake now?" Taylor asked me after we both finished eating. I told her that we should and we both got dressed, I put on my new outfit and she grabbed some clothes out of her bag.

Once we were dressed we headed out to Taylor's car, it kind of hit me just then that I could legally drive today. I'd taken my test last week but the license they gave me wasn't valid until today. Suddenly I couldn't wait to get home, get in my car, and drive around. Taylor bought a car for me around a month ago. It was a few years old because even if she is Taylor Swift she know that it's a car for a teenager.

I still got into the passengers seat of Taylor's car because I didn't really know my way around this town. When we arrived at the bakery my cake was ready, Taylor picked it up and we were starting to head back out when several people noticed that Taylor Swift was here. I took the cake from her as she took pictures with people and talked.

"Okay I've got to go now, I'm sorry, it's my daughter's birthday." Taylor told them after a while, I still got butterflies in my stomach when she called me her daughter. We went straight back to our hotel and pigged out on cake after that.

My 16th birthday was sure a memorable one. That afternoon we drove back to Nashville and that night I got to read my yearly note from my mom. After I did that I told Taylor that I would be back soon and I went driving around alone in my car for the first time in my life.

----------------

So this is a shorter chapter, but that's only because I can't start what happens next until the next chapter. So it's just to kind of fill you in on what's happening and transition to the next part of the story. If it kind of seems all over the place, I know, it's kind of supposed to be, I didn't want any part of the storyline unfolding here. Things will change next chapter to get a little more interesting.
