Percy's POV

All was quiet when Annabeth and I walked onwards. There were monsters roaring in the background, but they were far away. Water drops from high up fell and hit the ground slowly, making a faint noise.

I held my breathe for a moment, listening intently. Was it normal for Tartarus to be quiet ever so often? Very quiet?

"Something's wrong." Annabeth hissed beside me, and my hand immediately went to my pocket, where Riptide was.

Usually, if Annabeth could sense that something was wrong, she was usually right. Something was wrong.

"What is it?" I asked.

Annabeth looked around quickly, holding her breathe. "I don't know." She breathed quietly.

I looked around too, but saw nothing. I also heard nothing. It was so quiet.

I suddenly heard a distant sound. Annabeth must've heard it too, because I saw her breathe in sharply.

It sounded like.....hooves? It almost sounded like Chiron. But I knew that Chiron wouldn't be here.

I got out Riptide and waited for the thing to actually appear before I did anything else. Beside me, Annabeth was muttering something to herself, her eyes darting around the cave as far as she could see.

The clip-clop sound slowly got louder and I was prepared to fight. But what actually appeared was a......deer?

"What are you?" I asked.

The deer turned around and observed me quietly. I assumed that it couldn't speak.

"What do you do to get a deer to speak?" I asked Annabeth quietly.

"I don't know." Annabeth hissed back, staring at the deer.

"Are there any kinds of monsters that can change into deers?" I asked.

Annabeth bit her lip. "This reminds me of something.....but I can't really remember what."

I uncapped Riptide. The deer stood still, still looking at me with its very dark eyes.

"Got a plan, Seaweed Brain?" Annabeth hissed at me, before I started charging at the deer.

I shook my head. "What can you do? You can't make it talk."

The deer walked closer to me, and I was prepared to fight. But it simply stopped right in front of me.

"What do you want?" I asked, looking at the deer. I was convinced that this deer was not at all what it seemed.

The deer looked at me once more before turning around and galloping everywhere. It almost seemed like it was floating.

It stopped right in front of something, and I hesitantly walked over to see what it was.

A bow and arrow.

Why would a bow and arrow be here? In Tartarus? Did someone provide the monsters down here weapons daily or something?

But as I stared at the bow and arrow, a thought started to form inside my head. I remembered something that I had learnt a long time ago.

"Annabeth?" I called out.

"Yes?" She replied.

"I know what this deer is." I stated, still staring at the bow and arrow.

"You do? What is it?" Annabeth asked, and I could hear her walking towards me. She stopped right beside me and followed my gaze. Her eyes widened, looking at the deer.
