"Tell me what?" Ryan asked as he joined us on the patio.
Fuck. I'm in trouble. I started panicking and didn't know what to say. "Um, I was going to tell you..."
"That she wants to stay here another night," Danielle interjected. "She's not quite ready to return to the city."
Danielle looked at me and I mentally sent her a thank you. I was going to tell Ryan. I had to. I couldn't tell him just yet. Not here, and especially not before I talked to Jackson. Speaking of my secret lover, he wasn't with Ryan. Where was he?
"Sure," Ryan said with a smile, "we can stay another night. How about you guys spend the day doing whatever girls do and Jackson and I will have some quality guy time. Then we can all go to dinner. How does that sound?"
Again, I couldn't fathom a thought. This was...weird. My fiancée was dating by best friend and I was sleeping with his brother. How is my life not a TV show?
"That sounds great," Danielle said as she smiled up at him. Ryan leaned down and gave her a kiss. When they started getting a little too much into it for my pleasure, I cleared my throat.
Ryan pulled away immediately. "I'm so sorry, Anne. I wasn't thinking."
"It's okay," I said as I glanced to Danielle then back to Ryan. "You guys are...cute. It will just take some getting used to, I guess." They both laughed and I got to my feet. "D, I'm going to rest for a little while then we can head out."
"Okay," she said as she started to grab Ryan's hand.
"I'll meet you in our room," he said with a smile. "I want to talk to Anne for a second."
Danielle glanced at me before she left to go to...their room. Freaking weird. This whole thing was fucking weird.
Ryan waited until the door shut behind her before he turned towards me and cleared his throat. "You okay?"
Well, that was a loaded question. "That's hard to answer, Ry. It's just a lot to process."
"Yeah, you aren't wrong." He rubbed his hands over his face and left them there for a moment.
I got a weird feeling in the pit of my stomach. Something was bothering him. "Ryan, are you okay?"
He finally lowered his hands and started pacing back and forth in my room. "I don't know. I'm so confused about everything."
I knew how he felt. I was confused about this whole arranged marriage. I was confused about Danielle being in love with my fiancée. But, most of all, I was confused about Jackson. "I know," I said after a moment, "I am, too."
He walked over to me and pulled me into a hug. "We're going to figure this out."
I nodded against his shoulder and he said he would see me later as he left the room. I sat on the edge of my bed and leaned back against the plush mattress.
A knock sounded at the door before I heard it open. I sat up on the bed and saw Jackson come in my room.
"Hey, Princess," he said as he came and stood in front of me.
"Hey. Where did you go?" I asked. He kind of disappeared earlier when Danielle came in the room.
"I went downstairs to let them know we would be staying another night." He reached his hand out and softly caressed my cheek. "You okay? I know you weren't expecting Danielle to walk through that door. Neither was I."
"Yeah," I replied as I got to my feet, "it was definitely a surprise, but its good that we talked."
He raised a brow at me. "If it went well, then what's got you distressed?"
