Having to deal with my mother's teasing was one thing, however my dad's over protectiveness was another. It would be more of an issue for Gary then me, it was still embarassing to watch though.
"It's nice to meet you." Gary extended his hand and my father shook it, however you could see on his face that he was quite hesidsnt about the teenage boy.
"You kids better not stay out too late." My father said seriously. "But have fun. See ya kiddo."
"Sorry. He's intense. He likes to act scary. He's a nice guy though." I said to Gary as we got in my truck.
"Ever since Ryder he's a little protective. Don't take it personally Gary."
"Yeah I get it." Gary said quietly, and played with the radio. "I'm gonna get him back for what he did to you yknow."
Sighing, I forced a smile. "You don't have to do that. He's gonna be after you now. I know he's been after Ronnie for damn near half a decade now."
So far, this was the best date I'd ever been on. I'd dragged Gary on all the scary roller coasters, made sure to before we got cotton candy. The comedic part of the day came when Gary had gotten chased by a raccoon. It had everyone there freaked out, I was lucky my date had the same sense of humour as me.
The real awkwardness was on the fairis wheel. It had stopped when we were at the top. By now, the sun was setting, it's true what they say. Time flies when you're having fun. I clutched the giant stuffed animal he had one for me a few hours earlier. "Somethin on your mind Rossington? You seem a little nervous, you aren't afraid of heights now are you?"
"No." He answered rather matter of factorly, but still was rather nervous, even when the fairis wheel started moving and we wen' t as high up anymore. "Kennedy can I ask you something?"
"Yeah of course." I lightly touched his hand, awaiting the question.
"Would you wanna...maybe go out again? And uh..."
A smile formed on my face. "You know Rossington. You ain't so bad." With that, he leaned in and kissed me. "And I'd love to be your one and only."
