"Apparently Crystal is just bout done with pretty much all of us." I scanned the tall maple trees that stood infront of me. Swinging myself onto one to the branches, I lit up a cigarette. "I guess I can see why though."

"Well you know how Ronnie gets." Gary sighed and shrugged, leaning against the tree. "And when he started going after you I'd had it."

"I just don't want her going through what I did. I say this over and over again but Ryder doesn't just go away. He watches his prey like a hawk until he finds them the most vulnerable. Then he strikes." Following that sentence, I took a drag off my cigerette, continuing to swing on the tree branch.

"Baby you did everything you could." Gary wrapped his arms around me, pulling me down from the branch and holding me bridal style, pecking my lips.

"But everything I could wasn't enough. She's way under his spell. Maybe things will change once he's graduated."

I knew this was a sensitive subject, Gary told me he was planning on dropping out soon.

"Yeah." He replied lowley, kissing the top of my head. "C'mon I know what'll make you feel better. Ice cream."

"You sure know how to make a girl happy."

The afternoon proved eventful. Perhaps almost falling asleep in a tire swing didn't prove it, but that was only from pure exhaustion. Kayden and Gary were playing with Bethany in the front yard. I only was taken back into concusnious and became aware of the events once I heard tires screeching and a scream. On impact, I charged to the front yard.

"Kayden get inside." Gary said. Kayden, in tears obeyed. Now looking to me, both the driver of the car and I began to became frantic.

"I'm taking her to the vet. Gary come with me."

The trip to the office was quiet with the exception of Bethany's cries in pain coming from the backseat.

"Please say you can do something! Please say you can save her." My begging and pleading did nothing. The vet looked over our dog, and delivered us the horrible news.

The goodbyes were the most painful thing I've ever been through, but part of me felt that nothing compared to seeing Kayden cry when he found out. It just seemed the world had stopped spinning.
