Funeral

I wake up to the smell of pancakes
"Kat wake up please we have to talk about something" Raymond says
I wake up and look at him he's trying to bribe me with his famous pancakes
The reality hits me all over that my mom is gone and I silently cry as I look at him
"I'm sorry baby but school starts in a week and your moms funeral is in 4 days we have to go back today" he says looking at me handing me chocolate chip pancakes
"When can we come back" I ask
"Fall break is in a month so we can come back then the movie producers are coming in an hour for the auditions" Raymond says and I nod
"What time are we leaving" I ask
"5 here it'll be 3 when we land" Raymond says
I nod wordlessly I'm not ready to face my family I feel like it's my fault she's gone
"When are the producers coming" I ask
"In 20 minute" Raymond says
"Fuck I gotta get dressed and shit" I say looking at myself I get up and rush to the bathroom
"Change the Filter in my oxygen please" I say to Raymond as I hurry into the shower I quickly rinse and wash myself then get out and braid my hair doing mascara eyebrows concealer and powder only then I put on my glasses and Raymond brings me the oxygen machine I put it on and he hands me a new outfit and underwear I slide on the pink lace bra and thong he handed me and then slide on the leggings and sweater dress he handed me making sure my chemo port is showing so it's not caught on anything then the buzzer for the lobby goes off I rush back to the elevator to answer it
"Yes" I say pressing the button
"Miss Kat Theres 2 producers here to see you" Larry the bell boy says
"Bring them up please Larry" I say and fix my braid so it looks cute next thing I know the elevator dings and they come up and Larry leads them in
"Hi I'm kat welcome to my apartment " I say smiling as I look at the cleaned apartment knowing Raymond did it
"Hello miss kat I'm Rachel and this is tommy we're from ach productions we work closely with Netflix and currently they are wanting to do a few things with you we have a Netflix representative coming in a few minutes to discuss that with you though" Rachel says as I shake both their hands
"Well come in would you like to sit at the table or the couch" I ask
"How about we sit at the table" tommy says and I nod Leading them to the dinning table and I sit on one side
"Would Y'all like anything to drink" Raymond asks
"Do you have coke" tommy asks
"Of course would you like ice" Raymond asks
"That sounds great" Tommy says
"A Glass of ice water sounds lovely" Rachel says Raymond nods and goes to get their drinks
"We're so sorry we had to move the meeting up miss kat and on behalf of everyone we're all sorry for your loss" tommy says
"Thank you but it's my last day In la I have to get home for the funeral and I have a class of kindergartens I need to teach" I say smiling a little bit
Raymond brings 3 glasses back and passes them out ha hands me a glass of ginger ale with 4 ice cubes
"Of course so with Netflix we'd like to do 2 films with you and upon your agreeing we will give you a schedule and we are of course going to work with you on times seeing as your going through chemo and teaching a class as well and have your YouTube channel it will be a bit heck tic but I'm sure we can figure out something and just shoot more when you have breaks on school" Rachel says
"May I ask what the movies are about" I ask
"Of course one is the lead role in a movie called steel magnolias it's a reboot for Netflix you'll be working with some of the original cast as well" tommy says
"Okay and the other one" I ask trying to hide my excitement
"The second is a movie based on the book troubled with tattoos have you read it" Rachel asks
"Yes I have It was a great book what role would I have" I ask
"You'd once again be the main lead but it's also come to our attention your pregnant " Rachel says
"Yes ma'am I'm 5 weeks along I'll be full term in the spring" I say and she nods writing it down
"Well for now we will be shooting the steel magnolias first" tommy says the buzzer goes off again and Raymond goes and answers it
"Yes Larry go ahead and escort him up please" Raymond says
"That Must be the Netflix executive now" tommy says
"About your port miss kat is it okay if we cover it with clothing or do we need to edit it out" Rachel asks noticing its out
"We'd honestly habe to ask my personal nurse" I say as Raymond leads the executive in and asks if he'd like something to drink Raymond then gets him what he asked for
While I shake his hand and we speak a moment about my home state
"Raymond we have a question" I say and he turns to me
"Yes love" he asks
"Rachel asked if we could cover the port with clothes or if they need to edit it out" I ask
"You can cover it as long as it doesn't get caught on the port I'm sure we could talk to the doctor and get some concealer patches so that nothing sticks out and you could cover it wirh Make-up As well that way in order to edit it out" Raymond says
"That's sounds perfect for our projects" the Netflix executive Mathew says
"So miss kat I'm sure Rachel and tommy have discussed the movie opportunities with you where as I'm here to offer you a deal with Netflix for a tv show" he says
"Really a tv show what about sir" I ask
"It'd be about a teenager with cancer that they think is terminal but she goes into remission in the second season and she is so relived she starts going and living her life to the fullest like she had been before" Mathew says
"I like it I honestly like all the ideas but I have a question" I say turning towards Rachel more
"Ask away" she says
"Steel magnolias was my mommas favorite movie she passed on that love of that movie to me and I was wondering if when we finish the project if we could put a memorial for her at the end of the movie like it's dedicated to her" I ask
"I think that's a great idea miss kat" Mathew says
"I whole heartedly agree" Rachel says
"I'm all for it oh and you will meet the original stars of the movie" tommy says
"That sounds Amazing where will we be shooting everything" I ask
"Mostly in your home town and around it" Rachel says
"That sounds perfect" I say nodding
"Now we must discuss the contract and payment" Mathew says pulling out a large contract and a pen
"Okay so what's all Intakled" I ask
"So firstly we have to have all updates on your medical condition and let us know if you feel overwhelmed or anything and of course sugar is allowed on set as Long as she doesn't bark or make a scene we of course will keep tabs on everything the payment is up to mr Mathew of course" tommy says
"And of course after your little one is born we will give you time to spend wirh your child and recouperate and of course your little one can come on set so you can breast feed if you choose and we can hire a nanny if you like or bring someone wirh you to watch him or her" Rachel says
"Okay that all sounds agreeable so far may I read the contract" I ask
"Of course" Mathew says sliding it to me I flip through reading it all seems good and the payment is left blank so obviously we will fit that in
"Okay I'll sign after we discuss payment and that page is reprinted with the number in " I say
"Of course do you have a fax machine and printer here" Mathew asks
"I do it's in the office where my assistant is currently Raymond will you please go get Lisa" I ask
"Of course" he says going to get her
"How about I write a number down for the movies both of them together and then a separate number per episode of the tv show" Mathew says
"Okay" I say
He takes the contract flips it over and writes down the number then slides it to me
150000 for the movies at 20000 per episode
"Are you low balling me I make more than that with one assents check" I say looking at it
He takes back the paper and writes a new number
800000 for the movies and
50000 per episode
"That's more like it" I say and nod
"Do you agree miss kat" he asks
"Yes sir Lisa what's the fax number" I ask
"It's 6799840840" Lisa says
"Okay have your fellow executives send over the contract with thoose number In please" I say
He nods and calls someone then Lisa hears the fax machine ding and goes to get the contract then staples it
"Thank you lose" I say looking over it making sure nothing changed it hasn't so Mathew signs then I sign
"It's a pleasure doing buissness with you all when will shooting start" I ask
"We can start in a month we will let you get settled as a teacher first and then start with steel magnolias have your assistant send me copy's if your schedule so we can set up what days we work" she says
"Of course and Just know if anyone needs lodging my roommates all just moved out so I have a few spare bedrooms open" I say
"Okay miss kat well we will talk soon" Mathew says shaking my hand as they leave
Then I down the rest of my ginger ale
"Okay Lisa I have a question" I ask her
"Yess miss kat" she says
"Can you come on a work trip as I'm come stay a couple weeks in Georgia to help with my schedule and things seeing as I'm more busy now" I ask
"I'd love to miss kat when do we leave" she asks
"We're leaving 5 pm here we are setting up a new office and craft room at the house as well as a nersery which will all be fetured on kats channel
"You will have your own bedroom and bathroom at the house too you can choose which when we head over today do you need to go home and pack some clothes" I ask her
"Yes ma'am it should only take me 30 minutes" to pack" Lisa says
"Well it's 3:30 so if we go now we can stop for food on the way home" Raymond says as he gets our suitcases we head to the elevator and I make sure to grab the contract and we head down to the car park we get in the car I leave here and head to Lisa's apartment which isn't too far away she gets out and goes and packs we head in with her cause why not he packs clothes her laptop chargers some jewlerfy and random things then we head down to the car getting ready to go we leave and go to the food place near the airport we usually go to I learned it's called johnies we order than eat then we head to the airport by 4:30 we bored our plane and sit tight tsa checks our ids and says they are fine then we leave at 5 on the dot while we flying I decide I need cake
Luckily Raymond brought the cooler bags with the leftovers from the party I go through them and get a piece of cake out and start eating then I decide it needs goldfish so I get them out and put them on top and smile as I eat it soon were landing and it's 3 pm when we land I see the car that's supposed to pick us up and we all get in loading our bags in the back I decide to tweet that I'm home
Finally back in my home town after the horrible tradgidy that has happened to my family luckily I'll be home with them soon
Before I know it we're pulling up to my family's property we arrive in front of my house and I go in unlocking the door sugar runs up to me an pants and I rub her head I decide to call Sierra as I look around and notice nice is missing everything downstairs looks fine then I go in the elevator upstairs and see their doors are painted white but the chalkboard parts and I go in watch room seeing the furniture is there but that's all so I go back in the elevator and go downstairs and call Sierra
S: hello
K:Yo so y'all left early an didn't tell me
S: im sorry Kat i tried to call you but my move in day got pushed up and Joey had to go for ra training and I don't know what Aaliyah was doing I left you a note it's on your bed
K: okay I understand what would you like me to do with yalls furniture
S: honestly I'd say sell it or put it in storage
K: that's true okay I i have to go finish planning the funeral
S:I'm really sorry about your mom kat I have to go I have training soon I love you keep your head up
She hangs up as I walk in my room while Raymond shows Lisa around I see a note on my bed and decide I'll read it later I sit on the couch and decide we should go to the classroom with sugar so she can spend time there
Lisa and Raymond come down to get Lisa's stuff to take it to her room
"So what room did you choose"
I ask
"She chose Sierras old room she liked the colors of the furniture " Raymond says they take the suitcase up then come back
"We need to go get bedding and curtains for you But we need to go to the classroom too and work on my schedule" I say
"Do you have a big planner here" Lisa asks
"No" I say
"Then let's head to Walmart or target and get one we can grab curtains and bedding while we're there and then we can go to the school" she says
"I agree I'll stay in the car with sugar at Walmart" I say knowing I've had trouble there before I grab sugars best and Badge and put on my badge and Raymond gets his then we head to the car I drive to Walmart in the gwagon and they get out and go in soon they come back out with bedding curtains and a huge planner and stickers as well as a few snacks and things we head to the school next we pull up outside I park and get sugar where Raymond and Lisa grab the bags for school and we go in Lisa signs in and grabs a badge and we head to my classroom it's finally complete and I smile as I look around I sit at my desk and the principal and miss Olivia come in
"Miss Kat it's nice to see you I'm so sorry to hear about your mother" she says I stand and hug them both
"Thank you it's hard but I'm working through it what can I help you ladies wirh today" I ask
"Well we have your final class list and we have your final paper work stack for the kids here " the principal says handing them to me
"Well thank you is there anything else" I ask
"No that's all oh but reminder there's a pep rally the first day of school and that is next wendsday we officially are down to 5 days" miss Olivia says excitedly
"I honestly can't wait" I say excited to start my teaching career
"Awesome well we will let you get to what you need to have a great day" they say leaving Lisa sets up the planners and starts organizing wirh raymond appointments and school and things then she hands me my desk planner with everything on it for the next 2 weeks and I set it down writing in things myself for school like tests and teacher parent day and things like that then I work on the final name Dino's and have Raymond hang them on the bored outside then I test my smart broad and see it's working just fine I set up the tables with the baskets of things like pencils markers crayons and make copies of the first day of school crafts I set them on my desk and print standards and have Raymond put them on the bored and have Lisa make the final clips for behavior chart then put them all on green see we have a 6 level behavior chart there's geeen the level you start on then you can go up 1 level to a blue star if your extra super good but if your bad you can go down to yellow orange red then pink pink is the worst where you have to go to isss yellow is one warning orange is 2 and time out red is time out a warning and call your parents I check everything and everything is working great then I notice we haven't set up the curtains so I call the front office

K: hi miss Jenny it's miss kat in room 204 I was wondering if I'm allowed to hang curtains in my room
J: of course but let me transfer you to the principal to make sure

K: hello I was wondering if it'd be okay for me to hang some curtains I bought for my room
P: are they blackout or solid or see through
K: I have blackout and see through in my room ma'am
P:you can hang them we prefer blackout to ensure the safety of the kids
K: of course ma'am we'll thank you I'm gonna hang some curtains now
We hang up and I have Raymond and Lisa hang the anchers while I put the curtains on the rod they hang the curtains for me then we pin some Dino's with sight words on the curtains and I smile as I look around it's perfect on my desk I have a glitter frame with a picture of me and Raymond on my 17th birthday when we were at build a bear and one of me micheal and Jackson and me and my parents as well as one of me raymond Ellie and Austin when we were little I sit at my desk and spin
"Thank y'all it's perfect" I say smiling then my smile falls as my dad and step dad come in
" I knew we'd find you here" my dad says
"What's up dad" I ask
"Did you do the Netflix deal first off second off we have to talk about your moms funeral" my dad says pulling up a chair and sitting at my desk
"Yes I did the Netflix deal but I signed an NDA and what do you wanna talk about moms funeral about" I ask
"We need to hash out the final details and Alex is too upset to do so so let's do it" my dad says
"Funeral at the church wake at the funeral home then barrial after the funeral there should be tiger Lilly's and preferably Lily's and spider Lilly's thoose were her favorites we should have green and black table cloths when we eat like a bright spring green cause that was her favorite color we could either do lunch at the church or we could rent a ballroom and do a luncheon there and have someone cater anything else" I ask
"Yes what color casket should we go wirh and does she have a plot" my dad asks
"Do a silver casket or gold or rose gold whatever looks the best and she does i belive here lemme look it up on the family plot list" I say pulling it up in my phone see I have the family plot list because I'm don we all have a plot in the family cemetery
"She's plot 604 next to Jamie's plot are Noah an Wyatt gonna be there" I ask
"Yes and their father and step mother" my dad says
"Okay well if that's all I have to continue prep for the first few day's of school" I say
My dad and step dad give me hugs as they leave then I make the Print-outs for the second day of school and the third then decide to set up their welcoming packets while Lisa and Raymond put their names on folders for me then we finish and decide to leave we head to the house aftwards and I see some of the men there waiting for me
"Hey guys okay your gonna move some bedroom furniture into storage and move the guest bedroom downstairs out too were gonna set up a crafting room 2 offices but the trundle will go in one office upstairs so we can set up the nursery basically just move the furniture out for now" I say and lead them in I show them what rooms to move and tell them to put it in a the furniture storage that we have on our land and they say okay once the downstairs guest room is emptied I sit on the couch with my laptop looking at a nursery ideas then there's a knock on the front door I open it seeing it's my brother hay and mason and the doctor and nurse
"Mom asked me to bring the doctor over for your chemo and we wanted to know if you could watch mason while we go to hays doctors appointment and finish some wedding plans" my brother says him and hay are getting married in a week an a half on a Saturday at a vineyard close by
"Of course I can watch him hey mason do you wanna watch movies with auntie shel" I ask and he smiles and nods knowing I let him color too and have sweets
"Thanks Kat your coming to the wedding an funeral right" my brother asks
"Of course oh did dad tell you I signed with Netflix" I say
"Yeah he did I'm proud of you honestly" he says an nods at me
"Okay well we will see you later thank you for watching mace" hay says hugging me
"Of course" I say an nod as they leave the doctor hooks me up to the chemo and starts a bag of anti nausea
"Nurse will be hanging around today you have 3 more rounds today" the doctor says he leaves and the nurse sets up at the dining room table Raymond comes in and kisses my head
"Do you need anything" he asks as I set up frozen for me an mace to watch
"Can you do me a favor and bring me an mace some snacks an juice" I say and mace smiles
"Can I has apple juice pwease" he asks
"Of course" I say smiling at him
"Would you like apple juice too or do you want it mixes wirh sprite" Raymond asks
"Mixed wirh sprite please" I say he knows it's one of my favorite mock tails and apple juice sounds amazing right now we curl up and watch movies till hay comes to get him
3 days later
I wake up alone on the couch I get up and decide to go get greasy breakfast and then smoke a couple blunts with Raymond an Lisa before the wake I grab my keys and wallet and just decide to throw on a hoodie and shorts I make sure my port isn't caught on my hoodie and write a quick note and putting it on the fridge

Lisa has been a big help here so far we've filmed getting her office together her room set up and my office together and now we're working on the nursery I get in my car and start it I see my step dad walking up to my car though so I roll down my window
"Where are you headed kat" Jamie asks
"Gonna go grab martians since it's only 6am why what's up" I ask
"Everyone's in town and they wanna see you you've been doing all your work from the house and haven't let anyone come over" Jamie says
"I I know Jamie I just I can't handle some of the pitiful looks like oh poor pregnant girl her husband and step son are dead now her mom whos next damn shouldn't get too close to her maybe she's the reason they're all dead" I say looking down trying not to cry
"I know kat I know just make sure you and Raymond and Lisa come by this afternoon before we head to the wake okay " Jamie says
"Okay I'll go grab food come back get ready then I'll be over okay" I say

I nod an turn around so I can drive straight out the driveway I then take off down the driveway and leave heading to my old job when I get there the drive through is long so I decide to park and go in I have no clue what Lisa or Raymond wants so I'll just get a variety I'm next in line and I recognize the cashier I stifle a laugh and see my old managers too and see the old cook I used to work with I move up to first in line an the cashier practically screams
"OH MY GOD KAT GUYS KATS HERE OH MY GOD" she screams and practically jumps the counter to hug me
"Hey Jessie it's great to see y'all hey miss patty hey miss Bonnie HEY LARRY" I shout to Larry so he can hear me in the back
"Oh my gosh how are you well obviously not well but miss patty can we both go on break so We can talk to kat" Jessie asks patty
"Yes but let the poor girl order first" miss patty says
"Okay what can I get ya" Jessie asks
"Okay I have a wierd Order cause I've got an Italian and a Californian at my house so I'm gonna order some random stuff for them to try so uh let me get a large sausage and gravey a large biskets an gravey 3 chicken bis let's 3 sausage bis keys 4 butter biskets uh 3 cheeseburgers all with a large onion ring and large drink then let me get 3 large fries and 4 large hash browns" I say
"Is that all" Jessie asks laughing a little
"Yeah that should be enough whatever leftovers I have I'll heat up later or I'll give some to my brother" I say nodding
I pay for the instanne ammount of food whole Jessie makes my drinks
"You still want a sparkling Arnold Palmer" Jessie asks
"Hell yes make all 3 so I can make them try it" I say smiling I get my drinks and food then I sit at a table with miss patty and Jessie
"So how are you since your mom just passed an your husband an son" Jessie asks
"As Good As i can be i mean it's hard I was there when it happened I rushed to the er and she was in surgery next thing I know she's she's not there anymore and I feel like apart of me is missing cause that's my mom ya know an Jackson an micheal that still fuckinf hurts everyday I'm having a hard time getting out of bed between that an my mom an chemo it's just shit rn" I say rubbing my face
"I bet" Jessie says
"Well we're here for you everyone's gonna be at the wake and the funeral just like last time" miss patty says
"Thanks it honestly means a lot you guys should come over for dinner one night okay my number hasn't changed so text me you can even bring the kids miss patty I have a game room" I say smiling a little
"Of course" she says thinking of her kids and wife

I hang up and Hug miss patty and Jessie goodbye and wave to all my old coworkers I leave heading to my car I secure everything in and buckle up the food and my oxygen machine then I head to the house when I pull in Raymond comes out to greet me he takes the food and the drinks and kisses my forehead I grab my oxygen machine and head straight to the table where Raymond and Lisa are setting everything out
"Jesus kat did you get enough to feed an army" Raymond says
"Maybe" I say shrugging and sit down
"Okay so I got a lot of options for y'all to try southern breakfast food that is a large sausage gravey bisket that's a large gravey bisket that's some chicken biskets I got some hash browns some sausage biskets and butter biskets and hambergwrs fries. onion rings and sparkling Arnold palmers" I say
"What's an Arnold Palmer" Lisa asks
"It's lemonade an sweet tea mixed together but a sparkling one is sprite and sweet tea it's good" I say
"Uh okay" Lisa says we all dig in and eat there's tons of leftovers so Raymond puts them in the fridge while me an Lisa get ready I go to my room and put on the wig Jenna and I made and the romper I wore to micheal and Jackson's wake and I put on some black sneaker heels and grab my phone and wallet putting them in my bag then I move to the living room where raymonds dresses in a suit and Lisa is in a black dress that is short sleeved and goes to her knees we get in my car and head to my parents home so we can leave for the wake together we go in and I check the time on my phone 9 am great we go in and immediately eyes are on me my grandma hugs me as well as my aunt my other mom my dad and Jamie then I get hugs and handshakes from all my family and mafia leaders we socialize then my dad Raymond Jamie Lisa and I decide to head to the funeral home early make sure everything is set up nice for momma we get in 2 separate cars and take the short drive to the funeral home we frequent we arrive and I get out slowly there's allready a media truck here great we go in and my dad asks if I'll talk to the director cause he got a call yeah sure pregnant girl let's leave her in charge of a funeral
"Hi miss what are you here today for" the sweet old lady asks
"Hi ma'am we're here for the wake of christy I'm her daughter kat and jamie and my father just stepped outside we wanted to come check everything before everyone arrives in 45 minutes" I say
"Oh of course sweetie and I'm so sorry for your loss and we had just barried your husband and son too" the lady says
"Yes ma'am" I say nodding on the verge of crying
"Here follow me sweetie I hope everything is to your liking mr Jamie brought photos and things over and selected her dress and he said you requested Lilly's because that was her favorite darling if you need anything just come to my office okay" she says as she leads me to the open casket and I look in and see my mom she looks bueatiful even in death but peaceful she's in her favorite dress a long sleeve sweater dress she got when we went shopping after she came back her hair is parted and curled perfectly like it usually is and the casket is silver she shows me the pictures and video they will show during and I thank her seeing all the Lilly's and things I step out for a second as my dad and Jamie come back in
"Everything okay" my dad asks
"Yeah everything's perfect as it can be I just I miss her an I can't look in that casket again I'm just I'm gonna stay out here for a bit" I say and he nods hugging me soon pepole start filing in rushing to hug me and tell me stories of my mother and how much she will be missed I cry silently the whole day Raymond brings me water and a chair and a sandwich at noon with my medicine then I'm asked to go back in the room when everyone's here so I can do a speach as well as my brother
"Hi everyone" I say as I walk in and stand at the podium in front as everyone sits and stands there's not enough chairs for everyone

"I think In 3 months we should go on a public date to signal you getting back out there maybe or we could wait longer" Raymond says

"Sit on the bed I'll pick you something nice" he says and I nod I sit on my bed as he goes in my closet he comes back with my black wedge booties that lift me 4 inches off the ground a pair of black lace tights a black skater skirt and a black and gold body suit as well as my black leather jacket I nod and quickly get dressed then slide my phone in the pocket of the jacket luckily Raymond has my purse HES in a black and white suit simple then we eat lunch with Lisa and she drives my gwagon to the church and puts my car as the second behind the hurse we get out and Raymond helps me with my oxygen machine as I stand with Jamie my dad Alex hay mace Noah and Wyatt and my other mom pepole come and say they are sorry for our loss and hug us then when they start to bring out the casket from the hurse my dad an other mom head in and sit in the second row as well as Lisa where as Raymond stays with me I hold Noah's hand who holds wyatts hand since their dad told me I could watch them for the funeral and after party  seeing as he had to work luckily I have a car seat for Wyatt in my car they wheel the casket to the front and Wyatt Noah and I start crying Raymond asks Noah if he can carry Wyatt since we'd be too wide to walk down the isle and Noah agreed but Keeps his hand tightly with mine we walk behind the casket as I sob quietly Alex breaks down and almost can't go in the church that's when she hands mace to Raymond so he has a boy on each hip hay helps Alex inside as we walk behind the casket stopping in the vestibule as we all take a hand in soreadinf the white cloth over her casket then we slowly follow in we then sit in the front row as pastor him stars the service talking about heaven and god and things like that soon were headed to the car and I sit in back with Noah and Wyatt as Lisa drives behind the hurse carrying my mother we get to her plot and we all get out my brother father uncles and step dad carry her to the plot setting her on the contraption they use to lower her down I sit in the front next to Noah Wyatt and Jamie and I sob as the pastor blesses her casket then they ask me to say a few words
