The distant buildings battled the sky for on the horizon as the others packed for the day ahead, I had an early day and I packed already. "I'm going hunting," I announced, Wilson looked up,
"Alone?" He asked,
"Yes." I answered,
"Are you sure? I'm nearly done packing, I could come." Jai offered,
"No, I want time to think." Muttered goodbyes followed me into the tall eucalypts of the bush.
A stick cracked behind me and I swung towards the noise, probably just my imagination, I thought, it happens all the time but just to be sure I jogged towards some trees that were thinner and more spaced. I heard multiple leaves crunch at once and a kangaroo hopped from the thick bushes and I threw my dagger with precise accuracy, hitting the kangaroo square in the throat, it fell and I went to collect my prey. "Nice catch Ree." A voice said from behind me, I whipped around and slammed him, he hit the ground with a thump and I fell with him, ready to wring his neck, no one called me Ree and got away with it. I had recognised the voice but couldn't place it, now I knew. He smiled, "You followed me."
"Yes, I did." He smiled and I really wanted to wipe it off his face with my fist,
"You shouldn't have, I could have killed you jai, I still could. Why are you here?" I demanded,
"I wanted to see if you would kill me," rain pounded the ground after he was finished,
"I'd have no trouble putting a bullet in your head." Okay, maybe I would have, I pushed the thoughts away, he's a pest,
"I doubt that," we were dripping wet where we sat across from each other,
"Whatever," I got up and collected my dagger, dragged my catch back and sat back down.
"I like you," he whispered.
