Jason and I throw ourselves into the front seats and in moments, the car roars to life.

I fasten my seatbelt and keep my hand firmly wrapped around the door handle as Jason backs away from the parking lot. I'm surprised he's not worried around mud spraying up against the spotless car as he hightails over the dirt road.

"Are you OK?" he asks, once we've turned on to a paved residential road.

"Yes, I'm fine."

We sit in silence for a while, I watch the road, but also see Jason from the corner of my eye, who's  glimpsing at me every few minutes.

"Look, if you're worried about Sara then I'll just tell her it was my idea, it'll work out, don't worry,"

"No, it's OK. It's my fault, I should've kept my eye on the time- Jason, watch out!"

Jason's eyes dart back at the road and then slams his foot on the breaks. I put my hand on Jason's chest and then the car screeches to a stop at a traffic light.

We're both quiet for a beat and then sigh and we start laughing awkwardly.

I take my hand off Jason's chest. "Sorry," I chuckle. "reflex."

"That's OK," he says. "I'll just have to earn my masculinity back some another time."

We chuckle half-heartedly and then we're silent again as the lights turn green and we've reached the town.

"Do you want me to drop you off home?" he asks.

"No..." I say, looking out the window to see where we are. "Actually, I can just get out here," I say as we reach another traffic light.

"Are you sure?" he asks.

"Yeah, I'll be fine," I say, opening the door. "Thank you for tonight, Jason. It was really lovely,"

"You're welcome," he says.

The traffic lights turn green again and I have no choice but to get out of the car. I wave to Jason through the window and he waves back half-heartedly.

I turn around and start walking towards the alleyway. The further I walk from Jason and the nearer I get to the alleyway, the more of a pull I get from Jason's car, wishing he could just drive me home.

I've reached the alleyway when I suddenly hear footsteps running behind me. My heart feels like it's jumped out of my throat as I turn around quickly, and I'm not expecting to see Jason standing before me, out of breath.

"Jason! What the?"

He bends over with his hands on his knees, gasping for air. He holds a finger up and tries to talk, but he literally can't get in enough oxygen. I want to laugh but I'm guessing this isn't the right time.

A simple raindrop falls on my cheek and I look up at the dark, clouded sky. A thunder storm is coming. One raindrop is soon followed by a thousand, pouring down on Jason and I, standing in the middle of the pavement, staring at each other.

Car horns sound from behind Jason and I'm really not hoping Jason's the cause for it. Or me.

"Jason, did you leave your car at the traffic lights?!" I shout over the rain.

Jason nods and stands up straight again.

"But what if someone steals it?! Jason, you-"

Jason steps forwards and before I know it, he's holding my face with his hands and planting a firm kiss on my lips. I'm struck. The kiss is so soft, but electric at the same time, like lightening. And before I think too much about what's happening, I lean it closer to Jason, feeling his warmth, wrapping my arms tightly around his waist over his soaked shirt, never wanting to let go. But all too soon, we part, and Jason's eyes stay on mine.

"I think you just earned your masculinity back," I whisper.

Jason chuckles lightly. With his forehead to my forehead and his eyes gazing into my eyes, his thumb gently strokes my jawline, and the simple touch sends tingles down my spine.

"Jason-" I start, but I'm silenced with a finger to my wet lips.

"Shhh..." he smiles; a smile so cheeky yet sincere, I could just faint right there. "I'll see you soon, OK?"

And before I can even say goodbye, Jason has already started running back down the flooded pavement after his car that's most probably stopping a whole town of traffic.

I stand there in the rain, still a little startled and confused, unable to think straight or even move; it's like I'm paralyzed. But then I smile. I smile because a boy just kissed me.

Not any boy. It was Jason. My Jason. And I know for sure that this won't be my last kiss I will encounter with this Jason Drew. I just know it.
