Alba POV
I drift back into consciousness and don't recognize a thing. I don't gasp - that would draw attention and that's the last thing I need - but I turn so I can look around. I come face to face with Eoin and almost jump out of my skin.
"Morning." He smiles and I nod uncertainly, glancing down. I blush and try to cover my tatty bra, but Eoin hands me a huge Sick Puppies shirt silently. I pull it on quickly and swallow.
"Th-thank you." I stammer; how exactly did I end up in bed with Eoin?
"D'you remember anything from yesterday?" Eoin asks gently; I chew my lip as I think and my heart stops.
"I-I-I...them?" I choke and Eoin looks down. "And I didn't hit any of them?!" I'm disgusted with myself. I've dreamt of a moment like that for years, and when it comes I'm not strong enough to deck at least one of them.
"No, but y'definitely gave 'em a scare if that helps." Eoin smiles faintly and I remember shouting in the middle of that god awful halfway house mam used to hide in.
"Aye, but I cried." I remember, my face falling.
Whimp. Now they're gonnae think you're just a pathetic wee lass who cannae look after herself. God, I hate that voice. Why doesn't she ever shut the hell up?
"I think that's what scared 'em." Eoin laughs and I glance around curiously.
"Where are we?" I ask as I slip out the bed.
"My house." Eoin replies and I gape at him.
"But this room's like the size of the whole halfway house." My voice comes out strangled and Eoin smirks. Ugh, I hate smirking.
"Yeah, well it's not exactly mine..." He trails off as I go to the hole in the granite wall. We're surrounded by water, but I can see the forest that my old h-
"This is Loch Leven Castle." I state as Eoin comes and stands next to me.
"Yup." He pops the 'p' and I grin at him.
"I've always wanted to get here, but I'm-" I stop quickly. Don't go opening yourself up like an idiot Alba, I remind myself sternly. Eoin stares at me with a weird look on his face and I shift uncomfortably.
"Why're y'so scared t'open up t'me?" He murmurs and I stare out the window, thinking of my mam's song.
"Because love has a nasty habit of disappearing overnight." I tell him as I tear myself away from the window and out into the corridor. The cold air hits me and I feel my inner radiator crank up the heat. Sometimes wolf blood isn't that bad, not that I'd ever admit that aloud.
"Alba, d'you no' remember what I said t'you last night?" Eoin demands as he appears in front of me; I jump back and whip around. How the hell did he do that?!
"No, I barely remember getting here!" I tell Eoin as I try to find the front door or the back door or any door that'll get me the hell away from here. I can do just fine on my own - I've been doing it for years, why should it change now?
"I told y'that I'd never take advantage of you." Eoin shouts after me and I laugh until I'm choking on tears.
"Like I'd believe that." I whisper as I find a door and force it open. I stumble onto the grass and inhale the smell of soil before jumping onto my feet and crunching through the snow until I'm at the shoreline of the tiny island.
How you gonna do this one Hydrophobe! My brain cackles and I glower at my reflection in the water.
"Alba!" Eoin appears next to me and I jump.
