NATALIE

The sun was setting over the snow-capped mountains just as the rest of our crew arrived back at the chalet.

Taylor and I had decided to come back a few hours earlier, wanting to quickly skim through some work while the house was quiet.

They all ambled through the door, one after the other, shrugging their jackets off and talking a million miles a minute.

'It's going be so good.' Todd boomed as he ran past as, practically sprinting up the stairs.

'You guys in?' Erin questioned as she walked up to the dining room table we were sat at.

'In for what?' I asked.

'We're going to do a bar crawl tonight, through the village.' Carly answered from beside Erin.

A streak of excitement ran through me. I looked over at Taylor, who was already looking back at me, her eyes slightly pleading.

'Can we please?' She asked.

I laughed. 'Yeah of course, we've done enough work for today.'

'Yes!' She exclaimed, bouncing up from her seat. 'I'm going to go get ready.'

David was the very last person to walk through the door, shutting it behind him.

'Hey!' I said, as he walked passed the entry to the dining room.

He looked up from where he was glued to his phone and smiled as his eyes landed on me.

'Hey.' He said back.

And for what felt like the hundredth time that day, a surge of relief ran through me.

We'd been on the chairlift together and he'd point something out to me. Relief. He'd grab me a water at lunch without even asking. Relief. He'd make a point of waiting for me at the bottom of each ski run. Relief.

I think a part of me thought that there'd be a distance or a coldness to our interactions for a while.

At least that's what I'd prepared myself for anyway.

The entire drive up here had been me and my brain. I'd thought about the exact moment when I would tell David about Fletcher and me. Over and over again.

I'd been absolutely terrified.

Frankly, I'd been terrified since the moment Fletcher asked me to be his girlfriend. The first thing that had ran through my mind was David and how this would affect him.

But so far it hadn't seemed too affect him at all. He'd taken it completely in stride. And there was an immense amount of relief tied up in that. But there was also this small of sum of questioning that kept reprising itself with the relief.

Why was he so okay with this?

I was definitely less okay, and I was the one who was now in a relationship.

'So, are you coming out with us?' He asked, leaning on the back of the chair next to mine. I couldn't help but notice his proximity. I also couldn't help but notice that it still made my heart flutter ever so slightly.

'Uh, yeah.' I said quickly, closing my laptop and getting up, trying to put a bit of space between us. 'Taylor and I got through all the work I missed while I was away, so I'm in the clear.'

'Sweet.' He said, still smiling that dumbass smile that made me go a little bit crazy.

'Well, I better go get ready.' I said, annoyed at myself for letting him get to me.
