"We're looking for two physically fit males in their late thirties," Hotch began with the profile, his hands hidden in the pockets of his dress pants. "It's important you know that we believe them to be former members of a crime syndicate called The Night Stalkers," he said. "While it seems like their trail has gone cold, we have reasons to believe that they have been operating from underground for the last couple of years. For now, it looks like the unsubs are trying to frame them, possibly because they feel betrayed and are now driven by their anger."
The lead detective — Stefanie had said something about Anderson being his name — raised his hand in question. "You really think this is an organized crime case?" He asked.
"We do, yes!"
Derek took over. "Both unsubs are alpha males," he said. "They're not the typical duo of dominant and submissive that we usually see in these types of cases," he loosened his arms from being crossed to using them to gesticulate. "And neither of them have a family or steady job," he stated then. "That will help you narrow it down."
Skylar felt uncomfortable with the entire police department staring at her, but she figured now or never, and with a reassuring smile from Spencer, she stepped forward. "They probably come from a lower class neighborhood," she said. "At least one of them has a criminal background. However, our primary target right now should be finding Tucker Bailey alive and well."
Spencer cleared his throat. His territory, she thought. Noted.
"They each have their own MO, which is a very odd dynamic considering the circumstances, but not entirely impossible," his explanation, as casual as he worded it, still sounded like the smartest thing any human being could've said. He certainly didn't get enough credit for that, Skylar believed. "Alone the use of an ax and the strangulation of the daughter indicates that the unsubs have a plan of their own that doesn't directly involve The Night Stalkers," he said.
She followed every single word leaving his lips, intrigued, curious and incredible impressed. All at once. His intelligence seemed almost alien. She didn't know many smart people, although she barely knew anyone, so that wasn't actually a valuable point.
"Like Agent Morgan said, the unsubs are strict alpha males," said Skylar. "they have a need for power that TNS couldn't satisfy anymore, so they decided to create their own mission."
JJ gave an attentive nod. "This mission is most likely to abduct children of former TNS members," she said, "though we're not entirely sure why yet. We believe that's how this duo perfected their MO. It's very unlikely that this was their first time doing this."
"What about the cocaine you got from the crime scene?" Detective Anderson asked.
Emily was the one to answer this time. "While we believe it plays a role in the murders, it's not a huge one," she said. "But our technical analyst is already working on that as we speak."
