Really not that happy with this chapter, but let me know what you think :)
The flight was pretty intense. Even though I was in business class, I still had to deal with everything that you would get in any class. Turbulence. I get pretty panicky when it happens, even though the chances of it causing any sort of accident, the thought still runs through my mind. There was also a baby onboard in business and the crying could still be heard through my earphones, no matter how hard I tried to drown it out.
A part from the few negatives, it was a really great experience, I managed to get 3 hours sleep during the flight as the seat collapsed into a bed. The food was amazing, I had sirloin steak with wedges and peppercorn sauce – it was to die for. I managed to keep myself occupied by the numerous films the flight entertainment had to offer. I watched 'Rocketman', 'Toy Story 3' and a part of 'End Game', it kept me occupied as they are all amazing films, making the flight go a lot quicker, even though I probably slept through most of them.
Once I landed at Toronto I made my way through to customs, where I've been waiting for almost 2 hours whilst they processed everyone. I could see my bag waiting for me on the conveyer belts with the rest of the luggage that had piled up over the past 2 hours. Finally, it was turn. The officer at the booth was young, would say his mid to late twenties, wasn't too bad on the eye. I smiled at him as he greeted me.
"Hi, could I take your passport, boarding pass and visa details please." He asked. I handed over the items he asked for, whilst I waited patiently as he typed in details into the computer.
"Different hair colour?" He asked, with a smirk.
"Yeah. Brown hair is definitely more me." I replied smiling. I was born strawberry-blonde, but going through school I was picked on a lot, so since the age of 13 I have been dyeing my hair dark brown. My mum would say she prefers my old colour more, as it's natural. It reminds her of Dad, he had the same hair colour.
He smiled at me. "Well here you, everything is correct and up-to-date. Have a wonderful time in Canada, Bonnie."
"Thank you! Have a nice day." I replied, grabbing my carry on and rucksack making my way towards the conveyer belt to grab my suitcase. Lugging my bag off the belt, I noticed damage on the wheel. God damnit. Why can't these airport staff look after the possessions of travellers, now this is another case I need to replace. Sighing, I make my way towards the arrivals exit.
Airports here are so much easier to navigate, as it's just straight through one door and you've made it out into the world to re-join everyone else. As I made my way through arrivals, I look for my name on a cardboard sign – I got a private taxi as it was on offer the time I was booking flights and it's better not to stress about getting the right taxi's without being scammed. I continue my way down the crowd of taxi drivers and chauffeur's before noticing 'BONNIE HAMPTON' in big capital letters. I walked up to the man who was holding up the sign, prompting with my name. He nodded at me and smiled before taking my suitcases and directing me outside to his taxi.
The drive was just under an hour, when I arrived I just stared out in awe. The campus was beautiful, if it wasn't for the big sign that said 'Welcome to The University of Toronto', I would've never thought this was a campus for students. Driving through the town area, they had everything, bars, clubs, book stores, convenience stores and even bowling alley. Universities back in the UK could never compete with this. We finally drove into the residential area for accommodation nearer to the campus itself. I chose this accommodation as it was next to campus as well as only a 5 minute walk into town.
"Here you go Miss." My driver said, pulling to a stop. He jumped out of the car to get my stuff out of the boot. I slowly opened my door and stepped out carefully, staring up at the modern buildings that I will be staying in.
I grabbed my suitcases from the driver and thanked him, as I pushed my way past students and towards the accommodation centre. I queued up with the few students that formed a line in front of me, still amazed with where I will be living for the next 5 months. This is going to be amazing.
My subconscious mind was focused on my surroundings, whilst my body automatically moved towards the front of the line. My thoughts were interrupted by a young girl at the desk in front of me.
"Hi, I'm Sophie! I'm president here at UOT! Could I take your name and where you are from?" She said, with a giant smile on her face. She was really pretty, the naturally pretty you only see in magazine's that you automatically think isn't real.
"Hi, I'm Bonnie Hampton and from the UK." I replied.
"Hi Bonnie! Welcome to the university." She said, looking down at her paper to find my name. "You will be in the Walnut building on floor C, room 3. Here are your keys. And a student rep, Allie, who will guide you to your room." She said handing me my keys, along with welcome paperwork.
"Thank you! Have nice day." I said turning to my right and follow my rep, who's presence made me automatically feel welcome.
Allie made small talk with me until we made it to my block. We both entered the already packed foyer, everyone was queuing for a lift, I looked at Allie and we both thought the same thing. Stairs. Seeing as I was only on the third floor with only a suitcase and a backpack it would be easier to just use the stairs.
Allie held the door open to the block of stairs, so I could make my way through with the suitcase. I started my way up the stairs, it being easy the first flight but my bags were so heavy. I think Allie saw my struggle and picked up the bottom end of my suitcase, sending me a smirk. I internally cried. We continued up to the third floor, finding ourselves stood outside room 3.
My rep had my key card for the room, so she opened up the door for me, making her way in to hold the door for me again. I smiled at her as I moved myself and my stuff inside the room. The room was a medium sized studio, with two beds and a bathroom. I was in awe of this room, only because it was completely different to how it looked on the online brochure, I thought it was a communal floor. I stepped further into the room, in front of me was the small kitchen and sitting area, and to my right were the two beds that were parallel to the window. The bed on the right had already been taken, my roommate was clearly already settled in - especially with how she has decorated!
"Is there anything else you need a hand with? Unpacking, tours?" Allie asked with a smile. She was really pretty, she definitely wasn't a party animal. She looked like she was just here to study.
I shook my head. "No, everything is perfect. Thank you for your help though."
"It's no problem." She headed towards the door, and I instinctively followed her. She made her way out of my room and into the open hallway. She handed me my keycard and a bunch of leaflets. "Because there is 10 rooms on every floor, there is a bigger communal space down the hall for you and everyone else to use, your keycard should open that."
"Okay, amazing."
I saw Allie out to the staircase and waved her off, thanking her again. I made my way back into main hall to get back to my room to unpack, when I suddenly collided with something hard. I fell back, I pinched my eyes closed, bracing myself for a fall. But it never happened.
"Careful there." I heard a voice, with arms wrapped around me. I opened my eyes to see the most beautiful face with bright emerald eyes.
"I'm Karter." The god-like voice spoke. God help me.
