nini slipped out of her bed and quietly put on her white slip on vans. she turned on her lockscreen, it was 20 till 2. she was wearing black leggings and a grey spaghetti strap tank top. she grabbed a maroon hoodie off of her desk and slipped it on. she took the note from her side table and placed it carefully in the big front pocket.

nini slid open her bedroom window as quietly as possible, making sure not to lock the switch so she could get back in. there was a tree extending outside of ninis window that she had climbed her whole life. in the summers growing up, her window would be open all day long, and her and ricky used to tree to get in and out of the house. ricky even broke his arm once on it!

a cold wind brought nini back out of her warm, happy thoughts, to her current position in the cold, dark bedroom window. she stepped out onto the tree and made her way down with making as little noise as possible. nini hadn't really ever snuck out. just late night walks along the river that was in the small woods behind their street. ricky usually accompanied her on these walks.

she made her way across the backyard. her moms' room was on the other side of the house, so it didn't have a window facing the back yard. she made her way through until she got to the white picket gate. it creeks when it opens, so she threw one leg over, then another. she let out a small grunt when she hit the ground. she started making her way to the woods behind her house. after about a minute or two of walking, she found herself at the river. down a couple yards was the dream bridge.

the dream bridge was just an old, small arch bridge across the river. it had wood panels and sturdy wooden designed bars as railing. it was obviously from a very long time ago, as the water took of all the paint. when her and ricky were in elementary, they found it one day while exploring. they played pretend and it had been many things over the years. that's why they called it the dream bridge. because it could be anything they wanted.

nini has never had a bad memory here. it's her safe place. she walked onto it, purposely missing the third step from her side, as it is the weakest, and makes a loud squeak. rickys path through the woods took him to the other side of the bridge, so she knew that he would be coming from that direction.

she slipped her hands into her pocket and could feel the letter. a part of her wanted to scream and rip it into a million pieces and throw it into the river. but another part of her wanted to hold it close, and read it a hundred times over. she was so confused. she was angry that he thinks he gets to be a father now, she is happy because he is trying to make an effort to be in her life, she is sad because she doesn't want to hurt her moms, but more than anything, she is just confused. and she needs someone who won't hate her for the decision she makes. that's why she needs ricky.

nini heard small noises coming from the other side of her. she squinted in the dark and saw rickys silhouette walking quite quickly towards her. this is what she needed right now, she needed ricky. he slowed his pace as he got to the dream bridge. he stood beside her and they both looked off into the water.

"hi." he said, calmly.
