Tony went the rest of his school day as if the previous incident never occurred. Unfortunately, Bucky had seen and heard every word. He was determined to do whatever it took to get Tony out of that toxic relationship. So he had come up with a plan.
Tony walked out of his last/least favorite class and practically ran out the school gates towards his car. He turns it on and starts heading toward his house. As he rides out the school parking lot he spots Bucky walking. He debated offering him a ride home and before he even knew what he was doing he pulls up next to him. Bucky stops and looks at him. "Wanna ride home?" Tony asks. Bucky smiles and gets in.
They ride in silence for a while until Bucky speaks up. "Why do you let Steve put you down?" Tony stiffens up. "I don't know what you are talking about." He says still paying attention to the road. "I heard how he was talking to you earlier after you left the music room." Tony stays quiet. "Does he hit you?" Bucky asks very concerned.
"No never! I mean he can be rough sometimes, but he's never hit me." Bucky let out a breath he didn't know he was holding in. "If he ever lays a hand on you tell me. He's my best friend and all but no one should be treated like that. I won't let you get hurt." Tony glanced at him but payed attention to driving after.
Tony thought to himself 'Could it be that he likes me?? No! Of course not! He couldn't. I couldn't! Or could I? No I definitely can't. Not anymore at least. I promised myself.' Tony pulled up into his drive way. Bucky and him both got out the car and stood in front of each other at the back end of his car. They stared at each other for a while before Tony broke the silence.
"Bucky...Why do you care so much?" He asked. "I-I don't know." Bucky answers "I guess it's because I've known you since we were younger and I just feel like I should protect you, yknow?" Tony nervously chuckles and says "no not really, but I appreciate your concern." Tony pulls him in for a hug and Bucky returns the gesture.
"If you ever need anything let me know okay?" Bucky tells him. Tony kisses Bucky cheek in a friendly way and say "of course James." And walks into his house. Bucky smiles and walks across the street to his house. Tony walked in his with a huge smile on his face. His mom was standing in the hallway that separated the kitchen with the doorway.
"What's got you smiling like an school girl with a crush?" She asks as she walks back towards the kitchen. Tony follows her and sighs as he leans against the counter top resting his head on his hand, " James Buchanan Barnes." She turns towards him and gives him a surprised look.
"I thought you got over your crush on him since you are dating his best friend?" She says as she takes out vegetables from the fridge and motions for him to cut them. "No. I caught feelings for Steve and Bucky, and Steve had the balls to ask me out. James just gives me mixed signals since we were kids." He rants as he chops the vegetables.
"But he has always shown that he was interested... which makes everything so much confusing. Like today at lunch Clint took my lunch and instead of Steve doing something about it James have me his lunch but before I could thank him he walked away. So naturally I followed him." "You followed him? Why??" She interrupted.
"Well I was trying to tell you but you interrupted....Ow!" She smacked him on the back of the head. "Anyways I wanted to know why he gave me his lunch. But when he got where he was going we ended up in the music room. He was playing the piano and I kinda scared him and myself and we talked for a bit then we separated and when I was trying to leave I found Steve and he told me he never wants to see me around Bucky anymore so just to get him mad I am going to be taking James to school and back everyday."
"Wait. Didn't you tell last week you were going to break up with Steve?" "I did but I just don't know how so I'm hoping that with this plan that it will make him break up with me." "Tony, you are a smart boy. So why do you make stupid choices!" She asks as she smacks him on the back of the head again.
"Ow!! If you hit me any harder I'll start losing chromosomes!" He says as he rubs his head. "Oh you're exaggerating! I'm not even hitting you that hard." "Tell that to my dead brain cells." She hits him again. "This is child abuse!!" "Hey you are hardly a child." She says as she starts to set their table.
Tony gasps and holds his head over his heart. "Way harsh mom!" She smiles at me and shakes her head. "Go tell you father dinner is ready." Tony nods and walks out the back door. He walks to the side of their house and opens the basement door. He walks down the stairs and peeks his head around the wall.
He sees his father working on a new project and walks over to him. "Hey dad." He says. "Tony. Can you give me the wrench on that table please." Tony looks for the wrench and hands it to him admiring the object in front of him. "Mom said dinner is done."
His father sees him looking at it and says "You weren't supposed to see this until your birthday but, it's your new arc reactor. It's only a temporary fix but it should work for a little while." Tony looks at it in amazement. " it's amazing! Thanks dad." Tony hugs his dad. "It's no problem son. After dinner we can come down and finish it." Tony nods.
"Now let's get up there before she starts yelling at us." He pats Tony's back and they make their way up stairs. When they get up there Maria is placing the salad bowl on the table. "About time. Wash your hands!" The two wash their hands and sit at the table.
Later that night, Tony lays in his bed wondering what it would be like if he were in a different universe. As he starts to doze off he hears something hit his window. He stands up and walks towards it. He sees Steve outside his window with pebbles in his hand. He opens the window and whisper yells, " Steve what are you doing? If my parents hear you they will murder me!"
Steve wobbles a bit and slurs "Come down! I need to talk to you." Tony knowing that Steve is drunk gives in and meets him outside. (okay we are going to use our imaginations and pretend like Steve can be drunk k alrighty) "what do you want Steve?" Tony asks. "I told you to not talk to Bucky anymore!"
"He's my friend Steve." Steve grabs Tony's arm tightly and pulls him close. Tony could practically taste the alcohol wrapped around Steves breath."No he's mine and so are you. And I don't share what's mine with anyone." "We are done Steve. You don't own me!" Tony tries to get out of his grip but fails "Steve your hurting me! Let go!" Tony shouts a little too loud.
"Does it look like a give a shit!" He says grabbing him tighter. "Steve I'm serious let go!" Tony says tears are starting to fall from his eyes. "He said let go Steve." Tony looks behind Steve and sees Bucky standing there. "Hey buddy." Steve says as he lets go of Tony and tried to pull him into a hug. "Go home Steve." Bucky says with a serious look on his face.
"No,I'm talking to my boyfriend. How about you just mind your own business." Steve says. "No. Not until you leave." Bucky says as he crosses his arms. "I'm not leaving. Tony tell him you're fine." Tony stands there shaking and silently crying. Then Howard comes out of the house. "Tony get inside." Tony runs inside and is met with his mother and she holds him tightly.
"Steven I think it's best if you leave." Steve scoffs and peeks behind Howard and to see Tony. "We aren't finished you hear me." He then starts to walk off and purposely bumps into Buckys shoulder. Once Steve out of sight Bucky looks at Tony softly and mouths 'you okay?' Tony nods his head and gives him a little smile. He gives a little nod and begins to walk off when Howard says "James, thank you for being there when my son needed you. You are a good kid." Bucky smiles and says "it's no problem sir. Steve doesn't deserve your son , and Tony doesn't deserve to be treated like that. It's the least I could do." Howard smiles and walks I to is house "night James." "Night sir." They go into their homes and fall asleep. Not wanting to think about the previous events any longer.

Yall I didn't realize this until I revised it and realized that the end of this chapter gives out To All The Boys vibes. Y'know like that one scene in the first movie with LJ, Peter K, and Josh. Yeah....BTW what side are you on Team Peter, Team Josh, or Team John Ambrose? I root for anyone other than peter K because the second movie showed Peters true colors. Let me know what yall think.
