The Carton of Eggs

Annabelle hated being off schedule.

It wasn't so much the fact that she had to be out as it was the process to get her there. She had to plan her evening from start to finish with the timing precise, otherwise the whole plan could go south really quickly.

Waiting for Luke was even more nerve racking when she hadn't properly met him before this moment. Sure, there were those two times related to the coffee shoppe, but this time, it was going to be them outside of the coffee shoppe, doing things that friends do. Or maybe really good acquantences. Or  something like that...

She wasn't sure what it was, really.

"You're so much taller than I thought..." Luke said, startling her. She stared at what he was wearing, glad that she wasn't the only one who saw the need to dress like a ninja.

"You're telling me..." Annabelle didn't know how to respond. SHe was here on buisness anyway. "So did you bring the eggs?" She asked, watching him pull out two minicartons from each of his pockets.

"I hope you realize how many baby chickens we're wasting here." Luke said, slightly grinning.

"I hope you realize they were dead anyway." Annabelle rolled her eyes and gingerly opened the carton.

"Wait." Luke said, putting his had on her arm. "If we get caught, run. Ashton is waiting for us around the corner."

"Was that Chill Will from Brazil?" She asked, watching Luke move his hand back.

"Let's just get started.." Luke said, smiling.

It took them all of 12 minutes to empty both cartons because Annabelle constantly found something to laugh about. First, it was the sound that the eggs made. Next it was the fact that Luke's first throw didn't even hit the house. It landed just short of the front door. She watch as he attempted to play it off like that was his original plan, but she highly doubted that.

"So what now..." Annabelle asked after she had thrown the last egg, almost hitting a window. SHe was worried about cracking something other than an egg the whole time, but she realized how much she didn't care.

"I don't know... I didn't think this would happen, let alone something after." Luke looked at the house, admiring the job they had just done.

"Okay. Well I guess I'll see you around, then." Annabelle looked at the time on her phone and started walking home. Or in the general direction of home, anyway.

"Wait! At least let me walk you." Luke jogged to catch up to her.

This caused Annabelle to stop in her tracks.

"No." She said, turning to face him.

"No?" Under the dim street lamp, she could see the confusion on his face.

"No. I still don't know anything about you and I don't need you knowing where I live." She said, suddenly growing slightly cold towards him. She had dealt with this type of thing before. It was only a matter of time before he became clingy and she, being the person she was, would become just as attatched as he would, in the end.

"Oh. But we just..." She watched as he pointed to the house they just vandalized.

"Yeah. And that was fun. And I'm sure that was such a great bonding experiance, but..." She thought for a second on how to phrase her thoughts.

"It will only end badly." She finally said, watching Luke take half of a step back.

"Oh." He said. Annabelle thought she heard a slightly hurt tone, but it could've been just her.

Finally, Luke turned and walked in the other direction. Not once did he look back while Annabelle watched him. So she did the same thing.
