I'm immediately overwhelmed with kisses on the cheeks, and people rapidly speaking Italian and Spanish all around me.
"Suficiente! Ella no habla español o italiano. Solo inglés y francés." (Enough! She doesn't speak Spanish or Italian. Only English and French.)They all go quiet.
"Thank you." I look around the large open patio, each family member smiling brightly at me. I stumble a little, and feel Jax's hand steady on my lower back.
"Hi.. everyone. I'm Brianna." The chatter starts up again.
"Lets eat!""Hey. Thanks for that," I say to Jax as we dig into the meal. "I'm a little-"
"Overwhelmed. I know. But you can relax now, you're safe here and I'm never going to let anything happen to you again." Jax places a reassuring hand on my leg. I looked around the large table, the Vitolanti family chatter buzzing around in the air.I have a feeling this family won't ever let anything bad happen to me ever. After dinner I clear my plate and go to join some of the family that are cleaning up in the kitchen, when I'm grabbed from around the waist.
"Nuh uh uh. Where do you think you're going?" I twist out of Jax's grip."It's called helping Jax. You should come join me. Don't let the abuela's and nonna's do all the work." He laughs.
"But that's their job." I smack his arm.
"Woman aren't the only gender capable of doing dishes idiota. Now get in there." He doesn't move. I cross my arms and give him a boy try me look."Get. Your a** in there and help your family." Jax bites his lip.
"Dios te amo tu." (God I love you.) He kisses my cheek and walks off."That boy is in love." I turn to see Eleonora with her hands grasped behind her back.
"Hi Eleonora."
"You two have come a long way. I remember a few months ago at the gala you two were very unsure of your feelings." I smile.
"He did slip the engagement ring on- oh my god. The wedding?! So much has gone on that-" Eleonora puts her hands on my shoulders."You let me handle things hija." She walks away and I hear her muttering in Spanish. "Ese hijo mío es mejor que haga una propuesta adecuada antes de casarse." (That son of mine better do a proper proposal before he gets married.) I really need to learn Spanish.
