The Behavioral Analysis Unit gets called in to assist on a serial killer case in New York. That's where they meet Special Agent Skylar Brown, a former military recruit with a past guarded better th...

Skylar paced the hospital lobby, her phone pressed between shoulder and ear. Hotch's faint voice sounded through the speaker at the bottom, though his words were rather inaudible to any bystanders trying to listen in on the conversation.
"Alright," she said with a nod, "Thanks for the update, Hotch."
The doors to the lobby swung open. Spencer stepped out, Michael followed him with a visible distance. He behaved more carefully than usual, Skylar noted, mostly because of her. She could explode any second, dragging Spencer with her — probably, and her father wanted to protect himself. It was understandable yet extremely infuriating.
They strutted down the crowded hallway towards her. Spencer's lips broke into a smile once he saw her, but it faltered at her concerned expression.
"They're here now," she spoke into the phone. "Catch up with you soon. Bye." And then she hung up.
"What's wrong?" Spencer asked.
Michael joined the pair with visible distance. He knew he had overstepped before and vowed to never do it again. Skylar could see it in his eyes. The wheels in his head were turning, wheels that were connected loosely to his common sense, if he had any left. He felt guilty.
For once, she didn't feel bad for him. She didn't hope. She thought to herself that maybe, just maybe, he was going to come to his senses all on his own and if he didn't, she would simply leave it at that. She would never come back to him again because there were many people that deserved her faith, her kindness, and her love, but Michale Brown certainly wouldn't be one of them anymore.
"That was Hotch," Skylar clarified. "Still no update on the messages JJ and Morgan found though, but the two are on their way to the University now to check Timothy Franklin's dorm room."
"Is Garcia still on it?
"Yeah, but she says something is blocking her. I don't really speak computer-hacking, but I figure that's not a good sign."
"Oh."
"Yeah... Emily still believes that Timothy was the intended target all along and it seems that the entire BAU is rolling with it, so us three have got that direction to cover, too."
Michael raised his eyebrows. "How fast are you guys?" He asked.
Skylar deadpanned. "Fast!" She said. "Why? Would you have preferred if we waited a little bit longer?"
"No-"
"Then shut up and let us work!"
Spencer balled his hands. The tension between the two of them took a toll on him, too, even if he refused to show it. He wondered if Hotch had known what he was throwing him into when he had made the decision. If he had known, Spencer really didn't want to find out what else he had in store for him.
