The next morning I woke up hoping it was Thursday, but unfortunately I had to make it through Wednesday first. When I first got up and walked into the kitchen to make some coffee, just to see a pot already made with a note next to it.

The note said-

I know I told you that we didn't have plans for the rest of the week, but something went wrong with a client and I needed to attend to it immediately. I should be back by late tonight, if not then it's because the problem was bigger than I expected. You are fine to still go out on Thursday, and like me telling you not to in this note would have stopped you. No matter what, I will be back for your birthday.

---Master Jake

I smiled about that last part in the note saying I would still go out to town because it was true. He knows that once I have my mind set on something, there's no stopping me. I think it's kind of funny because he said in training that he knew when I had made a decision because my eyes would light up just a hair before I made my move, ending the match.

After I read the note, I poured myself a cup of coffee and say down on the back porch looking around at the wilderness. It is just so peaceful in the morning; no vehicles driving by or people walking around nosily. It is just perfect out here.

I finished the coffee and set it down on the small table next to the chair. I walked over to the woods and started looking for my favorite tree, the tallest one. I was about ten feet into the woods when I found it, I grabbed onto the bottom branch and pulled myself up. I started climbing till I reached a few feet away from the top. The branches any higher wouldn't be able to hold me because they were too skinny.

Then, I looked at the view. It was just forest after forest till you saw a small area where the town was. It was about ten miles out from our home and you could barely see it from here, but it was always nice to look. It always gave me a little hope that there was still others beside me and Jake. But, I saw something unusual, there was something big moving through the forest toward out cottage. It looked short of like a car? Tractor? Just when I thought I could make it out, I got a call on my phone from Jake.

"Are you home?" he asks into the phone breathless.

"I'm in the tallest tree looking over at the town. Do you know what the thing is heading our way?" I asked worried.

"It's a truck full of royal guards. One of our trusted assassins got caught last night and was put under questioning."

"Well, what do I do? There are too many for me to take on. If they find me, I won't be able to hold out against them for long."

"I need you to stay in that tree until you know you can leave and make it to the town safely. Looks like you'll be spending your time in town differently than you thought."

"Ok, I've got to go. They're almost to the house."

"Be safe Selena. I don't know what I would do with myself if you didn't make it." he said right before he hung up.

Looks like it's up to me to figure a way out of this tree and safely to town. Let the adventure begin.
