Chapter 6
I froze the trail had all but disappear and here I was back staring at my fleabag motel. I confess I didn't understand what game the two of us were playing here, actually who was I kidding he was the only one who was playing I was just following. What game was he playing here? Before I would have said that he was trying to help, that he telling me to go home and wait for Carl but now I didn't know not for certain not anymore. And anyway my usual response to Derek's request was generally to do the complete opposite of what he tried to get me to do. So where did that leave me right now? In the end after a few moments of dithering my heart won out and I decided to trust that he was trying to protect me. So possibly for the first time I decided to do as he told me and I followed Derek's lead and walked to my fleapit motel room.
I halted at the door and (I hope I subtly gave it an experimental sniff, nothing. Well as least nobody I recognised and so nothing to worry about. I don't know if that made me relieved or disappointed but I stamped down on whatever emotion it was and unlocked the door disappearing inside to the room that was pitch black my nose instantly wrinkling in distaste as the mouldy scent of the room hit me. I softly closed the door behind me reluctant to be cut off from the fresh-ish air outside. I stumbled across the few steps my hand wandering out in search of the light switch. As the overhead bulb fuzzed into light and the room was illuminated I heard my breath catch laying there in the centre of my bed was a single long stem blood red rose. My brain went frantic I tried to force it to calm to think logically but it was pointless as this rose had done the one thing it had intended to it had scared me witless. Did I stay here I clearly wasn't safe the rogues did this with the rose almost a sort of sign that they knew where I was and I ignored it which let's face it hadn't ended well. But I was too scared and before I could regain any semblance of higher mental functioning my body was grabbed and spun around pressed face first hard into the thin plaster wall, pinned in place by a big hard body. I couldn't help but smile I knew that body, I knew the sound of his breathing, his scent, the feel of his hands.
"Hey Derek." I said gently making an instant decision not to resist him. He growled as if annoyed but not altogether surprised that I had figured out it was him.
"What are you doing here Jessica?" he breathed into my ear,
"Having an illicit affair with Carl." I said in a deadpan voice, "what the hell do you think I'm doing here you git"
"You convinced my little brother to go rogue." Derek hissed his voice pure ice, as he ground me into the wall just a little,
"Actually I was tied to a chair, he was the one who came and got me after he sedated half the pack so we could escape and it was most definitely all his idea." I said defensively.
"Well Baby that's not what Daddy thinks."
"And how the hell would you know that?" I snapped he laughed roughly still the noise sounded more like a cough like it always had.
"Sorry baby but I'm afraid I'm not allowed to give away all my trade secrets to you anymore."
"Fine I don't really care about that anyway."
"So again why are you even here?" Derek hissed grabbing a clump of my hair savagely with his free hand. despite the Roughness of the action I couldn't help closing my eyes pushing my head back into his hand savouring in just being touched by him." this is not a game Jess if they figure out you are here following us. Do you think Bethany will just let you go? She maybe your fucking sister but she is nothing like you, nothing! She will spare nothing to find you and kill you, and she will take great pleasure in it."
"And would that stop you?" I asked in a voice that was shockingly pathetically weak,
"Stop it." Derek growled and twisted me round roughly to face him. Shoving my back hard into the wall I winced but didn't allow a sound to escape me. "What will it take for you to believe that I am gone?" He snarled his beautiful face inches from me, his eyes pure burning gold that was locked onto me with an unconcealed longing.
