"Alright, listen up Forklenator! You better give me ALL the information you possibly can on Foster's whereabouts or so help me I will--"

"Here you go, Mr. Sencen. All the information is on this sheet of paper. Just make sure you take Queen Romhilda with you, I see you've already left her behind."

Keefe looked around, realizing that Ro was indeed not there.

Now that he thought about it, he hadn't seen Ro in days. Huh.

"Yeah okay Forky just give me the freaking paper and then I'll go bye-bye. With Ro of course."

"Alright, Mister Sencen. Just don't do anything too impulsive."

"Just hand it over!"

Forkle wordlessly gave the paper to Keefe, who promptly leaped home to look for Ro, because Foster would want him to.

When he located the Queen, who had been in the closet for three days to see when Keefe would find her, Keefe stole Fitz's Pathfinder and leaped to Harvard.

Forkle also found the exact room number Sophie was staying in.

Keefe decided that he shouldn't go inside the girls dorms building, but should instead find Sophie's room from the outside.

That's how he ended up climbing up a ten-story building looking for a room on the sixth floor with Ro hissing at him to come down from below. YOLO, I guess.

Sophie POV

Foster sat staring at the wall. What could she do to trigger another memory?

She thought of all the possible things she could do. Maybe she could--

Foster was interrupted by knocking. She got up, frustrated, and checked her peephole. Nobody there.

Knock Knock Knock

The knocking was not coming from her door, Foster realized, but the window.

It was nighttime. Should she turn around and check the window?

It was a 50-50 chance that she could be in a horror movie and it's a creepy monster.

Foster took the chance.

She slowly turned around and peeked at the window.

Oh my God.

Keefe from the Past was staring at her from the other side of the glass. He looked nothing like her memories, more gaunt and tired, but his smirk was still intact as he winked at her.

Sophie stood there, open-mouthed.

Wait, Sophie?

Keefe stared at her, then made a gesture like, well, are you going to let me in?

"Oh!" Sophie rushed over to the window, opened it, and pulled the shaky boy in.

Keefe promptly sighed loudly and collapsed onto the ground.

"Hey, Foster! How have you been?"

"You're Keefe! From the past!"

Keefe made a confused face at her. "The... Past?"

"Yeah, you know, all the memories I lost!"

"Oh, right, Forkle told me about that! Well, I guess I was so focused on seeing you again that I wasn't really listening." Keefe winked at Sophie, making her blush.

"You never listen anyway, boy!" A faint voice was heard from outside the window.

Sophie rushed over and looked down.

"Keefe, that thing isn't human!" Sophie shrieked, backing away.

"Well, neither are you," Keefe and Thing answered in unison.

"We're not human, Sophie."

"Oh. Oh wait! Ro!" Sophie rushed back to the window to look at her ogre friend. "Hey, Ro!"

"Hey, girl! Poor elfy boy over here has been driving himself crazy for years looking for you! I don't think he even showered for like--"

"ANYWAY!" Keefe shouted, slamming the window shut. Sophie giggled.

"Keefe. You always called me Foster. You have me the necklace, and almost killed yourself a bunch of times. And I love you. Right?"

Keefe stared at her, eyes wide. His face slowly turned tomato red.

"Ehhhhhhh?" Was heard as Keefe stumbled into the other room.

A couple seconds later, he came right back, looking bewildered. "Uhhuh... But don't you like Fitz?"

Sophie thought. "Fitz is... Who again?"

Keefe coughed. "The hot guy with the teal eyes?"

Sophie thought. She remembered the teal eyes from the memory with the "Are you lost?" And how her heart fluttered.

"Oh yeahhh! The guy with the fluttery heart!"

"Yeah, that guy," Keefe said, visibly trying not to laugh. "And he's your cognate."

"But we're cognates!"

"But WE'RE COGNATES!"

"bUt wE'rE cOgNaTeS!"

"Ohh! I remember a voice screaming 'but we're cognates' over and over again! Is that Fitz?"

Keefe exploded in laughter. Tears running down his face, rolling on the floor, the whole enchilada. After he calmed down a little, he said "yes. That was DEFINITELY Fitzipoo."

Keefe smiled at Sophie. A real smile.  "I really missed you, Foster."

"As far as I can tell, I definitely missed you too, Keefe."

"If ya wanna hug, I showered just for you, Foster."

Sophie didn't hesitate to run over and wrap her arms around the taller boy.

"You got taller!"

"Well, you were gone for a pretty long time." Keefe's chest rumbled with his voice and he sounded kind of sad. Sophie hugged him tighter.

A memory popped into Sophie's head.

A strained voice said, "don't worry, breathing is overrated."

"It is," Sophie said, refusing to loosen her grip.

Back then, Sophie took Keefe for granted, she knew. She would never do that again.

"Let's go home, Keefe."

"Fine by me."

Sophie broke the embrace and twined her fingers with his. She and Keefe smiled at each other as he raised a Chrystal to the light.

"Oh shoot, Sandor is gonna lecture you SO bad!"

"Oh no, you're right!" But Sophie didn't mind a bit as she and Keefe stepped into the light and let it whisk them back home.

Ro cared, though.

"Did those two just leave me here?"
