Because why not.

TRIGGER WARNING--SUICIDAL THOUGHTS

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The first time Sophie heard the voices, she was eight.
Her mother was thinking about Sophie in the other room. No matter how hard Sophie tried to block out the insults from her own mother, it couldn't be helped.
I wish she was just normal.
Maybe she would be less of a freak.
I shouldn't be thinking like this about my own daughter.
But it's true.
Sophie got up from the couch and ran up the stairs to her room.
She would be happy if you were gone.
Sophie jumped at the thought. Did she... Just think that? Of her own demise?
She didn't get the chance to think on it before Amy came knocking on her door to play.
~~~~~~~~~~~

The second time, she was ten.

The thoughts of freshman high schoolers reverberated in her head as Sophie wished there were such things as thought-cancelling headphones or something.

There was a girl who had been nice to her that morning and gave Sophie a pencil when she realized she forgot hers at home.

Maybe she would get a friend, Sophie hoped.

Little leech, taking my pencil.

Know-it-all freak, trying to talk to me.

She isn't wanted here.

Sophie's head dropped to her desk as she heard the words.

Nobody would notice if you just disappeared.

Sophie was less surprised to hear her own voice this time.

She gave back the girl's pencil.

The girl didn't even spare her a glance.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
The voices had become regulars in her head.
She walked with her head down, and thoughts of others started to get overshadowed by her own thoughts.
You should just disappear.
Nobody would miss you.
In fact, they would be happy.
Or just not notice.
Remember how the easiest way to die is jumping?
Jump.
Nobody would miss you.
Disappear.
Sophie put in her earbuds to drown out the noise.
She closed her eyes, her view of a giant dinosaur model turning to black.
~~~~~~~~~

The thoughts hadn't gone away.

After years in the Lost Cities, with new friends, kind and amazing parents, and an overall accepting school, the voices never went away.

Jump.

They won't miss you.

Disappear.

It will be easy.
