Eoin's POV
I stare at Alba, her entire body screams 'TERROR' and her lips are moving quickly. Her eyes snap open as the tree shakes.
"You can always smell a Fife!" The guy shouts and Alba presses herself closer to the tree trunk, taking deep breaths.
"Crusher?" She calls and I smash my hand over her mouth. She looks at me, terrified, and I shake my head quickly.
"Get down here Fife. You've got a debt to pay." The voice - Crusher - laughs and it makes my skin crawl. I stare at Alba and jump. Her eyes are guarded and her muscles are tenses for a fight - she looks like someone who has been alone for far too long. She bites my hand and I yank it back instinctively. In that second, she darts off the branch and lands with surprising grace on all fours in the snow.
"Hello Crusher." Alba's voice is smooth and emotionless - she's good at hiding her thoughts. I suppose growing up in a house off mutts that can read your mind makes you good at hiding a lot of things.
"Fife." The guy is a lot taller than her, but she looks like she could take him easily in a fight.
"How'd you find me?" Alba asks him flatly and the guy snorts.
"Since when do I let you in on my secrets Fife?" He replies and she keeps her face blank.
"Whatever." She says flatly and the guy runs a finger down her spine.
"I've missed you Fife." He murmurs and I watch Alba carefully for a reaction. Jesus, she is good at hiding.
Too good, the voice mutters and for one, I don't tell him to shove it.

Alba's POV
I feel Jack's hand on my back and I'm glad I've already had my pride crushed. If I hadn't, this would be humiliating. I know Eoin's pissed - it doesn't take a genius - that I bit him and came down here, but he doesn't know Jack Claw Crusher like I do. He'd find me anyway.
"I've missed you Fife." He whispers against my neck and I swallow, my throat feels like sandpaper. I move away from Crusher Jack carefully and stare at his black eyes.
"What do you want, Crusher?" I demand, narrowing my eyes.
"I want you to pay your debt Fife." Crusher says, all traces of tenderness gone.
"What do you want from me Crusher? You know I'm skint." I know I've given away my suspicion, but I don't care. Crusher wants something and he knows he'll get it eventually.
"I want you." Crusher hisses. "You could be valuable Fife." Crusher snaps and I shake my head.
"No I couldn't Crusher. What could I d-" I break off and stare at him. "You didn't?" I choke and he nods, grinning devilishly.
"I made the perfect fighter genes. And I've seen you're endurance Fife, you could have these kids without dying." Crusher tells me; my face twists slightly in shock.
"You're insane!" I shout and Crusher has me against the tree before I can blink. His hand covers my mouth.
"Who taught you how to pick a lock? Who taught you to fight right? Who put a fucking roof over your head?" Crusher lists, venom in his eyes. I swallow.
"You did." I whisper, my throat tightening.
"And who disappeared in the night and left me alone in bed?" Crusher breathes in my ear.
"I-I did." I struggle to breathe and Crusher moves his hand and kisses me softly. Tears fill my eyes and they fall down my cheeks and cling to my eyelashes, cold as ice.
