After trudging a long way into the woods, we finally reached a huge wood house into the dark wilderness. The doors opened into a creepy song, revealing a massive interior that could have been mistaken by that of a huge mansions' interior. I gaped at it for a good minute when I bore my eyes completely into the house.
It was all made of clouds but it all looks real!
My foot hovered over a cloud made door rug for a second or two as I debated with myself whether I would fall if I stepped on it and if I did fall, where would I end up at? I stole a glance at Martha who was probably thinking the same thing as she looked around and down at her feet. My eyes strayed back to my own feet and then something caught my eye. Something was written on the cloud rug.
Welcome to the land of dreams! Where dreams come true...
I nodded at it when suddenly Phoebeter, the God of Nightmare nudged me forward and said, "Its real. You won't fall."
Where dreams come true....
Very carefully, I took a small step on the cloud step and the rug, and was surprised to find the solid surface beneath my feet. Martha's hand absentmindedly found mine and held onto it as she stepped forward and into huge mansion.
The walls extended all the way as far as the eye could see and there was nothing much to do other than to stare at it dumbfounded. It took me a minute to realize that there were no walls. It was just a thin envelop of white and blue clouds creatively designed into pillars and walls, surrounding us on each side. I had to touch one of them to make sure that I wasn't hallucinating.
It felt like touching a foamy soapy brick of soap and then suddenly the structure of the cloud changes. I jerked my hand back in panic as the wall moved like it was a wave of water. I heard someone laugh and saw another man standing at the other end of the corridor. A shiver ran down my spine.
"It changes with your imagination. Be sure to think good things." He winked at me and I audibly gasped when the clouds around me darkened into a shade of grey. "I am Phantasos, by the way. Hello little sister, how are you?"
"Pleasure meeting you, brother!" Martha beamed at him, her eyes wide and round with curiosity.
If I wasn't so scared because of what had happened in the woods and if we were not along with two other Gods of dreams, I would have slimed her with my kisses. Why is she so cute?
I realized that I had been smiling at her too long now when Phoebeter waved a hand in front of my eyes and Martha blushed. I shook my head and grinned as I continued walking inside. For all the good it did, the mansion had turned back to a heavenly beautiful place with white blue cloud pillars surrounding us as if like a corridor.
We entered a huge room that smelled of cotton candies and looked baby blue. "Morpheus will be with us in a minute." Phantasos said and ushered us towards a pink sofa which was a huge cloud itself.
"Where is everyone else?" I whispered into Martha's ears and she shrugged.
It was when Phantasos turned around a little, his back facing us when I saw that he had big cloudy wings shaped into various feathers put together and two small horns emerging from the back of his ears. I craned my neck a little to see if Phoebeter has them too but then someone cleared his throat.
"Hello Martha and your mortal friend." He nodded at us with a scowl on his face. Then he looked at me and I realized that I was grimacing at him. He too has those horns and feathery cloudy wings. I straightened my posture. "I am Morpheus." He said in a raspy voice. He sounded like he is about to crack a bad news.
And I guess I am right. From a distance, I could hear the cawing of a crow.
"We can't help you, little sister. It would be best if you would just go." He said and I felt things shifting around me.
"What?" Martha voiced my mind.
"I know what you are up to and we won't let you do it!" He grits his teeth into a hard scowl and I tense up next to Martha.
The cawing grows.
"What are you talking about?" Martha frowned.
"Don't act so innocent. We should have known all along. You bring end, after all. But this time, everything will not end according to you, Martha!" He started shouting and heat rose inside me. I clenched my jaw angrily.
"Watch your mouth!" I stood up and his eyes flared out to me.
The room shifted around me and I felt Martha's clammy hand telling me to stop. "Get out of our house!" Phoebeter took a step towards us.
"Not unless you tell us why you won't help us in a respectable manner." I replied stubbornly.
"Austin, don't." Martha whispered in a rush but I couldn't care less.
"Leave or you will regret."
I shook my head stubbornly.
The sound of cawing grew on us and in an instant, the sky behind me darkens and the air fills with the sound of flapping voice. I duck, hands over my head, crying out as crows and many owls attack me and Martha.
"Can we panic now?" Martha screamed at me and I nodded frantically, taking her hand in mine and preparing to run away from the Gods of dreams and flapping black feathers.
The mansion shifted around us and the steps in front of us morphed into a slide. "Oh my God!" I heard Martha crying, when she slipped from my grip and slipped down the path. I panicked and jumped after her, hearing the cawing coming closer.
We fell on a bunch of broken branches at the very end of the path. The leaves rustled around us when suddenly a torch blinded my vision. "They are here!" Nyx said and got us up.
"Mother.." Martha sobbed. "They said-they said."
My chest tightened with anger, humility and a bunch of other murderous feelings.
"I know, child. I know. I wonder what you built!" She sighed and Martha softly sobbed.
"We need to go to Aphrodite." Martha declared and a shiver ran down my spine. I remembered her gaze, her spiteful smile and the words she said about Martha when she died.
"Yes, Martha. But first lets go back home." Lila cooed softly, rubbing Martha's hand possessively.
