The spot where Skylar had stood on just a few seconds ago was empty. Her steps steadily disappeared into the hallway, glass doors swinging open and then they banged shut as she stormed out. Many eyes followed her just like they had witnessed her sudden outburst.
The BAU stood in a vertical line. They didn't even dare to move a muscle. Skylar had caused quite the scene and it was concerning for obvious reasons. Having a bad temper was one thing, but an outburst just like this one indicated a temper beyond that.
Skylar had serious anger issues and that became more and more evident with every day that she worked at the Behavioral Analysis Unit.
Morgan parted his lips. "Damn," he said. That's all that could've been said. He was at a loss for words, as was each and every single one of his colleagues.
Michael stared down at his feet, then looked back up again, and said, "Yeah, sorry about that."
Sorry didn't even remotely cut it.
"What did I just witness?" Garcia asked, and the gasp got stuck between her lips. Her eyes teared up. "Is she— is she okay?" She asked.
Emily shrugged. If only she knew. "I honestly didn't see that coming," she admitted sheepishly.
Skylar was an enigma; there seemed to be no possibility of ever really knowing her throughly enough. Never thoroughly enough to predict a pattern of behavior, at least. And after spending some time with her, Emily realized that the girl had too many layers to unwrap. Too many layers she yet had to shed. If anyone wanted to reach the center, they had to reach deeply into her soul. But Skylar would never let anyone close enough to do that.
Of course, she had asked Emily to spend some time together, but even after going out for coffee (they were interrupted, mind you), she was still holding back. Emily figured she wouldn't get to the bottom unless Skylar really wanted to.
The new girl didn't want others to know her, for whatever reasons. Garcia knew the truth without having to speak much. Hotch knew. Erin Strauss knew. Right now, even Michael knew. They all knew something about Skylar the others didn't, something she never talked about because bringing it up again could possibly break her completely. Her history explained so much about her behavior, but without the explanation, the ones unknown of her past stood in front of a big puzzle that they couldn't solve.
Take Spencer, for example. He was in a constant state of worry about his friend. While he knew she kept secrets from him, he understood she didn't want to tell him. How long he could stay unbothered though, he didn't know. He wanted for her to open up and he questioned her trust in him, but Skylar had something about her he couldn't shake.
