"You know, it really is sad looking at them like this. I can't help but wonder what it feels like to be that scared." The four people in the room stared at the body like it was a dead pet. They were sad that it was gone, but were eager to move onto the next one. "What about the soul? Did you get it?"
Damien looked up and smiled. He was now dressed and lifted the side of his shirt up to expose his side. On the area where his ribs poked out, there were several tattoos. The last one looked the newest, its ink freshly done. "Isn't it amazing how fast the tattoos appear after taking the soul?" asked Damien. The other four nodded. "How many do you have now, Damien?" one of them asked. Damien didn't have to look. He was proud of his acclompishments, and knew exactly the number of souls that he had collectd. "This one makes the thirteenth."
"You know," said Kristian, stepping forward," this game was fun while it lasted. I'm just sad that I didn't get the soul." Damien laughed. "Kristian, you know that only the purest souls can be absorbed. That is why it took us so long to find Asher Gracen. Pure souls are very far and few in between. But absorbing them is better than anything you can ever experience." Damien thought for a minute. "But I'm sure you're time will come eventually," he explained to the boy. "When I pass on, perhaps you will be the next chosen leader of the coven. But who knows, it could be any of you. And, as you know, only the leader can absorb the souls." They all nodded together. "Yes, we know," they replied.
Two arms wrapped around Damien from the back, and he reached his amrs up over his head to ruffle the person's hair. A soft kiss was planted on Damien's cheek, and he smiled even larger, returning the kiss. "Vex, look at us," Damien said. "How can this get any better?"
Vex huffed. "It would be better if we had more coven members," he said, his arms still wrapped around Damien's body. All of the people nodded. "It was a shame that the young boy and girl's bodies rejected the change. I guess they just weren't stable enough for Vampirism. It takes a strong soul to be able to absorb souls. And it also takes a strong soul to be able to live off of blood." They all laughed.
Damien looked down at Asher's dead body, but felt nothing inside. "It almost would have been nice, though, if he had been able to change." "Don't be ignorant," said Luka," you know that if you absorb someone's soul then they can't become a Vampire." Damien nodded. "Yes, I know. It's too bad, though, really."
He looked over at Vex, Kristian, and Luka. "It was a good act that you three and Hanna put on at that warehouse. It was actually very believable. If I was a naive human as he, I probably would have believed that you could die from mere bullets also."
Luka walked forward towards the others. "Well, we have the soul. We might as well move on to our next victim." They all agreed in unison. "Victim is such a cruel word, don't you think?" asked Damien, beginning to walk towards the door. "I much prefer to call them 'test subjects'." The group laughed.
"Darling," Kristian called into the hallway," you can see his body one last time before we leave and meet up with Hanna for our next victim." The boy walked into the room, his shaggy brown hair swaying gently. He was so graceful, yet so clumsy. His tall, broad body towered over the bed as he stared at the dead body of Asher Gracen. The rest of them, after taking a few minutes to look at his body, left, Damien and Vex holding hands and kissing, and Luka strolling out with his hands in his pockets. Kristian turned to leave, and when he got to the door, he stopped. "Mitch, my love, come on. We mustn't be late."
Mitch looked at him with loving eyes. "Go on, my sweet. I'll be down in a moment. I just need a moment alone with him." "But," Kristian began," Mitch, he was just another victim. It isn't like he was any more special than the rest." Mitch nodded. "I know, love." Kristian paused for moment, but nodded and left the room after blowing Mitch a kiss.
He looks even more beautiful in death, Mitch thought. I can't believe what is front of me. Asher's hair was sprawled around his head like a halo where he lie on the bed. His pale, naked skin now rivaled Damien's in color, and he looked like a famous painting to Mitch.
Mitchel leaned down close to Asher's ear and breathed heavily. "I'm sorry this had to happen to you, Asher Gracen." He stood there for a moment, not knowing what else to say. "This was the best deathly love I could have asked for."
As the sun shone brightly through the window, turning his brown eyes to an amber color, Mitch leaned in closer. "Goodbye, Asher. I really did love you."
He kissed Asher's forehead and stood back up. A tear threatened to escape his eye, but he wiped it away before it had a chance to. He turned and walked out of the room and, after a few seconds, out of the house.
The others were wating for him in the driveway of the looming mansion. "I'm going to miss this house," said Damien. "I had such fun making up stories about it." They all laughed but Mitch.
All of the boys got into their cars and began to drive down the hill into the sun. Before pulling out, Mitch looked at the window of the room Asher was in one last time. This truly was it; this was the end of it all. Mitch knew that to everyone else, Asher Gracen would live on as a tattooed soul on Damien's side, but to him, he was his soul mate. This made Mitch long his never arriving death even more.
"I'm so sorry," he whispered under his breath," that I lied to you, Asher Gracen."
This time, he let the tears roll down his face one by one. You never really know how hard it is to leave the one that you love until the time comes. But when it does, you would rather die than go through it.
Mitch stared up at the window with such pain that his heart began to phyhsically ache. "I'm yours. Forever,"he whispered.
After crawling into his small beat up car, he pulled down the hill and didn't look back as he dreaded the rest of eternity.
