NATALIE

The following morning I laid in bed until the last possible minute.

I'd been awake for hours, but I just couldn't bring myself to actually get up. My mind kept replaying the ups and downs of the day before.

A day that had begun innocently enough, had ended in a place that neither one of us could have foreseen.

'We're going to be fine.' I whispered to myself, wrapped up in the comfort of my hotel duvet. 'It's better this way.'

I laid staring out onto the busy New York streets, the sky a rainy sort of grey.

Even though I kept telling myself that we were going to be okay, the current weather reflected how I truly felt.

Friendship was where I truly felt safe with David, it was what I knew best. And anything more than that felt too complicated to handle. But I couldn't seem to shake the feeling that I'd lost something last night.

I was also worried that we'd already gone too far to come back from. I suppose only time would tell.

A knock on my hotel door broke me out of my thoughts.

At first I thought it came from the door that separated my room from David's, and I felt as though my heart was going to fly out of my chest. But then I realized that it came the front entrance to the room.

Getting up, I padded my way over and opened the door a crack.

'Hey.' Megan said.

'Hey.'

I opened the door to let David Publicist through.

'The gang missed you at breakfast.' She said, looking around the hotel room.

'Yeah ...' I trailed off awkwardly. 'Wasn't feeling ... well.'

She nodded, slowly. 'So, um ...' She started. 'I have to talk to you about something. I was approached by a friend of mine this morning. He's a pap and um, he showed me some photos that he got his hands on and I just wanted to talk to you about them, because like, I don't really understand them, I don't know if you guys are like, doing a bit for the vlog or ...' Megan trailed off and got out her phone before turning it towards me.

My whole body tensed up.

On Megan's phone was a photo of David and I kissing.

It was us on the Highline yesterday, his hands wrapped around my waist, and mine around the back of his neck. It made my heart ache ever so slightly.

'Now I just want to say that I bought the rights to all these photos, so they won't be making their way into the media or anything, but I need to ask you if there is anything I should know, like is there something going on between you guys?' There was concern written all over her face.

'I ...' I struggled to find the words. 'I-I don't want to lie to you Megan, because I know you're not stupid. But I can't really talk about it. All I can say is that nothing like that will ever happen again. I promise.'

She nodded again. 'You know Nat, I consider us friends as well as colleagues, if you ever need to talk about anything, you can come to me. But only if you feel like it. No pressure.'

I couldn't help but smile at the small blonde girl. Her words did offer me some relief.

'Thanks. I'll keep that in mind.' I sighed. 'Um, also. Do you think we could just keep this between us? I don't really want David seeing these.'

I only wanted to move forward with David and these photos would only drag us right back into the slight mess we had created for ourselves.

'Yep. Whatever you want.' She said quickly. 'We never have to talk about these again.'
