Annabelle hated waiting.

She didn't mind hanging out in one area, but when it got to the point where she was waiting for hours, unnecessarily, then she began to got annoyed.

After the 3rd hour, waiting on the doctors to wheel Ashton back was almost unbearable.

"So, tell me about your family." Luke said from his spot in the chair across the room.

Annabelle and Luke were waiting for Ashton to get out of surgery. He was supposed to be done in an hour or so, meaning Luke and Annabelle had time alone.

"Why do you want to know about my family?" Annabelle looked at the clock, showing it was almost 3 in the morning.

"I mean like what are your parents like? You don't really talk about them." He said, looking down at his feet. He gave up his window seat so Annabelle could lay down, meaning he was now sitting in the extremely uncomfortable recliner chair next to the wall separating the bathroom to the rest of the room.

Annabelle was very appreciative of this.

"Well right now, neither of them are talking to me." Annabelle said, adjusting her blanket.

"Oh."

"Yeah. Today my mom told me she hates how much of a burden I am to her, sometimes. And then she left. And you know about my dad, of course."

Annabelle wasn't sure how he was Luke was handling this. He had this blank look on his face while she was telling him this, which made her immediately regret saying anything in general.

"I mean, I texted her to say where I was and she only said 'ok.' So here I am." Annabelle looked up at the TV so she wouldn't have to look at Luke. She wasn't sure how he was handling this.

"It's actually pretty nice here, if you take out all the random sound of wheels and the whiny kid in the next room over." Luke finally said something, partially putting Annabelle's mind at ease.

There was a weird silence, allowing Annabelle to realize how tired she truly was. She felt her eyelids starting to close but she kept them open in her attempt to stay awake longer.

"You're not a burden, you know." Luke mumbled, somewhat.

"Hmm?" Annabelle was still staring at the TV. It was some early morning Infomercial with bad acting.

"To me. You're not a burden."

"Yeah, okay." Annabelle rolled her eyes. She had heard that many times before.

There was another silence filled with the sound of the TV. The infomercial was so bad that Annabelle almost considered ordering the plastic containers out of pity for the company.

"I'm serious." Luke said, staring directly at Annabelle. He wasn't saying it out of pity, honestly. He thought she would want to hear something positive from someone.

Annabelle was quiet. She looked over to Luke and instantly regretted the decision. He looked so serious and she honestly didn't want to believe him right now.

"I think this touching moment deserves some ice cream." Annabelle finally said.

"I'm just trying to let you know that I won't desert you."

A.N.

I feel like I haven't written an A.N. in a while.

So hello.

I don't think this counts as a double update but it's a really close update to my other one so woo hoo.
